I am so sorry you feel that way but I can understand where it comes from. I can say with comfort as a former stylist the education given to most stylist(especially AA stylist) is not geared so much towards keeping hair healthy as it is geared toward keeping up with the latest trends. I am confident that no stylist sets out to ruin others hair but you can only do so much when your knowedge base is flawed.It takes effort in the form of reasearch and education and sometimes (unfortunately) trial and error with clients before stylists can become hair gurus.

That said I encourge DIY whenever and wherever possible simply beacause I know that hair is individual and like fingerprints no one elses is just like yours. I also know the one size fits most approach that stylist tend to take is not always going to work.I get that is not for everyone even I am unable to trim my own hair with confidence. But I believe if you take time and listen to your hair ,have patience and, a willingness to experiment you will learn more than most stylist out there.Almost everything I have learned about healthy hair has been through my own research and personal hair journey.

P.S. If you are one of those who cannnot DIY Please don't be afraid to interview a stylist. Sit in their shop and watch the work they do. Ask questions of the stylist and their clients(about products,beliefs about hair & techniques). Good stylist about their business (and yours) and those interested in taking care of hair will not mind any of this. Make sure before you let anyone touch your hair you are comfortable with them. Remeber that this has the potential to be a lifelong relationship and like a nanny, a doctor or a dentist you are are placing in their care something precious not to mention you are paying them.

I agree! I also suggest that after you have selected a stylist you do NOT let that stylist do anything chemical or cut/trim related on your first visit. Go for a simple roller set or blow dry -- but nothing that will be permanent. Spend that visit discussing your preferences with the stylist and observing how the stylist works on YOUR hair. You might not have seen her comb out someone with a fine-tooth comb when you were observing, but s/he might use one on you; is she heavy-handed; does she jerk your head, etc. These are all things that you need to know and might not be able to tell from a chair across the room.
 
MissJ sorry dear I hope your feeling better now I know that hairstylist are really EVIL and mean when it comes to others hair, not all of them though but I avoid them last time I went for a trim the fool cut my hair completely and gave me a new hair style she cut 5inchs and called it a trim. Bloody fool...sorry I can't get over it :( anyways we waiting on the pics dear.

I'm in GA too and I want to know even though I have sworn off hairstylists.

Its so unfortunate that most stylist have bad track records:nono:......I wonder what these cosmetology schools are doing to change this:perplexed
 
This thread has turned from a blast on a specific stylist to some bashing 99.9 percent of stylists :rolleyes:

All stylists aren't bad and jealous of your hair. I'm an aspiring cosmetology student and I think that each individual learns and interprets things differently thus resulting in different results.

As consumers, WE are responsible for what happens to our hair. If you sit there mad because someone is doing something that you don't like >>> yet you don't open your mouth to tell them immediately.....then you deserve what you get.

I've always told anyone doing my hair what I wanted and reminded them once they got to that section to guarantee that my hair is to MY SATISFACTION. Speaking up works wonders, sitting down pouting doesn't. This post isn't directed at the OP or anyone specifically, I just hate that some would act like every stylist is out here with evil scissors & relaxers to mess your hair up.

Truth is, some women love to get their hair done and why not? It's your own responsibility to research thoroughly and find out the right person for your hair care needs. JMHO.....:drunk:
 
I am wondering because Miss J & Jamaica Lovely have spoke about Salon Reviews and the salons suck. Could it be that some people from the salon are posting positive reviews on our site because they may be members too? I think that it is strange that has happened within a week. Hmm...I hope you are alright.
 
Maybe it wasn't as bad as she thought when she had a chance to look at it. But it was too late to delete the thread. She might be embarrassed now. I know i would be:look:. Its probably best to just wait until she responds, if it was that bad i would hope she would come back to warn others.

Oh. I understand she may be embarrassed. 'm just saying it's not that serious...really. We all make mistakes and we all understand that. You are right oh well...:rolleyes:
