What can be done to remedy this situation. Is cutting the ONLY way to go?

I washed my hair this morning and when I looked at the back of my hair......... *smh*

I combed the hair all back.... right and left sides about 2.5" from APL, the middle is NL.

HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm thinking of braiding since I've upped my workout routine to daily..... would the braids cause further damage?

What were you doing before? Were you bunning tightly? I believe once we find the problem --(the cause of) we can find the solution... When my crown area broke of I nursed it back to health with more moisture because that area was being neglected. We are here to help. :)

no I don't bun tightly... I started having issues when my nape broke off. It's growing back but it's just deressing see my hair like that.

It doesn't seem damaged now. Different areas just grow faster than others sometimes. The braids sound like a good idea because your mind won't be on it and it'll be easier for you to workout without worrying about your hair as much.

For years, the left side of my hair grew fastest and the middle grew slowest. Now, the right side grows fastest. Now I'm just waiting for it to be the middle's turn
I never wear my hair down so it doesn't bother me for now.

I'm sorry about that Val... how have you been with Deep Conditioning? I feel if you get braids it may give your hair a break from daily manipulation--- just make sure they are not installed to tightly. I know more ladies will give their advice.

You really got to up the DC'ing and moisturising ofthat particular area. I've got the same "W" thing going on too. :nono:

I would do protective styles for a while to give that middle part time to catch up to the sides.

ITA.

Hang in there Val, you have made great progress. I would be cautious about braids if your nape area is still weak, I think that would be too much stress. I know you've had success with weaves in the past. If I were you that's what I'd do until the back starts to even out.

I recently finished reading Chicoro's book and she talked about being patient, not cutting, and letting the rest of the hair catch up. But she also said that if there is too much of a difference between the lengths you may need to cut. She said don't let the longest section get more than 2-4 inches longer than the shortest because that can make you very frustrated.

I'm sorry you are going through this. This hair-growing business is supposed to be fun but sometimes it can be stressful.
