I plan on straightening my hair this month. Since I am transitioning wrapping is a must to preserve it. But...which method is better?

Since my hair is still short, wrapping the regular way looks horrible in the morning. The left side and back of my hair was always flipped up, and I would have to flat iron. I have tried the tutorials, but I attribute the result to my hair being short. I finally found out about crosswraping, and I love it because there is little manipulation, and I know that when I wake up my nair will have a nice shape/look. :yep: Wrapping the regular way was too iffy for me in the morning

I need to learn the cross wrap way. I've been wrapping my hair the regular way for years and it doesn't have the "swing" that it used to anymore.

Crosswrap! The regular wrap is too much tension on the hair and requires too much combing/brushing. Plus, crosswrapping doesn't leave with those weird bends or cowlicks if your wrap isn't perfect.

Give pin curls a try if you're not interested in crosswrapping.

I am so confused as to why people always say regular wrapping is bad. Been wrapping my hair for years & years with no problems. Maybe my hair is trained.

It grows just fine with no breakage & always has. I don't know anything about cross-wrapping to compare the two.

I, too, had been wrapping my hair 4 years & never thought that there was a problem until I came here. Someone posted a pic of their hair from the back & one side was visably thinner/slightly damaged looking & they attributed it to wrapping. I, too, had hair that looked identical to the pic & concluded that my bad side had been a result of wrapping. :perplexed

I can't get it to work. I either get weird bends on the ends or a gap where I parted it in the back.

I use to cross wrap but I would always end up with a indentation in the back. The regular way works better for me now.

:yep: I need to learn how to cross wrap also. I go through the same thing when wrapping regular. In the morning instead of just combing my hair out and putting some product in it and going, I have to spend extra time trying to make it stay right.

Yeah, I noticed that when I joined and it made me scared of wrapping anymore, but I decided to just start alternating which way I wrap.

I tried cross-wrapping last night- it looked a hot mess in the morning. I feel like it is for longer hair.

I know exactly what you mean. Like if your hair is just not with it anymore.

I want to try the cross wrap and I love the example that was used previously.

I wish my hair were that long LoL! My ends only reach to the opposite ear. I'd love for this technique to work for me, but so far it hasn't.

I tried this last night and :nono: - results weren't too good.

Are there any shorter haired ladies that have had success with the cross-wrap? Any shorter haired cross wrap tutorials?

My hair is not short and not extremely long but like the above, my ends only reach to the opposite ear...:perplexed

For many years I have wrapped my hair the regular way. It wasn't until a few months ago when I first joined here that I realized that it was bad for my hair. I never really paid attention to how it thinned my edges out before. But then again, I never really paid attention to alot of things going on with my hair until I came here. Thank God for LHCF. LOL. Oh and it made my scalp sore on the side that I would wrap. I will try cross wrapping when I do my hair again but as far as regular wrapping, NEVER again!

I tried both regular wrapping and cross-wrapping. I too had the one sore side and flipped hair. I now only do cross wrapping and I alternate which side I wrap first. I'm currently wearing two-strand twists and the cross wrapping is maintaining my style better than any other technique I've used before. Last night I was too tired to cross-wrap my hair and I just threw my satin scarf on it. I regretted that decision this morning. My twists were crimped and going every-which-away when I took the scarf off. So now I'm wearing a low pony-tail secured with a satin scrunchie. For sure I'll be cross-wrapping tonight.

Cosign. That tension can cause breakage for some. I love cross wrapping. When I flat iron my hair straight, I always cross wrap and it's simple and super fast. I'm all for fast.

I cross wrap and i love it. Just love it!!!!!! I noticed a huge difference in my hair. I always had problems with my egdes and the back of my head but when i started to cross wrap the breakage stop. The only thing i dont like is that my hair is really flat when i take it out. But beside all of that im happy.

I like the regular wrap bc i don't get the weird dents in my hair like with cros wrapping and it gives my hair a nice bend to it so i don't have to use heat to curl it.
