I was wondering if some of you stop taking growth vitamins and using growth products on your hair while in braids.

I just paid $190 for micros and I am thinking about not taking any of the vitamins because I don't want to feel like I am throwing my money away.

What do you all think?

I hear you, but...You got the braids to protect your hair while your hair grows, right? Doesn't make sense to stop using growth aids unless they are causing buildup.

I don't take vitamins for my hair. I take vitamins for my total health, in other words a regular multi, so I'd not stop taking it unless I was eating uber healthy so I was sure I didn't need to supplement my diet with anything. I would not stop a healthy habit for the sake of saving money and retarding my growth. You may just end up losing hair because you never know just what nourishment your hair was getting from the vitamins without which it would just get unhealthy, break or worst of all, fall off...forget about slowing down its growth.

And that's why I like to do my own hair. It does feel like money wasted BUT on the other hand your hair growing fast is a very good thing even if you have to redo it more often.
You have to ask yourself...keep taking vitamins and get the growth ASAP or enjoy the braids and the money you paid for them and stop the vitamins. I would get the growth ASAP.

How would you be throwing away money? In my opinion being in braids is the best time to take vitamins and growth aids as you aren't touching your hair and when you take out your braids you are just so excited at all the growth! HTH

What if the vitamins were doing more than just making her hair grow fast. What if they were just providing the minimum nutrients her hair needed to be healthy?

I have a friend who was losing hair and I recommended "Great Hair by Vitol". She came to see me the other day just to tell me that not only did her hair stop falling off, but her whole body feels so much better. The touch of flu she had is gone and she's full of energy. She got her BF on the same supplement and he's no longer feeling like he's got a bug. I say don't stop taking something that is healthy for you for the sake of saving money.

^^^^That is something that will have to be figured out. If it's doing more than helping with hair then definitely don't stop but if all you see is your hair improving and you want to stop then I don't see why not. Not really working with doctors it's hard to know what is exactly contributing to what...lol. I do agree with you though...Brewers' Yeast and sea kelp have helped more than my hair.

Thanks for the responses! I am not talking about stopping my normal daily vitamins, I am just talking about the ones I take for my hair ie., MSM, biotin, silica....
And I know this is the best time to grow however, the place I go to charges $90 for touching up braids. And it has only been two weeks and the front is already growing out.
I guess I was just wanting some opinions. Thanks yall!

:giggle: I'm glad I'm not the one being the guinea pig here.

Here's a little something on hair vitamins (or vitamins in general as I prefer complete vitamins not just for hair):

A Recap of Hair Vitamins Effect and the Benefits of Hair Growth Vitamins

Vitamins are very useful for all people, and the benefits of vitamins to our bodies and our hair are tenfold. They make each part of our body healthier and our body as a whole stronger. Here we talk about hair and hair vitamins effect. The effect that a lack of vitamins has on our hair can be devastating. There are vitamins that reduce the loss of hair, so there is no reason to neglect vitamins and this piece as well.

Vitamins are surely very useful components for our organism. Scientists and researchers confirmed this idea long ago and even a baby is acquainted with it now. Not all vitamins are well known to scientists: some of them have unknown effect, others are not decided to be vitamins, just really useful substances.

But the fact is that if your organism lacks just two milligrams of any vitamin you are probably near to death and surely feel awful. The reason is that vitamins are active participants of the metabolic processes. So your cells and organs do not get enough useful elements and energy for working their best. On the other hand too much vitamins is bad for a person's health as well and there was actually a person who died because there was too much vitamin A in his body. So vitamins - it is really serious.

The first symptom of the vitamin lack is the sad condition of hair, skin and nails. Many of vitamins like riboflavin and retinol influence the condition of skin a lot. In fact there is a trick of the nature with hair. When there is a lack of vitamins in the organism and some significant regions of the body do not get enough useful vitamins, the body has to throw away those organs that are not significant from "its point of view" - first of all hair. Then the body has some "spare" blood flow and useful substances that can be lead to important part of the body. That is why it is so important to keep all the body fit, otherwise you will never get wonderful hair.

Hair vitamins effect still can be evidently seen when you not only take it with your food, but when you apply vitamins on your hair in forms of masks, balsams and shampoos. Hair vitamins effect can be different: shampoos and balsams can actually only make your hair surface healthier, for the stronger hair vitamins effect you need to keep them on your head skin and hair for at least half an hour. And moreover apply the method of treatments for at least half a year to get an evident hair vitamins effect.

There are some studies on hair vitamins effect, and they say there are hair growth vitamins and reducing hair falling vitamins. But in fact we would like to remind you that your look exactly the way your organism feels. Every aching region, any nervous situation and stress will affect your hair even faster than any vitamin. So the best hair vitamins effect can be received through a healthy way of life and good mood. Try to sleep no less and no more than seven or eight hours per day - actually not everything less than that, but what may seem to be strange, everything longer than that is the same harmful.

Try to manage your time and have regular and quality meal. Remember, that they say it is not so significant what you eat, but how you chew your food. So do not hurry. Let all the vitamins be absorbed by your organism and used properly. And be patient working on your hair - you are really not are going to get any evident effect in less than six months if you don't dedicate your efforts to regular work with your hair.

So, try to be patient and always be beautiful. Keep a smile on your face - laughter - is the key to inner balance!

I'm in braids often and I use it as a time to maximize my growth and retention. It's not wasting money because the braids are helping me do what I need them to do... protect my hair so I can retain my length. I still take flax oil, MSM, and my multi V while in braids as well as use Surge 14 spray once a day. If my braids last 8 weeks then I'm good. Micros can last up to 3 month. It's money well spent IMO.

I'm just the opposite, I am most consistent with my vitamins and my Bee Mine serum when I'm braided. But I do my own and keep my $190 in my pocket.

Flinstones Complete vitamins....when I'm braided I pop them like an addict!
