Is it bad to seal moisturised soaking wet hair?

Its just that I've been looking at a few people's regimens and noticed that some wait until their moisturised hair is 80% dry (Supergirl & Serenity Breeze), while others may not.

I can see arguments for both
Waiting to seal hair that is 80% dry - allows hair to soak up all the moisture witout being obliterated by the oil.

Sealing moisturised soaking wet hair - allows all the moisture you've just applied to be completely sealed in and doesn't allow hair to dry out.

Please vote and also let me know what your reasons are. I don't want to run into anymore setbacks!!!!! 2009 must be setback free.

My hair is damp, I'd say about 50-75% wet when I put my oil on it. Not soaking wet and dripping, but enough water so that the oil slides on easily.

I do it that way because I use only water as my moisturizer so I like to make sure that my hair gets enough of it before I add the oil. If my hair isn't moisturized enough first, then the oil will just make my dry hair greasy and it doesn't seem to absorb as well.

Thanks msa, I am always learning from you! 50% wet sounds good to me - a happy medium. I was beginning to think that perhaps the oil I apply to my soaking moisturised hair, is displacing the moisturiser and will eventually lead to breakage. I can do without anymore breakage!

My hair dries much softer when moisture and sealant is applied when the hair is about 80% dry. If applied on soaking hair it come out feeling rough.

I moisturize while my hair is still wet as well as seal when my hair is wet. (After squeezing out excess water, so my hair is about 85% wet) It's easier for me to distribute to all of my hair, and my hair always comes out feeling silky smooth after my 2 braids have air dried.

Really??? That is sooo good to know!!!! The kindergarten kids in my church are always saying how my hair feels 'hard' and I was using a lot of moisturisers (long story). So this could be the reason. Thank you so much

No, I haven't had any breakage from moisturizing and sealing my hair this way. I've tried it both ways and always gotten better results handling my hair when wet because once it air dries without being contained in braids, I can't even get my fingers through to moisturize .

Those of you that seal hair after it is somewhat dry....Do you rollerset?....I'm a newbie and this sounds like a great idea but I always feel forced to seal right after I moisturize so that I can then do a sopping wet roller set... (thanks to OP for this thread...I had been wondering why my sealing hadn't been getting my hair as moisturized as it should)....

It was a pleasant suprise last night...I feel so much better about my journey now.

I don't know if you call this sealing, but for the first time, I used my Nacidit leave in conditioner on 85% damp hair and then on top of that I used Mizani sparadiance glossing serum, and I roller set my hair. The results are absolutly beautiful. I have never done a roller set without setting lotion. This was my first time and right now, this is the only way I want to do them from now on. My hair came out soo soft and shiney. So, would you call that sealing?

I squeeze off any excess water in my hair and then apply my leave in and seal. Whatever works for you though. If one technique helps you retain more moisture then go for it!

I have tried either way, does not make much of a difference to me. I voted 80% dry because I don't like dripping wet oily hair

This is good to know. Mine can be quite thick and I can see myself having the same problem!

Yes I would call that sealing. The serum is sealing in your leave-in conditioner! I miss rollersets!!

So you mix yours together? That sounds like it would cut back on time. But how have you found doing this over time?

Well it really depends on your hair type. If you have thick hair that can stand a large amount of products without being weighed down, then yes, sealing wet hair is beneficial. However, being a fine-haired girl, I have learned that sealing with oil, no matter the type of oil, weighs down my hair so that it airdries a thin wispy mess. I've used camellia seed oil, castor oil, coconut oil, aloe vera oil, and coconut oil to seal my wet hair. However, when I plainly apply my moisturizers to my hair (keeping in mind that I only use a small amount) my hair dries thick. So yeah it depends.

I'm not sure health wise but my texlaxed hair is easier to manipulate almost dry as opposed to wet and I can better account for the amount of products I apply.

My hair dries better if I moisturize when it's sopping wet, then seal while it's still pretty wet. If it's close to bedtime I use a little extra coconut oil bun and head for bed once I'm about 80% dry.
