Peeing in my shower
Hey all! I decided to transition right around the time that I found this board. I've been growing my hair out from a very short cut and am just tired of the relaxer routine. When I first joined I had a sew in weave, I kept that in for 7 weeks. My wonderful hubby (bless him) took it out for me last night, so this morning I washed, protein treated, and conditioned. This will be my first time trying a braid out and I'm a little scared that it will look like crap tomorrow and I'll have to call in sick :lachen::lachen:

Anywhoo, here is my newgrowth

Girl... what were you doing with a relaxer?!:naughty: Your texture looks yummy!:lick:

ETA: Make sure you post the results of the braid-out good or bad. I'm still learning.... every attempt comes out looking a H.A.M. :spinning:

Looks pretty. Keep a head band or short scarf ready if you do not like the look in the morning. A band/scarf will keep the focus up front and you can wear the back finger combed.

Uhhhhhhhhh ok?

Anyways umm your hair looks nice. Didn't you say you were growing out a short cut? Must not have been too short since you can get your hair in braids. From my experience next time you should try to put a lil more tension on the roots.

Thanks! LOL, I had a relaxer because I BEGGED my mom to let me get one when I was fourteen. You know the old "but everybody else has one" :wallbash:. I'll be sure to post the results, good or bad. (praying for good)

Thanks for the compliments everyone.
Geminigirl, make it tighter at the roots? Do you think cornrows would be better?

I've been growing out the cut for about 10 months, there's a pic in my profile album if anyone wants to check it out.

I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. Your hair already has a nice sheen! And what a sweet hubby you have! :-)

Good luck with your transition!!!

If you start your braid closer to the scalp it will help it be more defined and less frizzie. The further from the scalp the more 'voluminous' it will be but it won't have definition from root to tip. Hope this helps. HHG!!!

Your texture is FABULOUS!! I know these are wet pics but it looks like its shiny and healthy so it will probably come out ok in the AM. I don't know anything else to add because I am terrible at braid outs but you are looking good!

gorgeous "before" pics... Waiting for the "afters" Your texture is so pretty. Happy transitioning, I'm right there with you.

I was going to say the same thing, why on earth are you relaxing? :)
I had a dominican friend with nice curly hair and she would relax to loosen up the curl a bit so I guess it can happen,

very nice texture and hair.

Yes That's the way I used to do my hair while relaxed. the cornrows really help to get the roots tight and smooth.

Your new growth is coming in nicely :-) When was your last relaxer? July, as well?

Cornrows are much better for me for braidouts. My left siggy pic is a twistout from flat twists and the right one is a braidout from cornrows.

How did it come out OP?

Thanks for checking back. I just took pics because I was running a little late this morning and got home late tonight. Here they are:

All in all not too bad for the first one, but definitely not uniform :lachen:. I will definitely be taking Gemini's advice and trying cornrows next time, and maybe some rollers on the ends. I can't wait to try a twistout too. Thanks for the compliments and encouragement ladies, it is greatly appreciated!

Yes, I had a touch up in July when I had the sew in done. The touch up was only in the front though, just for the hair that would be out. Your styles came out good, I especially love the flat twistout, very nice .
