I want to cut my hair in a Rihanna-type haircut...

but I don't know where to begin. I thought about this for a while. I've always wanted to have my hair short like that so I thought If not now then when. I postponed my transition to do it. Now where do I start? I need good stylist recommendations (since I'm sure I can't afford Rihanna's hairstylist). I'm thinking Regis at the mall. Are they good at haircuts?

I suggest you bring pictures and after each snip, look in the mirror to make sure they are doing what you told them.

well I cut my hair in the Rihanna style, Keyshia Cole-ish style as my BC during my transition. I did it myself, everyone always ask me how I did it but I just know my hair and what looks good plus I was cutting off relaxed ends, so I just cut short in the back full and long at the top, short on the sides.......

Just take a deep breath and go for it. Take in several pictures of the style you want at different angles so that the stylist knows exactly what you want. Shop around as well....definitely get feedback from other clients and people with the style you want and ask them who cut their hair. Not every stylist can cut hair.

Also, make sure that if you switch between stylists to let them know how you want your cut maintained. I was EXTREMELY pissed when another woman cut the rest of my hair off in the back of my head without my permission because it was not a part of the style I wanted at all. I'm one step away from needing clippers, and it looks horrible. And I had just told her I got my hair cut off three weeks prior...ugh.

But anyways...I hope that you find someone to do it they way you want. Once you find someone to do it then go for it. Good luck!

Yup...even the lady who cut mine did it too short in the front and the back, but I knew she definitely had to cut the front a little more because it was damaged....now the back is a whole nother story...but she did a decent job. And now it's all gone in the back. I was so angry. I wanted it to look like Rihanna, not like Halle Berry in Boomerang with the bowl cut ...but it will grow back.

It's almost like when they see you have a short style they think it's ok to keep snipping every chance they get.

I love her hair in the pic! I agree with the ladies that you should take pictures of the style with you. Maybe shop around for one of the best stylists. It may cost more, but it will be worth it. All the best and please show us the fab cut when you are done!

This is the time to be as daring as you want without regretting it. I went from BSL to neck and I am contemplating cutting even shorter. My concerns are the heat I would have to use to maintain the style and how it would look as it grows out.

I cut my hair into the Rihanna in july. I had the same mentality that you do ...if not now when? So I say do it! However know that it takes more maintenace than the average haircut. Also please get recommendations from someone before going to a random stylist, even if they claim they can do it, its usually not the case. Have them show you pics of cuts they've done.That's the hottest cut on the market, if they're good, surely they should have done several cuts like that recently.

Also make sure that it will go with your features.
I only go to short hair stylists that I see did a wonderful job on another short haired girl. I rarely go to stylists that I walked in and asked if they can cut because, chances are they may not do what I want them to. Take pictures always, if this is your first time going.

To be sure that u like it, perhaps you should try a short weave like these first. you can see how if the weave is done properly no1 really has to knw a thing, then you can determine whether or not its the way to go. or just take the plunge and go snip snip, hair is hair. ive cut my own hair short soo many times. but i think im going to stick with short weaves now if i feel the need to change it up. btw my mum did these, shes owns a salon in south london, i let no1 else do my weaves.lol its free

Go for it! Make sure you get a stylist that specializes in cutting. Some say they can do it and mess you up. Learned from personal experience some years ago. I chopped all my hair off in sept to one of Rihanna's bob cuts. Not the umbrella cut though. Best thing i've ever done for my hair.

I have nothing to add. I'm sorry, but I couldn't pass without laughing at this.

Please check out the stylists before you do it! No one should be subjected to a cut like this.

Great place as to where to begin! Everyone here has such great input! I am like some of the other ladies, begin with a photo.

If you like Rhianna's cut, I think I have 1 better for you. Go on YouTube and type this name in the Search = Estelle. Her cut is awesome!!! Very close to Rhianna's and I think it will be a little more versatile for you!

It is always best to take a printed copy of a cut that you would like to have, because it gives your stylist a base as to where to begin with your cut.
