I finally got my FHI runway - and did not pay 450.00.... heck no...

Pibbs
and
Steamer

I am GOOD for a long time....

How are y'all doing with your "essentials"????

::jealous:: I saved up then set aside $2000 to basically have a little salon in my bedroom. I visualized my Pibbs, my steamer, my Sedu Rev and I was going to buy the Joico and Aveda product lines that I wanted to try. Then the economoy started bleeding jobs and I'm so afraid to spend! I've never been this financially concerned in my life.
For now, I'm sticking with my heat cap, turbie towels, and my old corioliss flat iron.

Congrats to you though!

I'm still a baby at this :babyb:. The tools I have are my thermal heat cap and a hood dryer. Oh yeah and an electric pressing comb that I'm afraid of. It has no heat setting just on and off . I really don't know what I need as far as tools. I've been thinking about the steamer but haven't tried a steam treatment so I don't know first hand the great results everyone raves about. Does perm rods count as tools? What else would/could I need? Educate me big sis!

I WISH i had room in my bedroom or extra space for a salon - that sounds wonderful  but yeah, this economy is scary. still i will tell you this - heat cap and turby towel are great BUT YOU REALLY CANT skimp on a flatiron - the health of ur hair depends on it. It your flatiron isnt worth a retail value of $100 or more (even though you can get it on sale for cheaper, we are talking RETAIL), then you need another one. The results might SEEM as good as a more expensive iron, but in the long run, it will be more damaging than a more expensive one for various reasons - uneven heating, rough plates, not enough ceramic, snagging, needing more 'passes' - etc. just my 2 cents....

ETA - by the way - even the OLD maxiglide (around $80) isnt that great. I LOVED IT and the plates were so big and it was so easy to use BUT i didnt like the results without the teeth and with the teeth it ripped out my hair. plus it REALLY dried up and damaged my ends even though i was using a heat protectant. not sure how the new and improved one is......

HEY mama!

You are fine with what you have!!! It took me a looooong time to figure out exactly what I needed. I have a lot of JUNK that I need to unload. Some stuff is GREAT - and other stuff... Not for me....

Yes - Perm rods are tools! :yep:

I totally agree.... Now that I have the FHi - I don't have to fool around with the others.

I got a steamer - because I had a little extra money. Other wise - I would not have purchased.

i have:
a CHI
a FHI
a hooded dryer
a heat cap
a hand held dryer

i want a steamer but i am concerned about the water dripping i keep hearing about and there have been so many house fires around here lately im afraid to buy anything else that has to be plugged in. and i dont want to spend no more money.

Just to comment on this.... I bought the New Maxiglide.... and after ONE use - the coating came off the plate... I was VERY unhappy.:sad:

So - IMO - I have already spent 500.00 on my way to this FHI ( 2 MaxiGlides, A solia, and a Sedu)
This is the last Flat iron. If I cannot get the results I want - then I am nappy. Forget it.

ooooh!!! I must know where you purchased that FHI from ms. samanthajones!
I had all the flatirons u had too, except the solia. I'm hoping the FHI will be the one that buckles my knees. My old maxiglide is O.K a times.

I purchased a Sensu flat iron, it was manufactured in Japan and so far I loved it. And it "buckled my knees" at how perfect my hair came out. And it was under $50. It has tourmaline plates and goes up to 430 degrees fahrenheit and got hot quick. The pamplet says its ready in less than 10 seconds, I didn't time it but it was fast. There's a picture of it on my post "Japanese Flat iron.......love it!

Amazon.
It is not 271 anymore. It is 399.00
:perplexed:perplexed:perplexed

I tried errrrthang... So I decided to not purchase one again. the FHI is the last one forever.

I own none of those products :( But I do have a really good Conair infiniti blow dryer!

That is ok.. It took me 2 years to accumulate all this "salon quality" stuff. One day - I will get my own "room"
You can't buy all this stuff over night. You will go BROKE.

DH is ok with this stuff - because he knows I do everything my self... ( even Waxing!!)

I get my nails done - and my brows threaded. I do everything else myself. and I do my friends and my mom's hair.:yep:

Since I've been a rollersetting fool lately, I've added 3 different types of setting lotions and foams (experimenting) and 3 packs of grey rollers and duckbill clips to my collection. I've ordered a stand-up dryer (very much like the Pibbs w/out the price tag and recommended by SAL). I've also replaced my maxiglide after dropping my old one and breaking :( . I am DONE when it comes to buying anymore hair appliances.

SJ did you get the Pibbs steamer too?

I have yet to call the lady at Ibbe back about the differences between certain steamers. I've been so busy during their working hours, but I'll make sure and do it tomorrow.

Let's see...

I now have:
Pibbs 514
Professional Shears

In the market for/will purchase within the month:
FHI Runway (d@mn Amazon for jacking the price back up.)
FHI Nano 2000 blow dryer
Steamer (brand= either Paragon 80ES, Pibbs 132, or B&S Yameilli)

Both lists are short, but I think that's everything.

no. I have a Pibbs dryer. I have the table top steamer.... amazon. 109 bucks.

I'm pretty happy with my tools so far.

Pibbs dryer
FHI Platform, which I sold
Maxiglide MP & miniglide
Sabino Moisture Block
Conair 1875 blow dryer (which I rarely use)
Revlon caramic hot air styler (rarely used)
magnetic rollers in a few sizes
mesh rollers w/ pins
duck bill clips
tons of conditioner, leave-in, heat protectant ....enough to open a beauty salon lol lol lol

Now all I need is a steamer but I really have no place to keep the standing version. Maybe a table top?

I have a few stuff left for my completion but for now I am set.

I use my own range of natural hair care products so I am ok from that point of view

I love my babyliss hood hair dryer- so I am set.

Pro select 100% ceramic flat iron - get my hair good straight at 275 and I am natural.

Curlformers on its way for natural hair rollerset

salon type bloww dryer almost 2000W - hardly use

2 other thngs left

steamer - money saved for this is currently going into electric mixer for my business

I will like to have maxiglide MP kit - current issue HSN does not accept international orders, but I am currently examining ways around this.

Congrats SJ, you got a nice beauty salon going there. I've always dreamed of a room in my house where I can have all of my hair products & appliances.

I'm lacking in all of the right tools except for my bonnet dryer.
I have a lower end FHI that doesn't do much for me. :ohwell: Are you taking appointments? :look:
