I'm nervous!!!!!!! What if she hates it? Her natural hair is apl, near waist total. OMG!!! I'm going to have her wet it and apply Suave Coconut Condish to make sure I'm only cutting the straightened ends. :guiness: I need one of those before doing it.

(at the bold) You sure do! Lol!:lachen: I think you shouldn't cut her hair though! Is she in high school?

Oh now She shouldn't not right nowwwww. Her hair is SOOO beautiful always have been. Well if she does not like it well it will grow back

But why

15!!!! She's been complaining forever and didn't get a touchup for a long, long time. I'm nervous!!! Her her is 3a'ish...some 2cish....I don't think it'll shrink too much...but if she hates it, I'm moving out tonight lolol!

OKAY ! Calm Down....Take a Deep Breath.

Personally, I would start with a slight "trim" or maybe a dusting until Both You and She feel more confident with your technique and the length.

And if you both like it, I would graduate upwards weekly or every other week. I wouldn't do it all at one time. I would to it gradually to make sure it's what she really wants and that she can handle the shorter lengths:yep:.

Good Luck

But why

You know Mazzie, those ends are relaxed...a good 6-7 inches of them. Sigh..... She's got perfect spiral curls with conditioner and moisture....and she's been straightening her hair with that darned stupid ceramic iron. I should never have bought one. In fact, I'm thinking of sending it to you!

She's in the shower right now conditioning! I've got indigestion...burp! Oy. I guess I don't want her to cut it...but me cuz I know what I'm doing....ceptin' for the nervousness. OMG! Oh hell, where's the peyote lolol!

OHHHHGUUHHH I hated when she did that cause I saw her do it when you guys were in Chicago last time. Remember when I mentioned to her that her hair was so beautiful as it isssssss and she did not need to be using that iron all the time. I TOLLLDDD her that she was going to regret it.

It's only hair and it'll grow back. She may just need a change with her hair, that's if she going with a drastic cut.

It'll be ok.

I agree, do it in stages. That's how I went from beyond BSL to above SL with heavy layers. It was a lot easier. I'm growing it back out now but I loved my short hair a few years back!!!!

Lol! She is 15!? I dunno! Them girls in high school can be rough! I don't think you should. Those mean girls can bully her about her hair. If she was a senior than yeah, but she is still young. I think you shouldn't cut it, not yet anyway.

I like the idea of the gradual cut. That way she can adjust, you can adjust, and the girls at school won't notice as much either... Cutting that much hair can be drastic and emotional, especially if you dont like it. So graudally, she can decide at any point that she wants to stop there and let it grow down some more and cut it more... Good luck!

Her curly hair is APL? I bet it will be beautiful! If she was chopping to a TWA, I'd be more apt to say do it slowly. But it sounds like she's been preparing herself for this, yes?

Talk to her about it. Let her know the positives and negatives and do scenarios about how she may have to handle the females at school, church, wherever. If she has any issues she can talk to you about it at anytime, if you aren't available tell her to reach out to one of her internet sistah friends and we will be there for her in a New York minute!

I did my neice who was going into the 5th grade she hung with a group and I told her what we were doing how we were going to do it and we both raised up our fist in the air and said together. WE ARE STRONG BLACK WOMEN AND WE CAN TAKE WHATEVER COMES OUR WAY!

Happy to say she is going into the 9th grade and she is doing just fine handling the girls and the boys. Gotta a love a self confident black female teenager when they are emotionally strong they are rough and tough riders alll the way!!!!!

Be sure to show her some of the fotkis with hair similar to hers so that she can see what type of styles she can wear from wet and go to rollersets.

Repeat after me.......STRONG BLACK WOMAN!!!!!!!!!!!

if you haven't already done it, do the gradual cut!!! like an inch a month. thats how i cut my relaxer/color out. well i did an inch every couple of months so it took about a year. but i liked that MUCH better than a bc.

When I started wearing my natural hair out I did it during the summer to give myself some time to readjust (this was in college). I wanted to get the hang of styling etc.. before starting the school year so maybe try this with your daughter. That way if she doesn' t like it she can get braids or something to continue growing it out IHTH.

Waiting for updates!!! Since her natural hair is APLish, I don't see the problem, especially if she asked you for it instead of the other way around. If my sister was bold enough to declare at 12 that she didn't want another relaxer, then I think your daughter has thought this through as well.

I'm sorry, we traveled in the meantime and other family stuff...got busy. Well, I BC'd her. It's all natural now! Her hair stretched out is apl so it's not really short. She's braiding it now...and I have to get her some KCCC or use those ghee butter treatments for awhile. Flatironing can seriously damage and dry out your hair. Her texture is 2c-3c ....a range, I know. But she's happy with it.

She's in an elite catholic academy...and y'all know that means white lolol! Nobody will chide her about that. It's other white people stupid stuff they say...but she's strong and just and won't allow that to happen for her or others. So, she's not ashamed or afraid or anything...curly is back and she's loving it.

Thanks for the advice...and the admonishment from Aunti Almaz!!! We knew it would come to this day.

That child's been preparing me! LOL. All together, she had 3/4 natural, 18 inches or so of hair ...which was cut back from around 20 from last year. So, she's been doing it secretly too....a little at a time. That lil debil.

Any pics?!!! lol

I wish. I was supposed to update myself and my camara is ***'d up. It got sand in it. We'll try but that'll be awhile. Plus, I just came back to edit this one. She doesn't want me to blog about her lolol! I lied to her...going to hell for that one :lachen:
