I was so positive that I had heat damage at the top of my head. My hair is stick straight whereas the rest of my hair forms perfect ringlets. This morning, I looked carefully at the root of my hair, and low and behold it looks like my hair is coming out of my scap straight as a whistle. :wallbash: It has texture, but it's so loose it doesn't curl. Here I was thinking that as soon as the heat damage grew out, I'd cut it and have new ringlets.

What can I do about this? I don't think I'll be able to wear really pretty wash n goes. Where is this looseness in texture coming from? Is it possible it's because I keep pulling my hair back in a bun all the time?

Soaking wet hair -- see how the back has perfect curls

Now look at this crap.

I see what you mean. I had the same thing because I kept hot combing my hair strait. I can't give you any advice because I wimped out and relaxed my hair. If you can keep hiding that patch, you'd be OK.

My hair is similar in that, the whole front-left side is nothing but a patch of wavy frizz. When slicked back it looks straight, but like a blow-out straight-not as if it naturally grew straight YKWIM? Anyway, the only time it becomes defined is when I apply curl activator gel when I wash n go.

I have the same problem in the same area, and I dont use heat or pull my hair backoften . I have a theory that there is just somthing special about the top front portion of natural hair I know a number of girls who this is the same. no curl pattern dont worry bout it, work with it!

I have this same problem! It is in the front and in the back. It is extremely fustrating because sometimes I want to have a cute curly bang, but that does not happen. And it cannot take a lot of product, or no product at all. Basically I have to wear a head band or smooth it back with a knee high to cover it up.

Yep. Same here. The front area of my head has little texture, and the longer it gets, the more weight there is on that particular area. It's appearing straighter and straighter, to the point where my wash and gos look not so hot, which is why I don't do them anymore.

It's just another unique thing about natural hair...I say rock it.

My crown/top area barely has any curl pattern, the rest is curly. I do not use a lot of heat. My new growth in that area is barely wavy but in other areas extremely wavy.

My hair is "straight in the front, but I beleive that's because I wear buns 95% of the time.
Pulling it back, brushing and tying down with a scarf has done that.
I rarely use heat and haven't had a relaxer in so long, I can't remember.
Do you bun often??

My hair is straighter in the very front too. IDK why. It's not heat damaged. I just usually try to camoflauge it or scrunch it.

Mine was really straight when I first bcd. now, its not as straight but its definitely not like the rest of my hair.. And yes, I pulled my hair back for most of my transition.

THANK YOU!!! I thought I was the only one with this type of 2A type hair in the top of my head. I also thought that it was heat damage, but after not using heat for like 6 months nothing had changed...it was just my texture.:ohwell:

my hair has the same thing goin on. my hair doesn't have the pretty ringlets like yours..at the end they do but in the front part, its wavy..almost straight.

its not you boo! its something about natural hair i think.

My hair is the exact same way...Thought it was relaxed ends so I kept snipping and snipping, then I thought it was heat damage and kept snipping and snipping. Then my mama told me my hair was like that when I was a child. She said that part was always straight. And when I think about it, when I was relaxed and did wash and gos that part never waved up like the rest. It's just your hair. Welcome to the wonderful world of being a multitextured natural.

I'm in the same boat. Unfortunately I kept trying to trim that area and now I feel like if I was to straighten my hair I would have a mullet going on

We are >>>>>>HERE<<<<<< on the front left patch of wavy frizz. Omg im typing this and reading and this is exactly what that section does. I love the way other people transitioning and natural pony's look slicked back with waves and that part does NOT wave in a pony humph... That section has a S wave when wet, but not blow out like. I'm actually air drying with no produc tnow to see what is does :ohwell:. My entire left left side has a looser pattern and has always lain down with minimal effort and is much slower to revert(when natural) Some products will give that side slip but not work as well on my right side...

That's not heat damage, probably. My hair is undefined frizz like that in the front too. Just different textures. :yep:

I have the same issue except its the whole front of my head. I usually pull my wash n gos back because of it. The only thing that has ever helped somewhat is Kinky Curly.

I have the same thing but 2" at the front.. I can't stand it!! I thought it would grow out when I noticed it last July but its still growing in the same fashion.. I thought it was scab hair, then I thought it was heat damage but I rarely used heat in my transition as I was scared of this happening..

Bottom line is I don't know what caused the damage, I'm just giving it extra attention during dcing and doing a twist out and leaving it down. Its definitely frustrating since the hair either side is in such good condition..
The patch

The top of my head is like this... when I do wash and goes I just do the "half up/half down" style. I'll pull the non curly/wavy hair into a small pony tail and leave the rest of my hair down and wavy.
