What's so great about her hair???

yes Chili is gorgeous and i love her hair... i dunno if it is the most "stylish" look and i agree with the OP in that regard.

still purdy though :D

I've been a TLC stan since 1992 and I've never thought twice about Chili's hair. :look: It isn't exciting to me at all; just flat-out boring and kind of limp-looking. And something mine will never resemble. :giggle: I think some people back in the day were just shocked over someone with her skin tone having hair like that, to be honest. As far as celeb hair, Chili's never wowed me. It's like "Isn't Jennifer Aniston's hair so amazing???" Um... no. :look: It's boring and standard-fare for her texture.

---
And about the hair magazines... put those down. Now. They'll specially feature anyone with type 2 or 3 hair, or long hair, or a long weave.

I think her hair is very pretty, as is she. It's not super long, nor is it the prettiest head of hair I've ever seen, but I honestly don't see what's not great about it. Yes, there are prettier manes at LHCF, but I've seen many here that don't look nearly this pretty, long or healthy. It's not about her being a 3 either; I just think it's pretty and the style looks nice on her :) And I think her baby hairs are very cute.

Co-signing the bolded. Back in the 90s it was rare and exotic.

It's always the same because maybe that's her signature style. I'm usually in a rollerset, but that doesn't mean I cna't do other things to my hair. It's just my style.

I personally like her hair. It's healthy thick and long. If she were a member on here would would be oohing and awwing, so what makes her diff cuz she's a celb. It's her hair and she's flaunting it so I'm not even trip.

SK --- You So Bad ! ! ! !:lachen:

Her hair is pretty, nothing new. Back in school the girls with her texture always had longish hair and wore a similar style, so I saw it all the time...it was expected.

What makes Chili so fly to many black people is that she's brown with that type of hair. I'll admit that I didn't see that too often until I got older and came in contact with people of color from all over the globe. I just love seeing a sister repping the natural and some curls--something other than a blonde lacefront.

I think she's in all the magazines being oohed and awwed over because of her hair type. Not so much the style, but her hair type is highly envied.

Okay, I think some of you ladies misunderstood what I was saying. I am NOT hating on her. She is a VERY pretty woman in the face. HOWEVER, her hair is ALWAYS the same and ALWAYS being featured in a hair magazine. I'm not saying she should do some crazy style that takes 3 hours to do or anything like that, BUT it's been something like 16-17 YEARS!!! CHILE do a different STYLE -- ESPECIALLY if you are in a magazine that talks about HAIR! Show some VERSATILITY!!!!

I agree with the lady who said that back in the day it was rare to see someone w/her color with natural hair like that...and I agree that it sometimes looks like it's lifeless, dull and limp and like it needs to be washed...and THOSE are the pics that they actually put in the HAIR MAGAZINES!!!! That ain't FEATURE WORTHY!!!!

That's all Im saying...fan or no fan, I can't take away that the chic is pretty and that she is AWESOME for her age to be lookin like she does... But I just don't see what's so great about her hair that always looks the same - and then to feature it every other month like it's something AWESOME to see... it's just not! JMHO

well, IMO, it's a breath of fresh air to see her hair. It's healthy, and it's hers. Hardly ever see that with African American women in the entertainment world. Go her!

She has good hair. She got Indian in her family. :look:  That's why al the magazines are interested. She has long loosely curled hair. Also, she's not light skinned so people see her hair/complexion combo as a rarity. But seriously, she is one of the few black women in the industry who wears her own hair and it appears to be healthy.

To be honest most of my weaves look like her hair, so based on that her hair is usually on point

Chili epitomizes healthy, pretty hair for many black women who aren't on hair boards. If one is interested in the latest 'do or the most variety, she wouldn't be a role model; then again those who are, all wear weaves and lace-fronts.

Yeah her hair is shiny..blah blah blah:ohwell:

I dont like her hair that much. The hair style looks like she just graduated kindergarten or maybe middle school:lachen: And shes been rocking that style for 20yrs now:yawn: It always looks limp, waxy, & wet. And i cannot stand her baby hairs it reminds me of Tyras fake lace wigs:lachen::lachen: Truthfully i think the only reason why she is in hair magazine(s) is because of her loose curl texture and its all hers. Nothing stylish, nothing classy, nothing healthy..its hers and wavy..thats it:rolleyes:

I understand what you are saying. I have a best friend with what some people would consider good hair in the 3 texture family, but she does nothing with it. To me it's kind of boring. I like to change my hair styles up a little bit, wear it straight, spiral curls, loose curls, up, down etc. Not her, the same thing all the time, in a pony tail. One thing I can say about Chili is that she has a curly hair texture that you can wear down with out it looking like a poodle on top of her head.

ETA: I tried to give me friend advice about how to maintain and style her hair because she always complains how she can't do anything with it. WTF!!!! But she doesn't listen to me cause she is lazy. Whatever....

I think sometimes people get too caught up with "style". I've noticed that usually the women with the thickest, longest, most drool-worthy hair are the ones with "boring" or "classic" styles...

Personally I'm much more impressed by long healthy hair that's just there lookin happy than a super complicated mile-high style.

ITA!!!
I also agree w/the comment that if she was a member of LHCF she would get comments about how pretty her hair is....

A lot of people on here keep their hair is buns/or other low-maintenance styles (with some only using heat 1 or 2/year) although "protective" they are not the most "fashion-forward" styles and we don't seem to have a problem with that:ohwell:

So if Chili likes here curly hair 365/year I don't see the big deal :ohwell:...I don't care one way or the other it's her hair...I won't go as far as to judge whether her hair is "healthy" or not...Healthy hair is relative plus, I don't know her so I can't say her hair is/isn't something.

I'm over the baby hair thing but if she likes it and that's all the matters!

This post was to read. :yep: I just want to know if anyone has any guess to what here hair color is? I want that exact color on my hair. I want something different for the summer.

lmao at this thread....

her hair is actually healthier then alot of clebs who throw weave in at the drop of a dime, or should i say at least it SEEMS that way since its all hers...

overall i dont really like her hair tho.. no hate or anything it just not for me i wonder how it looks straight?

:yep: :yep: :yep: ITA

But ummmm. . .I don't understand this thread. Her hair is absolutely gorgeous.

I think that is why I hate it. It looks like a dollar store weave. I am so used to seeing girls with weaves in that texture, that it just automatically looks like fake hair to me. I also hate the color.

BTW, can someone explain to me what the whole baby hair thing is about? I swear I never heard that term until a few months ago. I know what it is, but what is supposed to be so great about it?

I think it's because she's got the type of hair that a lot of people want. Both length and texture.

A lot of weaves I see look very similar to her texture. In the old days, I'd probably would've been right along drooling with everyone else, but I now know to appreciate/love what I have been blessed with.

Plus, she's just a pretty lady.

Yes. The point of the thread is questioning why she is in HAIR magazines with the same old style, which I agree. I think the point of a hair magazine is to exhibit hairstyles to try. Why show the same person with the same hairstyle each month?

Yes her hair is gorgeous, but the thread is about why her hair is so boring. Yes she has nice hair, but she maybe needs to be more versatile?

They will probably say she had more curls in the last issue. Or that her curls spiraled left in the March issue and right in the May issue. :look:

I hear you but what is boring about gorgeous hair? lol It's colored. . .pretty. . .she puts it in ponytails. . .she prefers to wear it down. . .sometimes half up. . .sounds like regular "LHCF friendly" styles to me *shrugs*

She can give me her old "boring" hair any day

Yeah me too! Lol But I think to be on the cover she should have more Pow! if you know what I mean.

i think the OP's point was, what makes it so stylish that she is being featured on the cover of hair style mags?

I find that the people with the healthiest hair are those who leave well enough alone. We are always talking about low manipulation on here. I am sure people look at our buns and kinky twists and wonder why we don't do something with our hair.

My mom had long hair when I was a child and she put it in a braid every day. People would be like , If I had hair like that, I would do this and that with it. The reason she had the hair is because she didn't do anything to it.

She is happy with her look. It works for her.

I'd never heard the actual term until I started frequenting hair boards, but I knew automatically what it was. As a child, a wet baby brush was often taken to my edges to get those baby hairs to lay down. I think it just kind of gives the hair a softer look, maybe to frame the face.

I dunno, I really don't do much with mine anymore. Sometimes I will take a baby brush or toothbrush (aka my super mini hairbrush :lachen:) and smooth them down a bit.

Okay, now I'm understanding the point of the OP. I agree. If we're talking a hair mag, people aren't too into if your hair is yours and 'healthy', they want to see styles. She's always wearing the same style in these magazines so I wonder what type of message that sends. For someone with her hair type, I don't see how they could get style inspiration from seeing her in the same style every issue. It's like having the same type 4 celebrity rocking a fro in every issue--all type 4 naturals don't want to wear fros everyday--show us some options.

Like someone else said, Chili has what's considered 'pretty' hair by most black women--hence why that type of weave flies off shelves.
