Natural ladies, is it best to wash your hair loose or in plaits? Now that my hair is longer, I'm wondering if it will help to wash it braided up.

Braided. I'd not only lose my mind but I'd end up cutting all my hair off if I tried to wash it loose.

When I first went natural I made an attempt at washing it in braids, but my hair wasn't thorougly clean:ohwell:. So now I wash it free...I guess you lose less hair when washing in braids...

i like to wash in large sections.

i would open up a section add conditioner and finger comb. then i would put it back in to a braid or elastic and repeat for all sections. then i would clean my body while not getting my head wet. when im done i rinse it out section by section.

it sounds long but this is actually faster than trying to detangle it all at once for me. i could wash it loose but i would be overwhelmed with detangling and on what to do with it afterwards.

That's why you undo and comb braid by braid.

When I wash in big braids, I usually undo each one after shampooing and comb through then rebraid and then move on the next. I rinse the same way. And repeat if suds aren't clean, but coz I wash twice a week and don't use products, shampooing once suffices. I condition the same way and ACV rinse by dunking my head in water and undoing each braid in turn and combing it under the solution.

When I wash in braids without undoing, it's when the braids are so tiny (micros) and twists just as tiny. They are so small that it's easy for me to get my hair clean with them intact.

I only put my hair in loose braids to wash if I'm not washing in the shower. As long as I'm in the shower and I don't pile my hair on top of my head, I'm good. I try to be careful to not encourage tangles by staying on my scalp when massaging and squeezing and rubbing downward on the hair itself while washing..

I shampoo my hair in 4 or 3 sections. I need to do each section loose to it can feel cleansed to me.

Thanks ladies. Right now I spray my hair with water, let it sit for 10 minutes and detangle with fingers. Then I wash with my head over the tub, condition, rinse, then detangle and braid. I'll try the braids.

I noticed that when I wash it loose I have a lot of shed hair and knots on the ends that come out. Is this ok? My hair doesn't get tangled or anything.
