My 13yr old Men
EVERYTHING! I do appreciate the experience but DANG. I have no sallys, CVS, Target, Walmart (we do have Kmart but that aint saying much) Publix. Any and almost everything I hear about on the board I have to order online or get someone to send it to me and then I got to wait......and wait.........and wait. And sometimes I call and ask my mom did she send it and she is like dang it I forgot and then I wait and wait. I just got some rose water that I asked for in Sept!

I know the UK and Candian girls are going to bight my head off BUT I am use to just getting in my truck and rolling to the nearst Trade Secret. If you never had it you cant iss it.

Sorry I just had to vent. That s all. Thank you for listening.

Girl when I was in Kuwait I hated calling asking for stuff because it would take forever to send! I would ask for simple stuff like cheetos (because the PX would run out) and it was the next month before I got them!

I know the feeling. After I got comfortable, I made my way downtown and started finding specials on the local economy.

It's amazing but the local grocery stores carried things (oils, conditioners, etc) that made my shopping trips so much fun.

I can relate to this. Im in the states [for now] but Im going back overseas [southeast asia] in a month or two...and it does indeed suck.

I hate reading about products and wishing I had them in the shopping centers over there. Its extremely hard when you're not in the military/service. On base, they at least have some products that Im familiar with. To top it off..when I do find the products they're ridiculously priced! And lets not forget about the shipping...ugh!

I cant wait to move the states for good.

I'm in Iraq now and this bugs the crap out of me. I'm like a kid waiting for Christmas! But I've found beautyofnewyork.com and they ship fast, so I can deal with it now. But when I got my Pibbs, I had to have it shipped home, then my mom reshipped it to me. It was about 3 weeks and I was on edge the whole time!

I miss going to my local BSS (there were millions near Fort Hood, TX) and buying whatever I needed at the moment.

Italy has nada for AA hair it seems.

I get everything online, if I can't get it from my local PX. It is really annoying.

although i'm in the states right now...like last time, b4 i leave back to saudi arabia, i'll have to go out and buy my hair stuff, i don't think i'll do a duffle bag of hair like last time, but i will take plenty of braiding hair. i too hate not having a store to go to. it sucks alot. when i order, i have to send my stuff through a mail forwarding address which my hubby pays for ontop of that the shipping costs. only because the air force (we're not in the af (hubby is a contractor) will return to sender!

i know i have gotten stuff through w/o it being returned and the wait is long...b4 they started sending dh and ALL the other guys a warning letter about anything over 16oz...they threaten to stop us from getting mail (b/c of me:look:)...so dh op'd otherwise

i don't wait long to get my stuff when i order. so if anyone wants to
know how i forward my purchases w/o the longgggg *** wait...pm me and i'll direct you and you can look and see if mail forwarding is something you want to invest in. y'all i use my mf so much that i even gotten 6 boxes of grits/ 6boxes of cream of wheat...son't play it was this past summer and yes my preggo self want some hot cereal that seams to not sell in the stores...grits...you can find it if they order them but they order the grits that come in pouches...i needed the canisters! oh, um i shop on amazon -...soooo uh, that's all ima say, i'm guilty!

Well I too live in Japan (non-military). And initially I missed everything. Would order stuff weekly. Then they STOPPED surface mail and just couldn't bring myself to pay so much for shipping. So I learned how to use more natural products and order from vendors that have cheap shipping like iherb.com. I've also found that my hair does well w/ the Japanese brand condish. And I LOVE their Pantene over here. So all in all, the experience has been quite (+) for me after I learned to adapt. But trust last summer when I went to USA for 8wks, I stocked up something SERIOUS!!! LOL

Yesss...I hate the fact that I have to order stuff online. I'm at Osan right now and our BX does have some stuff, but I'm interested in using all-natural stuff now which of course they don't have. I ordered some Beauty 4 ashes shampoo and conditioner like 2 months ago and my mom still hasn't shipped it to me even though she works at the friggin' post office:wallbash:! I'll be going to Italy for 3 years after I leave here so I'm just doomed:whyme:

Thanks for listening to me have my moment. I am better now. I went to the grocery store in town and they had some decent products, I even bought some organic herbal detangling conditioner.

here are the ingedients:purified water, certified organic herbal extracts of Marigold, chamomille, aloe vera and lemon grass. biotin, coconut wax, palm, vitamin e, green tea, grapefruit seed extract and fragrance.

Sounds good to me and it smells like soft vanilla (not a strong scent).:lick:

I AM HAPPY FOR NOW:yep:

My hubby wants to go to Japan after here (guam)

Yes I am British and it must be annoying for you. I have to order quite a few things online, though we don't have too bad a selection, but obviously not on the scale of the US. But other parts of Europe are worse.

But it does help you find local stuff that is just as good. I too, have started using a lot of natural products which IMO are much richer anyway.
Also, ordering online, means you don't have to go anywhere! It comes right to your door.

I am British liveing in the US. I have this problem from another side - FOOD!!! I cant get anything i need. I am home for the holidays and back to the US in 2 days, one suitcase is full of food.
But its great that I can get all my hair stuff though...
Sorry for the ladies that have to leave the US...

But TemiLnd, why can't you get food in the US???? You're so lucky to be there for all your hair stuff!

Southern- Japan rocks and I'm pretty sure it is good for military ppl too..come on over!

ooop-Glad to see you're still here...going to Kobe in April/May with SO to see his sister..we should do coffee!

As for what I miss?
A lot I can buy online, but shipping is killer. I try to go to Costco (everywhere in the world..maybe Guam too?) and buy stuff like Gain, dryer sheets, etc...but I've become accustomed to using Japanese stuff. Sometimes I find out local (or international) is better than American.

Before coming to Japan, I was all about some American cars--and now I'm like Asian cars forever baby! (No problems thus far out of my 1994 Nissan!!)

But I think I mostly miss clothes, family, friends, and restaurants. When I went home this summer, I tried to eat up some Zaxbys, Pappadeauxs, Chickfila, and Red Lobster...only to find that a lot of it wasn't as good as I remember it to be.

Now clothes? Japan has the best best best fashion---if you're a size 6. Once I lose weight, I think I will be a lot happier here.

And after living in Japan for 3yrs, the portions back home this summer about killed me. Would ask for a doggy bag even before my fork hit my plate.

Now clothes? Japan has the best best best fashion---if you're a size 6. Once I lose weight, I think I will be a lot happier here. See I TOTALLY hate fashion here. Too much mix-matching for me. Jean shorts w/ fur around the edges, a plaid shirt, purple down jacket, lace boots with knee high socks, just aint my style. But maybe fashion is better where you are...

Interesting to hear everyones perspective...

Guam is a territory of the USA so I guess I do have it a little better then some. We have Fridays, Outback, Ruby Tuesdays, Wendys, MCDonalds, Burger King, Pizza Hut, and on base we have Taco Bell Dominos. But as for Hair care I dont see pantene relaxed and Natural or any of the other 100 items listed. i am sorry for my rant but I was just having a moment.
I am over it. I do love it here, we have summer 24/7!

i know the feeling. i lived in Germany as a kid for 3 years, lived in Japan for 2 years, and have been in Korea almost a year. i go home like once a year. but when i do i stock up some stuff. thank goodness for vitacost with their flat rate shipping. and yes the waiting time for mail is ri-damn-diculous. and the outrageous shipping charges! i just laugh at the people on here who complain about waiting a whole week or even 2 weeks to get a package  i'm like try waiting up to 2 months for a small box to get to you.

i did like the tsubaki oil i would buy in Japan. it was lovely. i didn't try any of the other hair products

We don't have any of that stuff either...not even Kmart...nothin. It gets kinda frustrating when i "read" all the ladies loving a product and i can't even find it!:wallbash: I use to order it online, but it gets expensive. Now i just do with what i got locally, which is a bunch of caca, most of the time.:nono: I can sometimes find some decent products. My main stays are Organics, VO5, and Garnier. The other stuff is the products filled with mineral oil and petroleum.
If i know someone going over to the US i let them pick me up some things.

.
i have found a lot of UK based site to order from  thanks goodness for the inernet.

Wow i never thought about it like that. Its true you dont realize what your missing until its gone!!

Im stationed in TX, but i wish i was overseas...Anyone want to trade orders? :drunk:

:wallbash: I LOOVE Outback!!! Dammit! I wish we had one here. I'm so jealous right now. Other than that, I tear up some Taco Bell. I'm on my way out of the door right now for a chicken kwasedilla

When I first got here, I did miss alot of stuff. Food, hair stuff, food, Walmart!! (Lord I miss Walmart). The shipping costs for anything to here from the US are absolutely ridiculous. So the last time I was in the States, I shipped myself two humongous boxes of hair products-which was cheaper than ordering online. Sometimes, I have friends send me things, but I have to be careful with that too. I had a friend mail me something, and they insured it. Big mistake! I had to pay sales tax on on the valuation (Danish tax is 25%) and they charged me a fee for them to calculate the taxes. :wallbash:

But once I got used to things, and started getting out more I've been able to find more things locally and the UK is heaven! Even with shipping it's cheaper sometimes than buying locally and I get exactly what I want. Sorry for the ramble lol, but I was mad about paying them taxes.
