Whats wrong with Petrolatum?

It clogs your scalp and can block moisture out of your hair :yep:

Some folks moisturize and then seal with vaseline... Ain't NO moisture escaping through vaseline! :lachen:

It reminds me of Wax! I was looking at something I had tonight that had Petroleum as the 1st ingredient and Mineral Oil as the 2nd:ohwell: Not sure if I am going to use it.

How often are you planning to Clarify to remove the coating left on your hair.
btw: How far down in the ingredients of Sulphur 8 is the Petro? Just curious....:ohwell:

I clarify every 4 weeks but if its like wax I dont think I want to use it anymore:look:. Petro is the first inactive ingredient in sulfur 8:wallbash:

 What on earth is that? That Bain De Terre stuff? Please don't tell me it's a conditioner!

there's nothing wrong with, what's a grease if you don't have petroleum? it's the sealent so it can stick to your scalp and then get deposited in there. I use hair thickener by fantastix and it hasn't blocked any growth but only increased it. i've SEEN the results.
gease isn't moisturizing, use a hair lotion too & a braid spray ( b/c it has a lot of herbal extracts)
bb oil moisturizer, elasta qp oil recovery, MOP leave in ( real fav, it's worth the money)

use it as much as you like because if your like most on here your a co washer daily so yeah it's nothing wrong with it as long as you have a good reggie...

Thnaks Tiffers. But what if you wash often?:ohwell:
IDK about that one, Q. But I do know that a lot of members were using Sulphur 8 mixed with MN when it was popular. They didn't use it on the length though, just the scalp

I dont think Petro is super evil. It's basically a cheap way to moisturize by sealing the moisture on your strands. But it only works if the hair was moisturized before adding. The reason why i avoid it is because there are other moisturizing ingredients that are truly moisturizing, that i would prefer to use. especially if i'm dropping mad $$$. I can apply my own dang on vaseline to my ends without paying $10+ for some black haircare "moisture" product. honestly petro has worked ok for me as far as moisture, but i hate greasiness and the weighing down so i never use it. i prefer veggie glycerin, rose water, coconut oil, safflower oils as moisturizers.

it creates a protective coating on your hair to block anything i.e. moisture from entering the hair shaft.

to remove this coat you would have to shampoo/clarify more often. as i'm sure oyu know they work by stripping the hair shaft to clean it. causing dry hair.

Yeah thats the thing. I only use it on my scalp but you know some of it is going to on on your hair. wait members were using mn and sulfur 8 together?:burning:?

No. I was looking for something to help me slick my hair back and I grabbed this stuff I had....but had never used: Lustersilk Growth Theraphy Blended with Shea Butter Cholesterol -- Repairs Chemically Treated Hair Promotes Healthy Hair & Scalp

 I did the Same exact thing:lachen:

yeah my hair feels coated a little but it is soft. I sprayed water on my hair this morning. But the thing is I only apply it to my scalp last night:ohwell: I would never rub it into my hair for a mositurizer:nono:

Aint nothing in the world wrong with using pertoleum. IMO.
it's true! let me tell you guys hair thickener by fantastix is good and anything by WONDER GRO is good... i've got some others too..but it's too much work to hurry up and type it all.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!IT ALL DEPENDS ON YOUR REGGIE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

can't be dirty usin' grease, ya hear me out there?!

At one point I was scared to use any product with mineral oil....BUT I've been using KeraCare Conditioning Creme Hairdress on the length of my hair for the past two months. This product has mineral oil but this is the best moisturizer I've used on dry hair! It's non-greasy and it doesn't weigh my hair down. I wish I had this when I started my hair care journey. However, I will not put this on my scalp just the hair length.

With that said....some things have to be trial and error. What works for some may not work for all.

:yep: and thats the golden rule.

My hair is thick so for 2 years I tried doing my hair the LHCF way ( with the natural leave in conditioner, oil, shea butter, blah blah), but it didn't work. My hair is actually the shortest its ever been in my life which is very upsetting. It got so dry everyday. So I'm going back to the grease. My hair is back to being soft. I'm quite happy.
I believe that back in the day I used so much grease that it coated my hair and prevented it from breaking ( never used conditioner, and grease actually was my sole moisturizer). I had such lovely hair back then, I regret not sticking to the basics.

My hair loves petrolatum. Plain and simple case that what works for some may not work for all. In fact, when I did not use petrolatum and products with mineral oil, my hair had a hissy fit!:lachen: Sulfur 8 is perfect for me when I feel like my scalp is dry. I also coat my hair with it when I do my phony pony. I don't have any problem with it because I wash my hair every 3 days.
