Did anyone go for the KERASTASE treatment....

How did it go...They booked me for tomorrow because so many people responded...for today...:grin: So i want to know how it went...
 
I went this morning and everything turned out well. My stylist as I had suspected was caucasian. I wasn't too concerned since I have had caucasian stylists in the past. However, not since I returned to my natural hair. But she assured me she had a large clientelle of both natural and relaxed ladies. She affectionately referred to them as her "girls". She was really cool and very patiently answered my 50-eleven questions. :yep:

The treatment she chose for was Nutridefense. To my surprise the treatmeant was not a mask but a serum. At first that didn't sit too well with me because I am a deep conditioner fanatic. But she explained that the in-salon treatmet is really good and if she had any problem detangling she would add the corresponding conditioner on top of the treatment. She further explained that was not the correct way to use it but she would if she felt my hair needed. So I agreed to try it her way. I was really impressed with how the shampoo made my hair feel. She also did not tangle my hair during the wash. She added the treatment and gave me a nice scalp and neck message. Then she detangled first with her fingers then used a comb starting from the ends up. She earned big points from me for that.:yep:

After she rinsed, I felt my hair it was very soft. I think she also added some extra conditioner during the wash out to acommodate me and put me at ease. (God bless her! lol)

Now on to the blow out. She sprayed in a detangler and decided to use a Phyto anti frizz product instead of the Kerastase counterpart she felt it would be better for my hair. She used a paddle brush to blow it out and it was all very painless. She then added a heat protectant. It was a product from the CIBU line. After the blow out she recommended a (gasp) a trim. Shes said my ends were dry. Well you know LHCF ladies don't cut dry ends we moisturize them. So I thanked her for her assessment and then I told her I would pass on the trim today. She did mentioned a few more times but I remained firm on the NO. She then flat ironed my hair (that was an additional $25). She did spiral curls, said it would hide my dry ends. I said COOL. :grin:

I've never heard of a Kerastase treatment. Sounds freakin delish LOL
 
Wow, it looks fantastic! I'm sorry I missed this, now. I love a good freebie but I was too paranoid that they wouldn't know what to do with my 'fro. Heck, licensed black folk don't know what to do with my hair....

I've had it before and it made my hair look like a fresh relaxer even though I was 3 weeks post. It broke out my scalp though because it has a high perfume content. I now just ocassionally use the oleo-relax masque on just my ends.

Clearly I don't visit the hair forum often enough. What is a Kerastase treatment? Getting your hair done with Kerastase products?
 
I went and I loved it…I have not been to this particular salon in about 8 years (it is on the other side of town and traffic is a beast) I will try to post pics later on today – the experience was great – the salon manager did my hair. He spent about a good 10-15 talking to me about my hair and inspecting it while running his fingers all through it (very thorough) Even though my hair is very fine he stated that it “very strong and healthy” (shout out to “Protein is My Friend”!!!) – I haven’t been to a salon to get my hair “done” since November (trims only)

So he gets me to the shampoo bowl and shows me everything that he will be using on my hair (didn’t have to ask) I got the Reconstructing Ritual – which is a two step process – He sprayed on the first part throughout my hair – massaged for about 3 minutes then added top seal – massaged – let it penetrate for about 10 minutes. He loved to talked and made me feel so comfortable in there. There were a couple of black stylists in there trying to watch him (forgot to mention he is Caucasian :shhh::grin:) on the cool…(don’t know what that was about) – He then blew dry my hair, the dude is bad – he was whippin’ that brush in and out his pocket like it was high noon. He even showed me the styling tools that he would be using on my hair – wide toothed comb, blowdrying brush (even explained why he chose the brand he uses) – :grin::grin:

Before blow drying he only used a “drop” of product on my hair (luv this dude) and then he used a big barrel curling iron – the style is very similar to my avatar but a little longer

Your hair looks so pretty!! Girl she was trying to upsell - that is the idea of having a "free promotion" - I ended up buying some Kerastase (they had a sale 20% off)

The normal cost for that treatment and blowdry is 85.00 - I asked him how often should I get the treatment - he recommended about once a month....

I had the worse experience ever. I drove from Cicero, IL to Elmhurst, IL. I didn't book an appt. with any Chicago salons because to feed the meter is crazy expensive. Therefore, I thought I was saving trouble going out to Elmhurst. I didn't save trouble because parking was also an issue there.Well, I had a white stylist that said they didn't book enough time for her to be able to blow out my hair. At first the ***** tried to lie and say they were only to condition, not blow out our hair. Now, my hair is texlaxed. At that time it still looked and felt like natural hair( I had a lot of reversion). However, I liked it. Anyway, I could sense she didn't want to blow out my hair because she thought it would be too much trouble. The result was me leaving there with my hair looking worse than when I came in. It was unbelievably dry because she also shampooed my hair. I was so upset I cried so much after leaving that place. In the midst of my anger I went to a black stylist recommended here, Daneen Brown. She texlaxed me even more and straighten my hair. I didn't like my experience with her either, but at least I left out looking nice and presentable. Now, my hair is significantly more straight than I would have liked, and I can only let time heal this wound to see if I grow to like it or regret it.

I think I am done with stylists period. Anything I need from here on out I will have to do myself because I can't tolerate these people. Daneen was highly praised and I expected a lot more out of her, but she did things that had me going "I can't believe females from LHCF has recommended her." Real talk, do it yourself or live with regret.
 
I went to get the free treatment, and I was prepared to speak up if ANYTHING wasn't going my way.

I had never been to the particular salon before and I can say, I was the only "brown" person around. They took me to the shampoo bowl and I explained that this was my first time at any salon in over 2 years and I was nervous. She assured me everything would be fine and put me at ease. She explained what treatment she would use, the Oleo Relax. She shampooed my hair very gently, and did not rough my hair up. She lathered twice. (I had put a lil oil on my hair beforehand) She then put the treatment on and gave me a 5 minute pressure scalp massage. It felt so good. Then she rinsed in cool water. I ran my fingers through my hair and it felt really soft, silky and moisturized.

I went to the chair and another stylist did my blowdry. I told her that my hair is heat sensitive, and she was fine with that. She added a creamy Kerastase leave in and a Kerastase serum and she started blowdrying very gently with a Mason Pearson brush on cool. I told her it was ok if she turned it up on medium, she said she was fine blowdrying it on cool and that it's whatever I wanted. I told her medium was fine and she proceeded. After it was mostly all dry and smooth, she took a round brush and rounded it out a little bit and bumped the ends. I looked at the brush and didn't see any hairs in it so I felt good.

Then the salon owner comes over and tries to upsell me on the BKT. She goes on a 5 minute sales pitch on how it's harmless, you can use it every week if you want, and she can't understand why more "ethnic" people didn't get it because our hair "doesen't have moisture" and that the keratin straightens the hair safely. I had to shut her down real quick. She didn't know that she was speaking to a Nikos cousin. I was like "What about the formaldehyde"? Then she looked kind of nervous and goes to say it's a preservative and everything cosmetic has it in it and yada, yada, yada. I asked her what brand do they use, and she was like "It's called Brazilian Keratin" I said, I know what it's called but who makes it?" She the repeated herself and said "Brazilian Keratin" I was like, "No, is it made by "Marcia, Global, QOD..." Then another stylist chimed in and said, "We use Marcia" The owner looked dumbfounded. Then I assured her that I knew exactly what it was, had done my research and I would think about it. She walked away looking stupid.

Overall I had a good experience at the salon, my hair was light, shiny and bouncy, and I didn't have to curse anyone out or experience a setback. Best of all it was free. I did tip both the stylist and the shampoo girl $5 each. (That's all I had)

I know the upsell girl!!! :grin: It definitely worked in regards to product. Now I want a few Kerastase products.:lick: I want the shampoo she used and the mask. I also want to find a way to get that in "in salon" treatment to use at home of course. :yep:

Oh WOW! I am sorry you had such a frustrating experience at both salons. (((HUGS)) A knowledgeable and willing stylist really does make the difference. But unfortunately finding one is through trial and error. Hopefully the next time you decide to try out another salon your experience will be great!

I love Nutridefense.. I got it right after a relaxer at my salon.. it cost an extra $40... After being foolish that time; I went and bought the vials on ebay for like 30 for 6 or 8 vials. I had to buy the spray bottle to put on top for like an extra $2.. but its worth it.

Love that stuff...
