do u have a relaxer in your hair? that could be it. That's how u get a big HAM on your head lol:wallbash::lachen:

nah..im relaxed and i wear braidouts most of the time. the key for me is a creamy leave in and while hair is wet i braid 5-6 box like braids around head-conrowed at top. hair has to be completely dry to come out right.i sit under dryer most times. then pick out and go. never a problem on my relaxed hair.

Mine always turn out a HAM too. :nono: The only way they don't is if I do small braids and that's too time consuming. My hair is too thick for cornrows so I've just given up.

After today I have decided that I can do braidouts. So for the next go round tonight I am going to do my weekly wash/dc and then I am going to just do a regular set for church tomorrow. I'm off from work Monday for Sunday evening I will do a twist out on dry hair and see how that looks. Thanks to SuperNova I looked at the youtube video on flat twisting. I'm not giving up and I don't want to use heat so this is plan B.

I do my braidouts on wet hair or semi-wet hair. I do 3 big cornrows going straigt back. Basically I treat my hair as if I'm doing a roller set, but I just braid the hair instead.

But the real secret is to make sure that the hair is smooth while it is being braided and never, ever, ever take the braids down until the hair is completely dry. This is very important. I have a complete tutorial of how I do my braidouts in my picture trail.

I have the same issue but I'm thinking its because my hair isn't long enough. The times that I've tried a braid out I did it on dry hair and left the braids in for a couple days an it looked ok.

My braidouts only come out right if I do them when my hair is wet, then I HAVE to wear the braids for a couple of days to set and make sure hair is completely dry, and use coconut oil while I'm waiting for the hair to dry. If not, it's frizz city.

Seems like the running similarity is making sure the hair is FULLY dry before taking out the braids. For some, that may be overnight. For others, it may take a few days.

Mine would take a couple of days to completey dry if I didn't get under the dryer.

I'm not understanding your comment.

Why would a braidout be a ham on relaxed hair? There are tons of women that do it with no problem.

Anyway, Op there are so many different ways to achieve a braid or twistout. Some here have given you great suggestions. Really it's all trial and error. Keep trying. Do it on wet hair, dry hair, with this leave in, with that oil to seal, rollers on the ends, etc, etc. You'll master it if you don't give up.

I did my first braidout and it was horrible. I'm not giving up on "the look" yet, I'll try other options.
