Best way to trim natural hair?

I need to trim my daughter's natual hair, just to even up the ends and stuff. what is the best way to do it? Should I straighten it and go from there? should it be wet and curly? I'm so lost, I haven't the slightest idea how to approach this task...

I usually trim my hair while it's in two strand twists - just snip a bit off of each end. It lets me keep a 'shape' to my hair, too.

Dry. That's how I usually wear my hair, so that's how I prefer to cut it.

I trim my hair by looking at the ends of each individual strand. If I see splits, I cut the strands. If I don't, I let it be.

I think the hair should be blowdryed straight first unless you don't really care about it being a little uneven. When the hair is curly or wet, you can't get an accurate length/measurement because all curls are not the same length; some are more tight than others.

Hmm what do split ends look like? I trim the ends of my twists but to be honest I haven't seen them since I went natural. I'm sure I'm not split end free, but how to recognize them? erplexed

It catches more than just the ends of the twists. It gets splits that may be throughout the length of the hair. Don't know if you have to blow dry first, she did in the vid, but I think you can achieve the same without doing so.
