1) do you ever have a problem with over conditioning your hair? my mom always rants about i'm going to mess my hair up and over condition it! we have similar hair (very similar) so i keep her advice in the back of my mind...

2)Not an option, but when i do clarify, i vow to dilute it with all my heart!

3) all the others seem like great idea, minus the pontail only b/c my hair wont get in onw without the help of heat and i'm challenging myself to no heat for like a year..

but it's glad to know that this problem may not be permanent...

I'm curious about why you can't stop shampooing...if you can't let it go I hope you are at least using a non sulfate poo. When I have to poo I still mix it with conditioner.

Because my hair was always so dry I knew that it would be hard to overcondition it. Has your Mom actually experienced this problem? You could easily tell if your hair was getting too much moisture and correct it before it became an issue. If it gets overconditioned easily than dry hair can't be your problem.

I prevent overmoisturization and keep my hair balanced by using products that have enough protein to help me keep my strength yet are moisturizing like the yogurt dc. Life is much easier this way.

My hair has to be wet or soaked with conditioner to get in a ponytail but I wear it up most of the time so it is already in position for a pony. Sleeping with loose hair cause my crown to become damaged.

Same issue my niece is having. her hair is damaged and it is extremely porous. so it soaks up the moisturizer and is still dry. Because the hair is damaged and porous, it cannot properly hold moisture. The balance of protein is off. so add protein to your hair diet...also ACV is good. Find other LCHFers that have hair similiar to yours, and try the same protein products that work for them. Mines are Aveda Damage Remedy, giovanni 50/50, and Vatika oil... but maybe try something hardcore.

:yep::yep:. When your hair isn't responding to moisture it probably needs some protein to help you hold moisture in. But I think that natural protein like eggs and yogurt are and easy way to test if you need protein without overdoing it. If your hair responds well you can decide to do a hardcore protein treatment if necessary.

okay so do you just implement mild and light protein in between the hard core treatments, or do you just use moisturizing DC's?

I used mild proteins every other week in between like Motions CPR and Aphogee 2 minute as a pre-poo and I deep conditioned with moisture right after. My hair loved it.

My problem came when I started using protein to co-wash, deep condition, and as a leave in.:nono: I was foolish.

^vkb247- I dont see myself parting with poo because when i put my hair in ponys and what ever style i may be doing, i use a lot of gel and condish and products in general. so what i do is clarify on the first wash and do a moisture rich poo for the second one. BUT what i think is the problem is that i need to dilute my aphogee poo b/c it is a hardcore clarifier!

And there is no telling what her hair has experienced, she just doesnt believe or understand how dry my hair really is. especially in the middle of my head where it is extremely kinky and like no other texture on my whole head lol (its terrible) so i still do my own thing with the condish and DC..I keep in mind what she is saying only b/c we have similar textures..

and to kind of fix my protein/moisture balance issues, i'm pre-pooing with protein and dc'ing with moisture. however, i think i may throw in some hard core protein in the miz to supplement that just because all the products i use on my hair primarily are moisturizing.

^^Cburney- you kind of just confirmed what i was originally thinking lol that the hard core treatment isn't enough alone, and that you do need to implement light-mild protein bi-weekly. knowing me, i would slap the aphogee on my hair and keep it moving until another 6 weeks rolls around!

But all of these respnses got me thinking about yet another tweak in my regimen..

The ladies gave you good advices. Clarify, then try protein and porosity control. It could be that your hair is lacking protein or very porous.

Well I know I had to, but a lot of people don't really use the hardcore stuff at all and their hair is thriving. I guess it takes time to figure out what works.

I did see a lot of progress after adding the hardcore to my reggie.

I also use a lot of gel, conditioner, and product and don't have a problem not using shampoo. When I get in the shower I rinse for about 3 minutes or however long it takes until I can't feel the product anymore and then I cowash and detangle. If I use a product with cones that I might mix some conditioner with soap (I use a shea butter based bar with no sulfates and cleansers far down on the list) or baking soda and use this to get the products out. Shampoo strips all of the moisture out of my hair no matter what I do so I really think this step makes a difference. You might decide it doesn't work for you but I hope you will consider trying it to see if it helps your problem. You can also try putting coconut or olive oil in your hair before pooing to lessen the dryness.

BTW: I also have really kinky hair at my crown that requires extra moisture and extra TLC so it doesn't break. Henna helps make this hair stronger and smoother.

Not trying to be a pain its just that sometimes you will be surprised what will work if you give it a chance.

oh no doubt! i just bought some shampoo bars for chagrin valley if that counts, and i just started using them..so thats one step that i have taken..and i have been debating the henna thing for awhile, but i would definately be using indigo as well...

for the oil part, like a rinse with the oil or a scalp massage in the shower? b/c i might try that b/c i have a huge jar of coconut oil just itching to be used...
