...if so,how? I'm thinkn of trying it to increase volume:look:,but had a terrible experience some years ago...made my hair super dry/tangled/knotted:perplexed..I heard that mixing it with a conditioner is keep the hair soft and tangle fre...is this true? What brand of Henna should I use? and where to purchase? your responses are greatly appreciated.

I started using henna shortly after I found LHCF, and my hair loves it :lick: and I am like 3a/b. It has stopped alot of my shedding, and gives it shine. And my hair just feels stronger. After researching through various henna threads, I purchased some Jamila from hennaforhair.com. It is 100% BAQ, the only kind to use on relaxed or hair previously dyed with commercial color. And I am relaxed and I had color on my hair. See my siggy. Also, I use curlynikki's recipe, found on her blog. BTW, I would not recommend using lemon juice, I did the first application and it was too drying, curlynikki uses green tea in its place.:yep: HTH!!

Your hair looks very nice and shiny:yep:...can I just mix the powder with a moisturizing conditioner and apply it?

Yes, but if you want the red tint then you should let the mixture sit for a couple of hours. My hair was dyed black before, so I only get a slight red glimmer, which I like. However, if you just want the strenghtening benefits then you can mix it and apply it immediately. And if I didn't say this before, mixing it with conditioner is a must for me for easy rinsing.

My exact reason for wanting to try it again:yep:...How long should I keep the mixture on? can i use heat? if so, how long under the dryer?

I have left mine own from anywhere between 2-4 hours, depending on how much time I had. I am not sure about using heat....:ohwell: HTH

Hello Friend,

I use Henna and I am relaxed as well. In the past I have used Jamila Henna (which is great) and also the Henna from www.Hennaforhair.com .....A good place to purchase as well. We have a member that sells henna products - Khadija Carryl and her website is hennasooq.com. She is very sweet and informative!

It has definitely strengthened my hair as well as added a lot of body. I mixed mine with Lustrasilk Mango/Shea butter and Redken All Soft, left it on overnight - rinsed, conditioned and rollerset/wrap

ETA: I also sit under a heating cap with it if I don't do the overnight thing

Your hair looks very healthy:yep:...How long are you sitting under the dryer? Are u mixing just the henna powder and your conditioner? Is your hair hard afterwards?

Thanks PV!!!

The picture in my siggy was done right after Henna. I used Lavandar2's Fotki as my guide for Henna gloss...I forgot to add that mix the Henna with about a cup of water after the color releases (overnight approx 12 hours) I then put in the conditioner(s) and it will have a real creamy texture - like chocolate pudding....

I will sit for about an hour or so....do some things around the house, get back under --all in all approx. 5-6 hours before I rinse. I also use a moisturizing condish that would normally be heavy on my hair any other time. The last time I henna'ed I used Redken All Soft Heavy Cream - it made my hair feel so soft and not weighed down...

HTH ...

hey i got 3C, and im relaxed. ive henna'd twice and my hair LOVES LOVES LOVES it!!! i also did a mean DC right after, then the following day again. i would highly recommend it. just be sure to do some serious DCing... lots of it.

I am sitting here with henna in my hair as I type and I will be sleeping with it in. I let mine cure for 15 hours or so and then apply and wrap with saran wrap and then a scarf. I will rinse tommorow and D/C. I am relaxed as well and about 8 weeks post.

Scribbles down notes :dork:

Somewhat off topic bump, but I'm a type 3 and texlaxed and interested in Henna. Can Henna be used over hair that has been texlaxed and colored? I attempted to dye my hair a few weeks ago and it didn't change my color at all, so I was wondering if it would be okay to use 100% natural henna on my hair over all those chemicals?

You can henna as long as it is BAQ(body art quality).

I use it on my relaxed mother...no probs at all. I do mix mine w/ conditioner and never add acids of any sort. I make a looser textured henna in order that it doesn't dry out on the head to avoid prolonging the rinsing stage. With her, I simply schedule is at least 2 weeks before or after any relaxer to avoid an scalp irritation.

If you're relaxed, the last thing you need is acid! A good mix will reduce manipulation during the rinsing....therefore tangling issues.

I'm relaxed and have been mixing mine with apple cider vinegar. Is that a no-no because I seem to have increased shedding and roughness to my hair?
