Any tips on what I should do to prepare my hair for the press?

Should I wash and dry at home or let the stylist wash and dry?

TIA!!

I guess it depends on how much you trust your stylist, LOL.

I just got my hair pressed out two weeks in a row. The first time, I let the stylist shampoo and DC, but she was way too rough in detangling my mostly natural, 4b hair. I saw her throw two small handfuls of hair in the garbage, and it broke my heart. I couldn't stop thinking about it all week.

The second time, I pre-poo'd, washed, DC'd and detangled at home, before I went to the salon. The comb ran through my hair like butter, and she didn't need to do any detangling, so I didn't lose any hair. I slept much better that week, knowing that I'd taken matters into my own hands and protected the health of my hair. Good luck with whatever you decide!

ditto what mstar has stated.

Yep ITA with the above poster. The more you do for your hair at home the better off you will be. Remember...no one cares about your hair as much as you do! And be sure that your hair 120% detangled before a flat iron/hot comb comes anywhere near your head. Good luck!

I'd do it myself- But thats just me because I dont trust stylist with heat or perms.

But try to give your hair lots of TLC beforehand, thats most important.

Bring a heat protectant and tell the stylist to put it in your hair before she presses it. :yep:

One advice I received from an LHCF'er was to make sure I do a protein treatment before heat treating. This week you could do a mild 2mn Aphogee protein treatment for example and make sure you give it proper moisture this week. I'd detangle and dry my hair using the Pinkskates tension method and detangle some more, more and more...all the stylist has to do is apply the heat protectant and straighten...

I'm no expert but I had my roots pressed for the first time yesterday at the salon and as much as I trust my stylist, I co-washed and detangled at home prior to going to the shop.

Thanks ladies!! I'm not really nervous about the appointment, but I dont want the stylist ripping through my hair. Supposidly she knows how to deal with natural hair but I thing I'm going to her with my hair already washed and detangled.
