^^^^^ Yea I was very interested til I seen u had to pay then I was like I already have a paid membership from here. I shld be able to get all I need here.

I don't mind guys coming on here. Also Gay guys prolly like to keep their hair right too. So i wouldn't be shocked about it.

i like the idea of lhcf just being for women. while i'm aware that they are male lurkers and a few who've posted before, i still like to think of it as "the girls on forum"

I joined to learn what the difference between white, Black, hair is the beauty schools tell you they are teaching you how to do HAIR, you graduate and have black woman look at you and tell you can't do my hair. I get more respect here, I have learned some techniques or products fom this forum. I AM HAIRMASTER THE WHITE MALE.
:hiya:Hey neighbor!

I really respect that. A lot of White stylists shy away from doing Black hair because they don't know how to take care of it. I'm glad to see you're taking the effort to learn how.

Funny story, my sister actually had stylists hiding from her when she asked them to give my nephew a haircut. She asked them, and they all went into the back and finally, one came out and said, "We don't know how to do Black hair here." The funniest part is my nephew is half-white and is hair is either type 1 or 2.

Tkj is my fav too~

I know of at least five. I posted a thread on this in Off Topic before. The forum is open to all so everyone is welcomed. I think on the poll I did more women said they were fine with it.

My fav is tkj! I love watching his progress. I also enjoy post by Hairmaster. Of course you all know Nikos is here.

*I remember Blkmanwsense to Pat. I just never saw him post much after awhile.*

Nikos, hairmaster

Why should women be mad if men want to join? We post pictures of men with long hair and drool over them. If they share their regimens we can peep their growth secrets, right? If they have bra strap issues, it's not like a guy's never seen a bra strap.:lachen:Fotkis can be seen outside of LHCF.

So true......

Here is the thread in OT if anyone is interested at viewing it.

thank you

Who are the 7 people that voted "This option is only here coz it wont allow one poll???":lachen:

She put that there because you have to have a least two options for a poll lol!

lol.......i should have written "DO NOT USE"

I did not know men posted here. I think we have some topics that are very inappropriate for male company. I'm a little appalled now :-(

but dont forget it is a public forum....we only pay to be able to post on threads......

please dont be appalled....... i'm sure heaps of guys have been viewing....the only difference is you were not aware....that shouldnt stop you though........hth

Dude is in bad shape if he's peaking in here to see a bra strap with the stuff that is out there on the internet.

 Reminds me of when my little cousins thought they were doing something peaking at the women's underware in the Sears Catalog!

lol.....

....hey there....thanks for posting......

i live in australia and would love to go to ANY hairdresser but thats not ot be......i have to travel long distances just to get my hair washed and rollerset.....which is why i have learnt to do my own hair.......

thanks for making the effort.....:yep:

hi vnaps,

i'm a guy & i love hair. always have, always will.:grin::grin::grin:

like a lot of you, i've been trying " to grow some hair" most of my life:) ... and i've learned a lot in the process. i'm just happy to find a community of like-minded-hair-crazed individuals:):):)

now to answer your direct questions:

do you think non lhcf's dont u nderstand you and why you seek healthy hair????
i have been to, or a member of, a lot of sites. i love coming here because of the wealth of info on growing long, healthy afro textured hair. i love that this community is accepting & supportive of hair -- whether it be relaxed, natural or texturized; that it provides tools for achieving your goals whether you're a newbie or an old head; and that this site is a welcoming, friendly, open environment -- wherein new ideas, honest dialogue, & innovation are generated.

do you have the same issues as us ladies do in terms of hair care???
in a nutshell, yes. from trying to figure out a regime, finding products, techniques, supplements ... it's the same. but i do think there are some general differences:

guys feel pressure to keep their hair short, because in general, that is the accepted standard for masculinity in our society. (not that you can't find examples to the contrary, but close-cropped is the norm.) thankfully, i've come to a point in my life where i understand my hair doesn't define me or my masculinity -- i do.

guys have less pressure regarding beauty. we don't have to have hair that is coiffed to perfection, edges laid, eyebrows arched, legs-arms-bodies shaved, plucked or bleached. unfairly or not -- men aren't held to the same standards. we just have to be well-groomed for the occasion, (but a little bit of scruff/edge/grunginess is acceptable, & even encouraged.) if a woman steps out of this norm, her femininity is questioned.

as a result, some guys can get away with cornrows, grease & water and have hair that flourishes (i.e. appears to grow faster), because they don't have to do as much to have their hair be acceptable -- no need for weekly salon visits, rolling, wrapping, flat-ironing, perming ... basically a k.i.s.s. (keep it super simple) approach to hair care.

with hair care, i tend to fall inbetween the two extremes -- using twists, braiding, protective styles, but also allowing for hair indulgences like henna, pjism, hair vits, occasional flat-ironing, natural products ... :yep::yep::yep:

overall, with my hair, i'm just trying to see how long i can get it to grow (healthy, natural, waist length+) and having fun in the process. greatfully, i feel we are in the midst of a lot of these societal constrictions changing, expanding & growing -- and i'm glad to be a part of it.

tkj......yay!!!

i was really hoping to hear from you......you have made my day

i hope the other ladies who were sceptical about having guys on this forum are encouraged by your words........

highlighted above-----if only all guys felt the way you do......i am acquanted with guys who would not agree with you.......sad but true

i agree with you about the pressure of getting our (ladies) hair done which probably contributes to unhealthy hair practices......leading to breakage

thanks so much for sharing.......you are an inspiration :yep:

i can now lay this thread to rest... to be forgotten in the thread archives.....hoping for the search engine's to once again bring it forth to being useful once again.....

Some of your best hairdressers are MALES were would Oprah be without Audra.

You can definitely say that again and if I EVER start getting my hair done again, it will definitely be a male

Thanks for the input. Your hair is beautiful! I think anyone who can bebefit form the forum should be able to join and actively take part.

HHG!

I remember Macherieamor made a post in HT last year saying that men wanted to the join the forum... but some ladies had issues with men being in the forum because of bra strap pics, etc... There may be some men and they're just in hiding... OR they don't visit the forum half as much as we do!

I can imagine men lurking here... Especially, fathers raising their daughter without a female to help with her hair.

I don't understand why women would be scared or their bra straps showing...if these "men" are over 13 and have progressed to the point of not popping them (that was 7th grade for me lol) then what is the big deal? It's not like they are showing actual breasts. I would hope that the men visiting this forum have actually SEEN breasts.

OK, so there are 9 registered males here:
alb1nyc
BlkManWithSomeSense
D-Train
dimopoulos
Dwayne
hairmaster
M_BYRON_M
tkj25
Topher

But we all know anyone can lurk around here.

I don't see any problem with it, whether they are stylists, transgendered, transexual, gay or straight and just want to know how to grow and take care of long afro/relaxed hair for themselves or others.
The knowledge should be for everyone!

Man, if you're worried about 'pervs', I guess you'll have to quit with the semi naked/bra-strap pics or not post them anywhere on the internet at all.
But perverts come in the virtual world and the real world... semi naked or not!

brastraps should definitely be the least of our worries.. not only do most of us have DH/SO's that looks on with us at times, but um, come on, it's a bra strap. My point is men are looking anyways. The only difference with men on LHCF is that they paid the money.

BTW, thanks for the input hairmaster, and Tkj25. very impressive.
*runs off to visit tkj25's fotki*

:lachen: i'm laughing b/c you took the time to look these boys up! all seriousness, but i totally agree with you...if we don't want them to see....don't post those various pics.

i voted just to see what the outcome would be: This option is only here coz it wont allow one poll and to my surprise i'm one of the 65%

I don't know why this line made me crack up, most of the women who are taking these bra strap photos have their backs turned anyway so how would this be an issue? Most men have have seen bra straps before, lol...

I don't see what the problem is. It's not like full frontal nude. Why would anypne have a problem with men being members and being able to see the brastrap pics. Shoot, anyone (pervs and all) can lurk the hair forum so if people are so concern about who see the bs pics, then maybe they should post them. JMO.

lol bra strap pics? seriously? people go to the beach in about the same thing, in front of plenty of strangers, plz.

plus a guy doesn't have to be a member in order to lurk and see the pics soooo I don't see the big deal. Anyone can see the pics on the signatures. I don't see a problem with guys on the thread. Some may need the help. There are single fathers out there and men that care for their hair.

Yeah but I don't think that it's fair that men think that they should join this site. The banner at the top specifically says "The Ultimate Hair Care and Beauty Resource for WOMEN of Color."
Like you don't see a bunch of white girls running around here, you don't see a bunch of men. This site is specifically marketed towards people in a certain group. WOMEN of COLOR.
I'm not sexist or anything, but I'm like...??? when I see a guy post (rarely).
I think that they may have possibly missed the memo that this is a mainly womens site?
Lol i sound dumb I'm just gonna stop talking lol.

I'm not hating or anything because men definitely have the right to gain knowledge about hair care, but still... lol.

Hey it's whatever lol. They have the same rights as we do.

There has to be some white women somewhere on here, so why not men. If the banker says 'women of color', then white women shouldn't be allowed to be here either. And I do remember a whit women on here recently trying to get advice for her hair.

I like it that men are on the scene.

Quick vent:

I cannot BELIEVE what people are saying bout non african female people on this website!!!!!!!!

A LOT of the techniques on this site were taken from other WHITE/INDIAN/ASIAN websites and have been practised for a long time!!!!

So where does that leave Niko???? LOL

I do not remember anywhere in the rules that says anyone who is NON AFRICAN and FEMALE cannot join......

A lot of ladies from this site are on non african forums......whats so special bout us??

End Vent!
