Why wouldn't you use black thread? My first weave experience!

Hello, all! I'm tired, hungry and beat down and only Lord knows why. This constant rain should've dropped the pollen count, but I'm still a little sneezy, but I wanted to share this before I konked out for the night! :grin:

I'm too tired to summarize for a whole story, so I'll just do bullet points. :lachen:

-I came early (12:30, my appt was 1), so we were able to start early... for her to take four and a half hours! :nono:
-It was in a really small basement, not a salon, and she had vaguely ho-ish glamor shots of herself and a friend - tight jean skirt, booties poppin' AND a picture of her adorable baby girl covered in money! :nono: And she really can swear, too. :look:
-She took her sweet time, but did put on a few movies for me to watch and spent about half an hour just finding the right bootleg on the internet. :lol:
-Didn't use black thread for some stupid reason but a really ugly, dookie brown and didn't part my hair the way I wanted to (I plan to have this fixed this weekend - it shouldn't be too hard)
-But she talked her way through what she was doing and how to wash and care for my hair underneath, which was good.

Overall, I'd rate the experience a B- for my first time. Environment aside, I think she did a great job and at 35$, I'm far from complaining. I've found a way to situate my hair to part my bang how I want, so I'll have a friend help me with that. The hair blends really nicely, although I think I want it shorter than how I had her cut it. It's tight, but it doesn't hurt any and I'm not tenderheaded, so I think I'm okay.

Hilarious. I've been in the same situation before.

For 35$, you got what you paid for...a word of advice...I always bring my own thread and needle if I'm going to someone's house to get my hair done. Actually, I bring my own comb as well. You never know where their stuff has been.

:cup: GREAT advice. Also, I make sure to bring a little tissue and purell.... I've been places (including braid shops) where they had no TP and no soap in the bathroom! :eek: SMDH

Thank you. The BSS I got my hair from asked if I needed thread, but I said no. Next time, I'll know better. I think she did a good job, but just lacked professionalism. I definitely paid for the atmosphere I got.
 
Thanks, Paniolo. I was worried - buying the hair the first time, but I think I found a nice, believable texture. It's from the Janet Collection.
 
Funny story & Your hair looks really nice and natural. All's well that ends well.

I had someone fix a track for me once using brown thread and I hated it. My hair is naturally black and I use black hair when I weave so I was very concious of it especially because it was in the front (I think she might have been bringing my closure forward. I took it out and redid it myself.

A couple of things:

1. With a GOOD weave, it shouldn't matter if the thread is fluorescent green! IT SHOULDN'T BE VISIBLE.

2. I have read that using brown thread instead of black is so that it is visible when it is time to remove the tracks. Go over to BHM and read all the horror stories about folk who have been unable to tell where the "matching" thread was, and who ended up cutting hair instead of thread. This hasn't only happened when someone was doing her own hair, but stylists have made the error too.
 
My hair is naturally brown and when I am weaved up I like brown thread.

Your hair looks great though.

Can you go more into detail about 1? How would that work?

And I recently dyed my hair black. So I was a little put off by the brown.
 
That is hilarious, but it turned out nicely. 35 isn't bad for what you got. I know some women who have horrible experiences and have to pluck out hundreds.

it was a mess. she couldn't keep her pants up, top ain't fit, sniffling all over the place and stopped twice for a few puffs of her Black and Mild! :nono:

i think i can find affordable elsewhere.

I was looking around for affordable and she's what I found. I did find another stylist who I think is waaaay better than her, I just couldn't afford him at the time, but his prices were agreeable. I'm definitely going to try him for my next weave.

Most people who are wearing weaves want it to look realistic -- maybe pass it off as their own hair. How could anyone think it is their hair if thread/tracks are showing? If I had thread showing, the stylist's work wouldn't be finished. It would need to be redone until the thread was concealed. For techniques (if you need to teach your stylist :perplexed ) check out the weave section on BHM; there are links to videos and fotkis and detailed instructions. :yep:

Everybody doesn't use black. I usually buy brown that way I can see it against my hair when I'm taking it out. The black would blend in too much. But you can't see it once my hair is finished. I'm sorry your hair didn't turn out the way you liked. But in all honesty, you get what you pay for. I think it looks pretty good for $35 though.
