Do you let people borrow/use your flat iron?

2 or 3 times last year I'd be over someone's house and have my flat iron plugged up and for whatever reason, someone would ask to use it and I would let them. Once or twice I noticed afterwards that because they had alot of product in their hair, there was a little "gunk" on the sides of the iron when they were done using it (which they usually had it turned up on the highest heat setting as well).

I'm kinda leary of letting people use my personal iron at this point for that reason.

Have you/do you let other people try your iron out if they ask to use it?

Yeah, I agree. People be burning up the iron.

I gave my mom a very gently used FHI that I had. It looked really great.

I went to do her hair a few months later and it was caked up like an old dirty stove. I told her it is better to clean the thing after. I mean those irons are investments!!!

I clean mine after every use and even if I didn't it would take a LONG time for it to get black stuff all over it.

I would let someone use it once on clean hair if they happen to be over.

KhandiB? Didn't you use the FHI one time? Or was it the dryer? LOL Don't get me lying. Whatever it was, I did not mind at all. But then again, I know she is not loading up on grease and oils pre-ironing.

I will do my mom's hair with my own iron, but best believe it leaves with me so it does not end up like the one I gave her.

ABSOLUTELY NOT!!! I just found out my mom borrowed my CHI.....so I bought a new FHI....LOL!!!:lachen: Now the CHI is available for anyone and everyone who wants/needs to borrow an iron

....but my brand new FHI Platform is resting well, UNTOUCHED, hidden in my closet.

Yes, my daughters. There are cleaning sprays for electric hair tools. I can't remember the name, but I know people who use them.

I started a thread about this last year when I first joined the board. I had a neighbor ask to borrow my flat-iron one time. Well we hung out a few times so I said yes. BIG MISTAKE. She not only took forever to give me back my iron...she brought it back nasty and had the coating coming off! She used it on her dirty weave...she must've used it everyday for it to be nasty like that. She had the nerve to ask me if she could buy them from me. At first I said no...then I went ahead and told her that she could have them. I bought myself a new pair.

I will NEVER let someone borrow my "active rotation" hair stuff again. I have a box of old hair appliances that I will lend instead.

I let my God sister use my flat iron and it took forever to get it back :perplexed. When I did get it back it wasn't in the condition it was when I let her use it. So, I had to buy a new one.

Only my mom/bestfriend.

My old roomie stayed eye ballin' my CHI.She would wash her hair once every 3 months and grease up her weave and have the nerve to eye ball my stuff.OH NO MA'AM!Better go for what cha know and stick to that raggedy hot tools iron.

And as far as "borrowing" people don't know what that is.When they say borrow they mean "can I keep your flat iron for oh---lets say 6 months and give it back to you caked up with dirt, small animals, and grease?" OH NO MA'AM YOU WILL NOT!Better carry your behind to the BBS and get a gold n hot.

If ya don't like it kick rocks and buy ya own, potna.

I've always shared flatirons with my sister, but when I invest in a new SEDU, CHI or FHI in the near future, I won't be sharing that with anybody!
I'll still let her use my blowdryer though, lol.

what?! I would have been embarrassed to give it back to you in that condition.

Neighbors? ummmm....NO. :look:

Small Hijack...I LOVE my Andis...you went from an Andis to a Sedu? I may have to get a Sedu...

The Andis was a cool iron for the low-low. But the Sedu...it's the truth. I really like the smooth plates and the fact that I don't have to keep going over and over my hair with it. One swipe does it, two for perfection.

Honestly, I only let close friends use my flat iron, you can't take it out of my house. I clean it with alcohol after each use

N to the O; NO

First off no one takes care of my things like ME! Second I clean it after each use and I am gentle. 3rd if you need to borrow it, most likely you can't afford to replace it so NO. Because if you drop it, scratch it when you clean it or F it up, SOrry won't give me back a $250 iron; My bad won't replace it, Oops won't get the money back in my pockets, and I didn't do it won't stop me from wanting to take that hot iron and put your eye lids in it. SO There for NO!

No - under no circumstances, and I can't think of anyone of my friends that flat irons their hair that doesn't have one, especially aftr telling them they are on sale at BJ's a bit less expensive. I gave my daughter my "starter" flat iron, the $15.99 Conair from Walmart and she had the nerve to have it in her bathroom one morning! I don't like to look for my things when I need them!

only one person, my cousin who is natural. she washes a lot, so i know her hair is not gunky. everyone else can kick rocks. i would let people borrow my cheap irons and it'd come back with that burnt smell. them *****s had been turning my iron all the way to the highest temp! now i have a chi, and i plan on getting a ghd. no one is using them except for me. my cousin has her own ghd.
