Please tell me what year finger waves went out?

I actually saw an acquaintance that I had not seen in years a few days ago and she had the pineapple head, finger waved style! It looked really horrible. It was a wig or weave that was finger waved. I did not know that it was possible to finger wave fake hair/extensions? It looked like she had applied mud to her head, it was so thick. It almost looked like a cartoon caricature. I was with a co-worker and my co-worker was asking me what she had on her head. I swear this is the worst hairstyle I have ever seen. I frown upon people taking pics of other people and posting them online without their permission but after seeing this ladies hairstyle I really wanted to take a pic and post here. I did not dare though!

I think they are coming back...especially with all the retro looks some of the celebs are wearing...I admit I would wear some soft looking waves if I could figure out how to do them but the ones that are all plastered to your head with all that gel is a no go

You're right. Soft waves did come back in the last few years. But not those hard fingerwaves from the 90s with the gel.

I believe I was in the 7th grade the last time you could rock those w/o penalty. There was a cute boy in my class who wore those I think my aunt finger-waved my hair when I was like in the 6th grade. That would have been '92-ish.

Okay is that sort of like that lady I see at my job that sports this WAY high behive type hairdo that won't move even in an earthquake and tornado. He hair is almost as tall as she is and I am wondering if she has any neck issues. Gold rings on every finger that nasty 14k gold also puke. She is a LOVELY person. Sweet, kind professional acting I just thought that was something West Siders do. They do that in other parts also?

I LOVE fingerwaves, classic fingerwaves, soft and big with a pin curl comb out at the end. It looks sexy. You do them with styling lotion or mousse, after they set you comb them out, they are the type from back in CASABLANCA days. I love it. I use to wear the soft ones in 95 with them combed out in Cosmetology SCHOOL. AND YES I WAS DAMN CUTE!!!!!!!

This thread is funny! I will say I would have never believed it until last summer I went to small town FL and all I can say is WOW! I saw stuff I had never seen, hadn't seen in 20-30 yrs, oh and some of the language was foriegn to me...roflol!

These pix don't look like the typical fingerwaves I have in mind being described in here...LOL! I like these. I have never worn or personally liked the type of fingerwaves that are being in here.

Well I'm in NJ and a good friend of mine decided she was going to single handedly try to bring fingers waves back in style. She said her stylist chuckled when she first requested them. Shes been wearing the off and on for the past couple of months and i must admit they look really nice. I was considering getting some for old time sake. Ive even seen a couple of other finger- waved heads in Jersey recently.

Fingerwaves are alive and well in Florida...I was there last week and saw a lady rocking 'em (Not the soft ones, the small, hard ones that you could tell are being held together with gobs and gobs of gel).

That kind of sounds like what the woman in the "pineapple tutorial" on YouTube is doing - she puts a triangle hair net on tightly and then pulls the hair up a bit through the individual diamonds/squares of the net. Hers doesn't look as awful as black popcorn though, .
