micros vs. kinky twists

I think kinky twist are. I had them both when I was relaxed and the kinky twist I saw more length . But the both are hard on your edges

I think micros are death to your edges. Especially if you have any edge concern at all don't get the micros. I have edge concern even more so now..I like a fool let someone put cornrows in my head. Those things were out within 5 days.

However, I've gotten kinky twist plenty of times ..my edges were fine..my hair was moisturized and came out the twist still healthy. Just important like always to keep it moisturized and I found I could easily wash my twist. But, that was not the case with micros.

Actually, micros won't be bad for your edges if you take care of them. I encourage women to be more assertive when getting braids. I had braids and I would tell the braider to not braid extrmely tiny sections on my edges. Additionally, I told her to make them bigger and use more hair, it's the trick to preserving your edges. I love microbraids, but my hair's too long for them now, but I saw the most length in the shortest amount of time. Also, you shouldn't pull or put your braids up in tight styles or ponytails. If you just must, use a soft hair tie and do a low pony towards the bottom of the hair ends.

With all this said, I am against getting braids after a fresh relaxer. I suggest you wait till a couple weeks post. I waited a couple months and used braids to transition. A relaxer then braiding is extremely stressful on relaxed hair and especially the edges. So just be careful. I loved micros, and if put in the correct way and cared for correctly, they are great. Look at my before and afters in my fotki.

As far as kinkies, I think they are great too, they both hide your hair, and I'm getting them because unlike micros right now, my entire hair from root to ends will be entirely covered, so that's my next step.

OT: your have made beautiful progress! When I get my relaxer next month, the length of my hair will be extremely short and just looking at your pics are great.

I dont have the patience to get micros. The whole act of taking those things out scare me.

I'm loving my twists so far. The bigger the braid, the less tress on your hair.

I've had micros before but it took a long time to get them done (7 hours) and not to mention the pain it is to take them down. On average how long does it take to get kinky twists? How do you properly take care of them?

I vote for kinky twist even though I love the look of nice micros better than kinky twists....like others have said micros will pull your edges out big time...I also no longer have the patience to take micro's out at all...Kinky twists are very easy to take out....an hour or less... they take about 4 to 5 hours if the person putting them in is fast....

A slow braid will take 8 horus for kinky twist, however it is possible to get them done within 5-6 hours.

I will once again reiterate the danger in getting micros if you have a fragile hairline. Big parts with tiny braids hanging off of them for micro braids doesn't look right. That isn't going to happen...it will look weird on your hairline. Most folks will put the micros on the hairline just like they did for the rest of the hair.

Plus if your hair is too short in the front or your hairline is already sparse...you don't want to get micros because you will just have frezzy mess of a hairline if that part isn't braided.

Kinky twist are easier to take care of..Continue ur regular regimen and O so easy to take out.
