Yeah, I'm scratching my head at this one. WHy relax with very little new growth? What are you relaxing? She must be terribly underprocessed or have a million different textures in her head.

I am very confused!!!!!:perplexed She said she just slap the perm on the outside of the braid on her nappy roots but what about the nappy roots on the inside? Do they get any love too? You should ask her if she gets any breakage.

Wow. :nono:

Hopefully someday she will learn healthy hair care practices.... but for now she's lucky to have more than ten strands on her head. :nono:

its funny i came across this post because after my first self-relaxing experience, i decided that i will do 6 big braids prior to relaxing my hair but, instead of relaxing it with the braids in (which i have never heard of till this post), i will unravel one braid at a time and slap relaxer on it. because, it was hard to do with all my hair out and all that new growth and trying to untangle it all in the same setting. I've also decided to put the braids in the night before relaxing.
I've heard it done in this fashion, just not in cornrows though.
Thats hillarious!!!!!!!!!!!:lachen::lachen:

and crazy! How was her hair? healthy? jacked?
Healthy? Nope! Jacked? Yep! See my other responses below.

So how does she get relaxer to the hair that is inside the braid? Homegirl is on some other stuff.
No clue, all I know is she put the relaxer on the outside of the braid.

There was a poster here who texturized her natural hair while in twists to hold the curl pattern. I've heard of people putting perm on their roots while in braids but I wouldn't do it. But I guess whatever floats your boat. OP, what does your friend's hair look like?
My friend's hair is fine, it's her friend's hair where the problem lies. Well her hair is like bone-straight, even the roots on top of her head, just the back has a lil bit of NG, but not enough to warrant getting a relaxer so soon. She also had a ton of breakage all through out her hair. She's NL and has a bunch of 1-2 inch strands through out her head. The length of her hair is very thin, but yet I was able to braid it all into the braids.

... she need some help.. how was her hair though when you were braiding it? was it healthy?
that is what I wanted to know. while braiding her hair did you notice any signs of damage, weakness, lots of breakage, or anything?
Both posts above--No it wasn't healthy, but she knew about the breakage already and said she was trying to grow her hair. Hence, why the reason I originally thought she wanted the braids.

I've never heard of this, and for the life of me, I can't figure out how the braids would help in the perming process. All that new growth underneath the braids not being touched by the relaxer, and the tension of the braids on the scalp...oh my!!! I'd like to see the results from that one.
The braids weren't tight at all, she asked me to not do them tight as she's very tenderheaded she said.

No underprocessed areas at all, at least none I've seen. It was pretty easy to get a comb through her hair with no problems whatsoever.

Ummmm.....no.

Does she appear to have relaxed hair when you braided it?
Yep bone straight with alot of breakage.

Oh she definitely has alot of breakage indeed, so many short strands that's not even close to being NL like some of the rest of her hair is.

Wow. :nono:
