I didn't, but i think the transition would have been soooo much easier if I would have. I just recently bkt'd after one year of transitioning and about 6-8 months after the bc. I probably could have skipped the bc and retained length had I opted to BKT. The money spent on keeping my hair in braids, learning how to deal with the natural texture--- all of that would have been a lot simpler for me. But oh well- all's well that ends well.
I think it could be a wonderful transition tool if employed properly.

I love reading the BKT threads. This is exactly what I plan to do to make the transition easier. I'm in between BSL and MBL, so when I reach MBL then I'll do it.

I am thinking about getting a BKT (Sofliss) but I would like to know if this treatment will work on short hair. My hair is longer on top and short in the nape area. Do you know if this is an option for my hair? Thanks

I am 12 weeks post and have been considering going natural since the begininging of this year. I just ordered the OK Keratin Tx.(hopefully it arrives this week) I am hoping that if this is successful I will definitely transition from texlaxed to natural.

**I** wouldn't recommend it I did it to my hair while transitioning a couple of years ago and it broke my hair off. All the broken hairs were different lengths. I thought it was the result of not perming so I ended up perming again. I could've just said no to the bkt & transition in weaves. Lesson learned

GrowGrl09 I transitioned out of my relaxer using Qod max original keratin (I now use Elixir keratin). I started my transition around the end of 2009 at bsl and I had so much relaxer damage that my hair was a w shape in the back. In Jan 2011 I took the plunge and had my hair cut to just about apl. I then continued my Qod max treatments every 2 to 3 months and trimmed off relaxed ends little by little. I am mbl now and growing to Wsl relaxer free. My hair is the strongest and the longest it has ever been.. Good luck to u!

Napp thank you so much! Qod max original keratin is more expensive and I found Elixir keratin to perform slightly better but at a lower cost. They both have approx under 2% formaldehyde from my understanding.
By the way, I have added a pic of my hair from Jan 2011 when I chopped off the damaged relaxed ends and started somewhat fresh. Bkting all the way

Qod and Elixir are very similar. When I apply Qod my hair feels more coated vs elixir my hair feels slightly lighter . They both give me great shine and without them I think my retention would have been much less during my transition. Trust me I tried several times to transition and failed until I found bkt.
The curly pic above shows a looser texture than normal but I can't recall if I had elixir or Qod in that pic. However, they both give me the same curly results as I apply them only using 410 heat with 2 to 3 passes max and I rinse it out the same day instead of waiting the 2 to 3 days they suggest.

Where do you buy Elixir and do you get it applied by a professional or can I do this at home. I don't have a stylist that I trust, but I've been thinking about BKT for months.

Currently, I buy it from eBay and apply it myself and its super easy... Just tedious

Hi blessed7777, thanks for the info you provided before. When you say you rinse it out the same day, how long after the flat iron process do you rinse it out? When you rinse it, do you just run water through your hair or do you wash it with shampoo?

After I flat iron the treatment in I try to let it stay in for 4 to 6 hrs at the most before shampooing it out. If I want less curl pattern I wait until the next day but that is the max.

I went to the salon and got the "Chocolate" BKT. OMG, it was painful and I"m not even sensitive.
The fumes are NO joke.First off, it is a high end “white” salon. So they are not familiar w/ black hair. OMG, I have a lot of hair so I had 3 people working on me AT THE SAME TIME
pulling, tugging, flat ironing etc. It took a total of 3 hours from wash to finish.I can see some breakage from the flat iron which I’m not happy about. She told me not to wash it for a week so I don’t know yet how it’ll be after I wash it etc, that will be the real test because my last texturizer was in Feb. I’m headed to the beach on Thurs. and when I get back I”ll wash it and let you guys know the pros and cons. I paid A LOT of money, it is VERY expensive ($500) . So the real verdict is going to be after I get my hair washed and rolled next week to see if it is as manageable and healthy. We shall see. See pic below.
BTW, you are not supposed to wash this out for at least 3 days. I"m on day 3 but the smell/fumes are so strong that its making me fill yucky.

What brand did they use on you? I hope your hair turns out OK. It sounds like they used an older formula on you.
I hope it comes out OK. Make sure you do a nice DC right after.
Napp she said the "Chocolate". I'm not sure what that is or if it is the older formula. I will wash it this weekend and let you guys know. Have you done it before?

"Chocolate" doesn't mean anything LOL depending on the brand it could just be the scent/"flavor" or it indicates how strong the bkt is. when i say older formula i mean formulas that are formaldehyde/aldehyde based. did she tell you what the percentage was?
I have had a chocolate scented bkt before but really if you look up chocolate keratin treatment you will find hundreds of different brands. It also wasn't that stinky.

im just wondering if I use QOD max organique on my 3cish hair how much do you think it will loosen it up? 3B maybe? I don't want it to loosen too much..a little bit I don't mind but not too much...
