Can I just say that msa answers so many questions around here, and she doesn't seem to mind answering the same questions over and over, and searching the boards for people...if she has questions for once, why are people getting impatient?
sheesh

anyway I don't have an answer for the clarifying then moisturizing shampoo afterwards question. :drunk:

But I did read something on this board about trying to use a clarifying shampoo in your scalp only and not the length of your hair and then using one of those moisturizing shampoos more on the length of your hair than on your scalp, so your scalp won't build up and so that you could use the shampoo to detangle.

A huge thank you sharifeh!

This thread is funny to me.
I am a habitual offender of several of these things. lol.
I clarify sometimes and then wash with a moisturizing shampoo right after.
I use more than one deep conditioner at a time.
I use more than one leave in at a time and then seal.

I'm not giving explanations for it. I just "do me," and don't worry about the rest!

I read these posts and I watch you tube and it amazes me how some of you still have hair on your heads. You put so many things on your hair at one time and they all do different things. Like leave ins. You are not supposed to go and put every leave in that you have in your house in your hair at one time. For some of you that would be about 9 or 10 leave ins. You know when people say, simple is best. Less is more. Things like that? It is because it is true! It is like when 2 people are trying to get through the same door. It does not happen. You have to let one person go through then let the other person. See what I am trying to say? Your hair is one person and the products that you put in your hair is the other. Your hair is trying to get through and grow out but all the 50 million products that you put on your scalp won't let it go through. So your hair stays at one length all the time. Simplify your routine! Find out what products your hair likes and stick with them. You only need one or two shampoos or one or two conditioners. You only need 1 or 2 leave ins or 1 or 2 oils. Not 10!

This is just my professional oppinion.

Please provide a link to your fotki or other photo site. U are fairly new to LHCF. There is a method to the madness. I seen plenty of product junkie with hair pass their bra so I don't question the madness.

To your defense and the others that use several conditioners at one time, who says something is wrong with that? For instance, you may have dry hair, and elasticity issues. So mixing a bit of a reconstructor, with some moisturizing conditioner would be fine.

They make several types of conditioners, and your hair may have more than ONE problem. I have seen many stylists (that actually care about the health of your hair) assess the damage, and then use conditioners to correct whatever issues you may have at the time. :yep:

And for those using dandruff shampoos, this technique can be helpful as well. :yep:

OP... I agree 100% with you. Sometimes I think people go way overboard with the number of products they apply to their hair and the number of treatments they do in one day like protein treatments and DCs. I've even noticed that even some "simple" regimens have about a million products in them. But, the thing is that there is so much information on the hair forums about products and techniques that I guess people just want to try everything at the same time. The truth is less is more. On the other hand, there are a few PJs with long thick hair though.

I do whatever works but I have found that for my hair the more products I use the worse my results are. even when I dont have buildup issues.

Yeah girl. I have all kinds of issues with my hair right now, dry in some areas, moisturized in others...dealing with over 9 months of NG and still have my relaxed texture. I'm all over the place. LOL.

ITA with the bolded, I follow an Ayurvedic reggie, I use several powders and oils. Some of which do the same things, some are very different. Some of the powders are for cleansing, some are for moisture and strength. I have quite a few (actually more than ten:grin:) oils. The reason? It's basically a combo of trying to weed out the ones I don't care to much for vs the ones I love, lol and odor. I have oils that work wonderful for giving the hair strength, moisture, shine, and even seem to help with the growth, but they have a less than pleasant odor that no EO can mask. I still want the benefits of theses oils so I use them to prepoo before cowashes, at night and on off days. I save the nicer smelling ones for work and everyday maintenance. I also use a poo bar. Wonder why if I wash with the powders? It's called simplicity and options, some days I'm really tired and don't feel like mixing, but I still want clean hair. I wont give up the powder to the bar because it gives a (different) feeling that I equally love. I also use Castor oil to help lay down NG and seal ends. After a certain point in my stretch the thinner oils alone don't cut it.:nono: As far as conds. and cowashing, I have to admit I've tried quite a few, but once again I consider it research in finding my staples. I love AM for moisture, but sometimes I may want a little more slip so I mix in Suave Humectant. Wallah! instant slip. On the flip side Suave helps in the ease of rinsing out powders, but depending on which ones I've used I need to up my moisture so I mix 2 or more. With all the cowashing, which by the way has help my hair thrive. I don't want mushy hair, sooooo I have to use my protein conds. I'm sorry for the long post, but you see what I'm getting at. It's a method to my madness:drunk: As I think may be the case with most of the members. I may use several products, but my daily style is a bun, so I do consider my reggie simple. Will I eventually drop off some products in the future? Maybe a few of the oils, but that's it. My hair is currently loving what I'm doing. And I don't see myself changing up any time soon.
Great post and I've learn something too...thank you!

:lachen:

I love LHCF - in the same thread that someone started solely to tell folks they are putting too much in their hair, folks are figuring out how to put more stuff on their hair.

:lachen: We rock.
:lachen::lachen::lachen: you sure are right about that

I'm an offender and it works for me. I use more than 1 DC at a time and I also use a creamy leave-in followed by a spray leave-in. I also use 2 cons in the shower daily.

Now if this ever was a problem I would stop, but it hasn't been. Now me using dyes on top of each other is another story.

Personally, I think the members who do an excessive amount (this is quite relative though, imo) to their hair are the exceptions and not the rule here. For the most part, I think people either keep it simple or use a moderate amount of products.

With that said, if someone does have a long regimen/many products, it's quite possible they reached that stage by figuring out what worked for them long ago if their hair is healthy etc. Now if it's chewed up then that's another story. Anyway, not everyone can get away with that ultra-low fuss regimen even if they really want to.

I agree. And to the OP, I understand your reasoning. I watch a lot of you tubes too.

I have come to realize that Keeping it simple usually comes with time. often newer members or those who are just new to focusing on haircare will get overwhelmed from reading all the information that is available. This often causes them to overdo it with product purchases. Then once you have all these gabillion products...of course you get these urges to use them.

I like it when I see someone come back and report that they have eliminated something or figured out when a product doesn't work for their hair.

I think for many the path to keeping it simple (as you're wisely advising) often begins with a whole heap of supplies and not even really knowing where to start and what to stick with. Then begins the Trial and Error / process of elimination.

Also seasons, health and wellness and changes in our lives affect what's going on with our strands, kinks, curls naps or crowning glory.

But sometimes it's just the pretty packaging calling out to us...
Buy me...Buy me...you know you want to.:yep:

I used the Home Health brand, from Whole Foods. If you try it, don't skimp on the castor oil and don't skip the detangling. I also wasn't using conditioner during this time but I think conditioning at least once a week would help.

Thats the brand I use. I detangle with castor oil. I add aloe vera gel and olive oil to it at and it gets the job done for me.

Keepin it simple def works for me and I do encourage it but for some a more complex routine works for them.

Ummmm ok...I typically like to keep it simple some may say lazy with my hair. I don't cowash daily, my hair starts to smell weird when I do. I think a simple routine is best but I find when I was relaxed I used more products but I also had more steps to my styling routine, for instance if I was rollersetting, I would use a creamy leave in and setting lotion when I was roller setting and when I combed my hair down I would put a little oil on my scalp and polisher on my hair. If I flat ironed/blowed dried it would require more steps as well.

ETA: I just have to write this I can't keep it in, but using y'all can be divisive because I'm wondering who the y'all is? Because most members I notice have very simple routines. I'm wondering if this thread was started to kick off drama or is drama from another board, something? if not my deepest apologies.[/quote]

AMEN....

Thats what I want to know. Who is YALL?
