OMG What kind of "stylist" did she go to?

Three words: Small Claims Court

These three words: beat dat a**!

I told yall the time that stylist messed my hair up. She got the beat down from Jersey and I did not give a damn! This was years ago.

Im not even going to watch, because I'd probably go back to dat salon and beat her down again just off da post traumatic stress I endured.

1) First of all, she doesn't even need a relaxer. Some ppl may be insulted by this statement but ppl with 3a - 4a type curls dont need to relax...imo

2) As knowledgable as she is about her hair and how to grow it healthy, she should have researched how to self relax

3) The longer you stretch the more difficult it will be to find someone willing AND able to do your hair properly

4) most of those knots could have been removed without cutting. If you dont have patience and time for your own hair what makes you think someone else will just bc you paid them? Most stylists only budget a certain amount of time for a particular service. (Time is $$$). If your hair requires more (esp due to something you decided to do ie., stretch for 16 weeks; they are prob going to rush through the rest of your service once they realize that they've gone over the allotted time.

I LOVE this HHJ!!

It's not about hair type, it's about hair manageability, and, more importantly, choice and personal preference. Those with type 1 hair use straighteners, which might seem inconceivable to most black people, and then we have black people with mostly already naturally curly hair getting jherri curls. Again, it's all down to personal choice and preference and it's not for anybody to say what someone else 'needs' or doesn't need to do with their own hair. Especially if they themselves don't have that hair type. 4c's could say that 4b's don't 'need' to relax. A size 12 could say a size 8 doesn't 'need' to lose weight. Walk a mile in my shoes.

Do tell. Do tell.

She should not have paid that stylist. I would be taking selfies right in the salon and posting them online, naming names, and see if she would have the nerve to brawl with me for not paying her.

And I feel bad for what happened to her hair, but she could have gotten those tangles out without cutting using the right technique. I have helped a girl with full-on dreaded mats detangle her hair using the harp method, and we were able to get the mats out. It took two days, but we did it, and she lost about 1/10 the hair that the girl in the video lost.

It's stories like these that made me stick with the expensive salon I went to before I started transitioning. Every time I went, no matter how infrequently I went (one time I stayed away for 9 months!), they were courteous, did a consult, examined my hair, went slow, I was the only customer the stylist was working on, and they still had me out of there in about 2 hours. Worth the $150 including tip every time. Of course, the black male owner of the salon had both black and white clients, so go figure. :ohwell:

I agree she could have salvaged most of that hair. I had postpartum shedding in a weave that turned out to be a nightmare. Reniece (my stylist)spent two hours or more detangling my hair. With care! I lost some thickness but she did what needed to be done to do the job I was paying her to do. I didn't pay her to be "annoyed that I had a baby and too bad for me that I had shedding but since that's not what she signed up for I had it coming"....what kinda mess is that?
She hung in there with me and treated my hair with respect. I paid her and tipped her generously because that right there is why I respect her as a stylist. She took care of my hair like it was her own.

This young woman didn't have it coming for stretching her relaxer and trusting a professional with the touch up.... THAT IS A STYLIST'S JOB.

Although....I agree with most that she should have walked out. Forget that. I don't care. U are not ripping at my hair. Period. Call the police on me....I'm not paying to be bald.

The knots that I saw in the video could not be salvaged. A huge knot hanging on the bottom of three strands of hair needs to be cut. The matted hair looked like it could have been saved though. Even if she had salvaged some of her hair it would have been thin. I can't do thin hair so I would have just cut my hair in a shoulder length bob.

Well damn!!!! CTHU

I feel for her. She might have to start over. I would have told that stylist what I think. I remember once the girl who washed my hair tangled up my hair so bad and the stylist turned around and asked me what I did to get my hair that way. I didn't say anything. I guess this young woman felt the same way, just too upset to even put anything into words.

My hair tangles like that and when it does I literally sit with a needle and detangler each knot out and only cut out the ones which are undetanglerable. But those are a small percentage. A few of the ones she showed the camera I could have got out for her . Patience is key.
I have survived a few epic detangling/ unmatting sessions where I went at it with my fingers and a straight pin. Took forever but it greatly reduced any cutting I had to do. Not everyone wants to take the time though. Especially when it takes so long just to do a small section. I understand why she cut. You just get so overwhelmed by the jacked uppedness of your head.

I've paid every time a stylist has messed up my hair to avoid confrontation. The one time I didn't pay it escalated into a physical brawl, literally a brawl with several people engaged in the chaos. I truly applaud her for not losing her cool and emphasize with her experience. I seldom go to salons now because I'm too traumatized by previous experiences.

She needs to put the stylist and salon on blast so no one else has to endure what she did. I can't see as an owner how you could let a customer walk out like that. I can recall a couple of times I've expressed displeasure the owner has offer to do my hair over or give me a discount. Most of the times you really just want to leave and go home. The damage is usually done. I think in her case most of the hair could have been savage if someone more experienced intervened. I HATE cutting my hair and would have literally cried to cut so much off. I'm a slow grower so 3-5inches is a years worth of retention for me.

a real fight... a knock out fight...? whew

Yes, a street brawl. This was two years ago. I'm natural and I told her that she can't apply shampoo directly to my hair and that she had to use conditioner first. I came to the salon with my own products to make it easy. She had an attitude because I gave her instruction on how to do my hair and she wanted to do what she wanted to do. She was also annoyed because I refused a relaxer. She washed my hair with my conditioner but used a different shampoo and added something else. As she was combing my hair (once washing the shampoo out) I knew she used different products because my hair felt really dry and stiff. She was combing it with a small comb and I asked her to use a larger comb. I could literally feel/hear hair being ripped/breaking off. I asked her to stop and asked for a larger comb. She said she didn't have one so I told her to ask someone else for a comb.

After I was done under the dryer, she blow dryed my hair and used a flat iron. My hair looked dry and stiff. It had no bounce and looked like how your hair looks after a week or two blow out. It didn't look fresh. Before she gave me my bill I told her I didn't like my hair and it looked limp and flat. She said she didn't know what else to do and that it's just the way my hair is. She gave me my bill and I told her I was only paying half since she did a half *** job. She started yelling at me and said I needed to pay for she was going to call the cops on me. I told her to call the cops because I wasn't going to pay the full bill only what she deserved. They didn't call the cops and I told them to call the cops I had somewhere to be. I decided to leave after about 5 minutes or so because the women were yelling and cursing at me. I paid them half my bill and leave. As I'm leaving the salon one of the stylist is yelling "she no pay, she no pay". I keep walking and call my cousin and two friends that lived nearby. I hear a crowd of people making noise and as I turn around the woman that did my hair had a bucket of water and threw it on my hair.
Chile.....
It was really embarrassing and an awful experience.

Isn't that considered assault? I would have had her behind locked up. I recently decided to go natural because these so called professional stylist don't know a thing about hair care. They're just as stupid and egotistical as they want to be and to dang on ignorant to want to learn a thing or two about it proper handling and care.

WTH? Assaulted with a bucket of water. Did you call the police? What happened?

I think that could be an assault and a battery. But since the water made contact, definitely a battery.

I edited my post because I decided not to share what I did. Someone has already called me unclothed and ghetto.

But no, I didn't call the cops but someone else did. By the time the cops arrived I was gone. I don't remember the name of the salon but it was a dominican salon on 149th & 8th ave. I think it's called Vanessa's.
