I plan to BC in about 2 months. Later this month I will make 12 months transitioning. I want to get an idea of products I should buy and maybe start now for budgeting reasons.

I am looking for a good shampoo and condtioner.
so far I've heard Eluence Moisture benefits line and Aubrey Honeysuckle.
Any other suggestions, or input on these two. I don't like that they are not easy to find or you have to buy online.

Also a deep conditioner/leave in (I think I like creamy conditioners)
I have started using the nexus conditioner on my relaxed and transitioning hair. Not sure if I should change once 100% natural. I need something reasonable priced but works.
Have anyone tried that conditioner/detangler from www.growafrohairlong.com

then i am thinking curling products and styling gels.
I am thinking
KCCC
Is Miss Jessies worth the money.

Lastly I've heard about Karen body beautiful and Carol's daughter which line do you like more for the hair milks, holding creams.

I have heard good thing about CD Marguerite's Magic and Mimosa hair honey.
the hair milk gets mixed reviews

I have heard only good things about KBB entire line but only from a handful of ppl.

I am sorry this is so long pls share your 2 cents.

Hey OP, this is a good thread as I need to ask the same questions for my sister who big chopped!

I also wanted to know from the naturals if any of the other products with lines for curly heads eg Tigi bedhead or Garnier work well on natural heads ie do those gels for curl definition work on 4a/4b hair as well??

(OP - sorry to sneak in my question like that)

I would suggest you start off with a few products because you may find your hair may not like them.

Everything we suggest is just that a suggestion based on how well it does for our own hair.

Congrats on the big chop coming up and angenior for your sister.

Pick out a shampoo if that is what you prefer (I am strictly a cowash girl and am 4bz hair)

A good conditioner leave in and one for deep conditioning.

Only pick one of the products for curl difinition. I have tried both KCC and Jessies and neither gave me curl definition but others have had success. Again, what works for one person may or may not work for another.

I have not tried the bedhead products. I have tried ganier but not really pleased with the conditioner which is the only thing I purchased.

As for a leave in moisture product there are lots of them. There is a thread started asking folks about good moisturizers.

Pick up the small or medium sizes first and if they work then purchase more.

One of the worst things in the world to me is getting a product and you find it does not work for you. Then you have to find a way to either use it up with other products or give it away.

Have a healthy happy hair journey.

then i am thinking curling products and styling gels.
I am thinking
KCCC ---- i use once, gave away made hair to hard....
Is Miss Jessies worth the money(not worth it)

Lastly I've heard about Karen body beautiful ( good but i rather use ors Olive Oil)
Carol's daughter (to me it not worh the price... seem like product just sit on top of hair)

@mscocoface...Thanks for your input.
I hear a lot about co-wash, but said i will start with an organic shampoo first.
I know I should Keep it simple, so i am looking for suggestions as to what to try first and hopefully i'll get lucky. i am trying to be a reformed PJ and don't want to buy and try a whole lot of products. I mentioned the key items I know need and the lines I've heard a lot about. But overall I will just pick 1 for each item. Shampoo, Conditioner, a leave in Cond/detangler, a curl defining cream, a light holding cream, and a daily moisturizer. that is 6 items.
I know all hair is different I am just looking for the ones that stand out with more co signs than negative reviews.

thanks so much for your reply. What is your hair type, if you don't mind me asking.

Hi, I'm not fully natural yet but I'm almost 21 months into my transition. Here are my recommendations. The lines I have found to be the best are Giovanni, Elucence and Joico. I'm a 4a

Moisturizing Shampoo- Elucence MB shampoo
or
Giovanni 50/50 shampoo
Leave in- Elucence MB conditioner
Deep Conitioner- Joico Moisture Recovery Balm
Cowash- Giovanni 50/50
Moisturizer- KBB hair milk

I'm a cheapie. I usually use the V05 shampoo for daily washing in the summer time (I can't get with co washing too much because I love the lather).
For conditioner, I use Pantene Beautiful Lengths (ladies here hate Pantene for some reason, I don't get it). I don't really need to add product after that.

I co-sign with what mscocoface said. Congrats on your BC! You really will have to play around and try diff things till you finalize what works for you. Here are the basics you may want/need:

* a moisturizing cleanser-rather it be a shampoo or conditioner (since many co-wash). I use a castile soap mix to cleanse my hair and it never strips my hair of its natural oils.

* conditioner- it's a plus if it doubles as a detangler and conditioning. I used to just mix trader joes tea tree tingle conditioner with whipped shea butter and it gave my hair incredible slip for detangling and was very conditioning. Now I just use water, aloe vera gel, honey and oils. Detangles and conditions my hair like I never woulda believed.

* leave in- depending on your conditioner, you can use the same one you used for detangling/conditioning as a leave in or your daily moisturizer can work as one. I just use water and oil/butter/daily moisturizer

* moisturizer- I make my own mist (water, glycerin, and jojoba oil) for when I wear twists. I like KBB Hair Milk (I used to use it as a leave in w great results too) and Afroveda Cocolatte Moisture Mask as well when I'm wearing styles like braid outs, flat twist outs, and curly fros

* a hair gel- i like aloe vera gel and Afroveda's pur whipped hair gelly

KBB products are fabulous! They worked really great with my hair. Afroveda producs are good too and my hair loves them.

Thanks you are very helpful. I've seen you b4 also. Maybe your fotiki or somewhere else online. I can't forget your eyes or your elaborate earrings.

For co-wash I use V05 or Pantene Curls line
Styling/Gel- I was using KCCC but it made my hair too hard so I am using EcoStyler w/OO (got it from Sallys) Works great and no hard hair, plus its only 4.00 for a big jar.
Moisturizer-I use Wave Noveau finishing lotion. Keeps my hair soft and works really well under the EcoStyler.

Wow 21 months. How do you do it? I originally thought I would go 2yrs but realized all I would do is have it covered up in wigs or weave so i figured i can do that now even if I cut all the perm out.
So how do you style your hair ?

Oh yeah I have heard ppl mention Giovanni 50/50 also. I will look into the ingredients and if you can get it from most BSS as oppose to online. I will look into Joico also.

I BC over a month ago and Hairveda products are rocking my world. I was dealing with dryness in the morning time and having trouble retaining mositure.

The products I think that helped me the most were:

Hairveda Shikakai Swirl Shampoo Bar
Hairveda Herbal Green Tea Butter
Hairveda Whipped Cream and
Hairveda CoCasta Shikakai Oil ****

The oil is really helping seal in all my moisture. I love love love it!!

oh yeah I've heard good things about the ecostyler gel also.

is this an online product or can you purchase from a regular BSS (not sallys)

^^^Hairveda is online only.

Giovanni can be found in a lot of drug stores, like Walgreens, and I've seen it at Safeway, Vitamin Shoppe, and Whole Foods as well.

I still use the original formula Creme of Nature shampoo (new formula is awful to me). My hair doesn't like cowashing very much. I've also heard very good things about Elasta QP's Cream Conditioning Shampoo.

I have protein and moisture based deep conditioners. For simplicity I like Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose and White Camelia for moisture, and GPB for a mild protein. They're all very thick, with Honeysuckle Rose being the thickest. My favorite conditioners right now though are Hairveda SitriNillah and Shescentit Banana Brulee.

I am really falling in love with KBB Hair Milk as a leave-in, and with Qhemet's Amla Olive Heavy Cream as a moisturizer (both online purchases, though Qhemet does have some retail locations available).

I use Afroveda's oils and butters to seal and twist, with great success.

Thanks for the info. Have you used afroveda curly custard just as a wash and go type agent, as something to define your curls.

I would shy away from Aubrey Organics Honeysuckle Rose SHAMPOO! Very stripping....the conditioner is great.

I'm a big fan of Qhemet's line for moisturizing products....I'm in love with the honey and olive oil hydrating balm.

Shampoos have been very difficult especially natural ones. WEN and Hair One are not my favorite because of the glycerin content which dries my hair.

I've had luck with Aveda's, Giovanni, and Organixs Shampoos.

Conditioners: AO White Camelia (which I think is better than honeysuckle rose) and the 50/50 protein moisturizer conditioner.

ITA w/ everyone who said that you need to play around and see what works best for your hair.

The KBB line is good. I'd recommend the deep conditioner, hair oil, and Luscious Locks Hair Mask.

AO GPB is also a good deep conditioner.

I noticed that you mentioned CD Mimosa Hair Honey. That product is so not worth the money. It is the grease version of hair perfume. It doesn't tame frizz at all, and it adds a light sheen (not the shine that it says that it provides on the bottle).

It's official: I'm truly done with the Carol's Daughter line.

Congratulations!

Of course you know what works for one may not work for another.

After my initial chop (4 years ago) KCC worked wonders for my hair. I tried it last month and returned it - it did nothing for me.

Never liked anything from the Miss Jessies line even though I tried a few products twice to make sure.

The best conditioner and shampoo for my hair (at least right now anyway) is the Trader Joes brand Nourish and Spa. I am completely satisfied with their $4 shampoo and condish - the condish has major slip.

When I want a really good DC I use the KBB hair masque and have been pleased with hers.

I have been pleased with the Qhemet line when I wore my hair in two-strands and other "natural styles". Now I am either a wash and go with KBB hair milk and Jane Carters leave in, or a straight natural with TJ shampoo and condish (under the steamer of course), FHI flat iron, Design Essentials silk and patience.
