Is it true that if all of the hair care products that give great results cost an arm and a leg?

Cheap products give cheap results?

Hi raven i think it just depends on how the persons hair reacts to certain products. I have purchased expensive products that didn't work as well as some cheap products that didn't work. Ive seen tons of women on this board use cheap products and thier hair is beautiful. V05 and suave $1.00 make my hair feel nice. Ive tried nexxus humectress $20.00( where im at)and my hair hates it. Imo its what your hair likes not how much it costs.

I don't like to use cheap products on my hair. They don't seem to do anything but coat my hair. I need quality ingredients! I think you really do get what you pay for.

I go by quality not $$$
I use Suave conditioner and it gives me the slip I need. I tried a $19 DevaCurl One conditioner and although it was nice, it gave me the same results. So why should I pay more?
I bought a bottle of KCCC and KCKT and although it was nice and smelled good... it still can't beat the same results I get from my $2 bottle of Ecostyler.

The only thing I won't/can't do is use DC's and conditioners that I know contain mineral oil. Especially if they're $56 a bottle (Miss Jessie's)

for me, it's about ingredients. no more sls poos and mineral oil. i recently transitioned over to more natural/organic products and my hair has been thriving. now, of course, these ingredients don't affect some people but my hair doesn't like them. i'll gladly come out of the pocket for good ingredients that work.

I believe it's quality, not cost. The 'you get what you pay for' idea is bullcrap to me.
A $500 bottle of mineral oil isn't going to help my hair. But a $5 jar of coconut oil will.

Cheapie conditioners like suave and vo5 are great for me for cowashing and sometimes for prepooing.

Natural oils with no filler/carrier oils are also great for my hair, and cost very little.

I say check the ingredient listing before you check the cost. Quality matters.

I think it depends - might get same results from cheap products BUT for me, im paranoid, and think about long term effects - meaning, it SEEMS to work as well but since the ingredients are cheaper, will my hair actually be in less than healthy condition a year from now? will my ends not be as thick? even if the conditioner/product wont 'harm' my hair, its also not HELPING my hair as much as say using joico (w/a low ph and human keratin) once a week......like by using the cheaper ones, am i missing out...but thats just me....

I agree. Forget about price (although that is important also.) Just because something costs you and arm and a leg, doesn't mean it's the best product in the world. It could still be full of mineral oil, pertroleum, or just doesn't work for your hair. Why pay $50 for something that doesn't work for you? Just so you can go around saying I use "such and such" product that cost $$$$ amount?

Also, just because it's cheap doesn't mean it's crap (although there are some out there that are.) You definitley need to see what works best for you. I've used expensive conditoners, but my hair is in love with Suave's Milk and Honey conditioner. I'm a product junkie and have used alot of differenct conditoners, but for some reason I just can't recreate the way that conditioner makes my hair feel with any other product.

It's also important to know HOW to use the products as well. You have the know what amount of something works best for your hair. Too much may make your hair sticky- it doesn't mean it's not a good product, it just means you're not using the right amount, etc.

Hope that helps!

ITA I mean Ill spend money on a good product but if i find something cheaper that gives me the same long term results why continue to use the more expensive product? (GVP products for example:love:)

Usually Ill go really cheap for CO washes because half of the bottle goes down the drain anyway and I cant see myself paying for something like Aveda to use for co washing.

You took the words right out of my mouth! Exactly how I feel.

I use cheap conditioners with great results such as Daily Defense Tender Apple Conditioner.
This product provides great slip and moisture and deltangles the hair like a dream, sometime I think it works better than my expensive conditioners.
It's discontinued and I stocked pile 300 bottles because its CHEAP and very EFFECTIVE.
I also agree that it depends on how the hair reacts to certain products expensive or cheap.

I think it's easy to equate quality with cost, yet these two concepts are completely different. I think it's also easy to forget there is a difference between immediate and long term results. I look for quality ingredients with the active and/or most imporant ingredients in the proper proportions. The long term results are what matter most, and with most natural ingredients, one must use a product for a time to gain the desired results; however, while products that have a number of synthetic ingredients may give immediate results, the question is how will those chemicals impact your hair and quite possibly your health over time.

The quality of the products is more important than the cost, yet often, not always, but often, quality costs more. However, there are a number of inexpensive hair products that have quality ingredients, J/A/S/O/N or TJ Nourish Spa, for example, and these products will give quality results over the long haul. Not having a large budget does not mean one cannot have healthy hair, but the focus should not be price but quality. And we must be fair, what is expensive to one person is not so to another.

Since the beginning of my hair journey, I have purchased "cheap" products (VO5, Suave, Motions) to see if they would work for my hair...well they work just fine for me, so why pay more??

It depends on what result I am looking for. I just bought a $25 flat iron. It may not be the best, but I really liked that it left texture in my hair. Now, if someone is seeking to have relaxer-straight hair, they would probably be better off investing in a more expensive flat-iron.

I also tend to stick to use natural products for everything but my conditioners. However, I wash all of my conditioners out, whether during co-washes or deep conditioning. I figure my hair is just absorbing what it needs anyhow. What it didn't need is getting washed down the drain. Why pay more for what's getting washed down the drain?

Sometimes, I wonder how many of us used expensive products before LHCF, thinking it did our hair good, only to find a cheap product that did a great job?

I agree with BlessedandLucky. It's all about the ingredients.

I just retrurned $40 worth of merchandise (shampoo and conditioner) because I thought it would be better because it costs more. My hair hated them.

I use the Elasta QP creme conditioning shampoo which costs only $2.99 with no SLS, ph-balanced and no parabens. I'm sticking with that.

I don't know why I keep trying to replace it. I'm going to stop looking for ways to spend $$$ when I don't need to.

The only difference I have found between cheap and expensive products is how much you have to use. You tend to have to use more product with cheap products and less with more expensive. In my opinion, the cost of the product tells you nothing about how it will work for your hair.

for me its about whats in the product. i used bed head moisture maniac and it sucked. but i should have known better because my hair likes products that contain alot of natural ingrediants. this product didnt have any oils in it from what i remember.

i can use a cheap product as long as its mostly natural. it just so happens that many of my products are high end.
