What are you going to do different in 2009 to your hair

I'm not going to use direct heat this year. I'm saying that I won't color but I already started eyeballing rinses. :giggle:

I am not changing anything regimen wise because what i'm doing is working. I will most likely do a second BC and keep my hair much shorter than it is right now.

Ayurvedic and I am going to let my natural hair hang loose. I have been wearing wigs, braids, and cornrows for about one year.

changing products or regimens or what?

I'm going to go strictly Ayurvedic.
Yup! Strictly Ayurvedic for me! (and my natural homemade moisturizers and AO and Biolage conditioners/DC's)

With wet bunning and low man styles throughout the week.

I will wear my hair straight once a month in which i will use my professional salon brands - l'anza and pureology.

so yea ....

Ayurveda/Organic - 3 weeks out of the month
l'anza & pureology line - 1 week out of the month for straightening

I will go to the salon (Paul Pitchell in the US and Toni & Guy in the UK) every 4 months for trimming.

:bump:

I want to do the following:
  • Incorporate regular (weekly or biweekly) protein treatments.
  • Crown and Glory my hair until graduation - through extensions as well as my real hair.
  • Most importantly: to not become neglectful/lazy with my hair.

I want to start FRESH. And what I mean is forgetting what I thought I knew and keeping a more open mind. Becoming more optimistic and sticking to my plans and goals. Absolutely no heat this year and more protective styling. Also reducing the amount of products I've consumed over the years. Oh and one more thing keeping up with my growth so I know exactly where my issues lay ... such as updating my fotki, keeping up with pictures etc..

In 2009, I plan on DCing several times per week. I'm hoping I can stay away from direct heat... *puts flat iron away*. Also, I'd like to cut about 3 inches from my hair so that it will be all the same length. I can't take having random layers.

Actually, while I was getting my first professional haircut in about 10 years, due to a fear of stylists, the woman gave up halfway through and said she couldn't do anything further for me. This left me with random layers. Sigh.

I really want to reach WL in 2009, but I'm about an inch past BSL now and if I cut a few inches, I probably won't reach my WL goal. We'll see though. :nono:

This is a great thread by the way......I have been thinking about this for 2 weeks now, so here it goes:

I am trying to get to BSL which I would've achieved already if my hair hadn't fallen out due to a stylist jacking my hair up with some bootleg color:(......So I am at APL now, full and healthy, with pretty even ends. I am trying to wear my hair in a bun for a month(Until Christmas) to see if this makes any difference for me. If it does I will be:

1. Rocking a bun of some sort from January to May (I will be overseas during that time and I could care less about trying to be cute....lol)

2.Cutting back on buying all kinds of foolishness (I just bought BT and Cowboy Magic Detangler to help me with my stretches, but this is it for new products) I will just stick to what I know works.

3. Use the K.I.S.S. method and just relax about reaching BSL.....my hair is growing, so I am really just trying to retain length.

4. Stop giving people all of my hair books and advice who are not going to use it......(I will just tell them that I have Indian in my family....lmao)

5. Using Bigen to get my hair back to black....I let my black color grow out in my 3rd pic in my pikistrip below and it looks dead!!! So going back to black for sure.

6. Using Ors Olive Oil for my ends, but also SEALING with oil before I put my hair up.....(I never did this until a week ago and I could slap myself for not trying this earlier)

7. Going to therapy for H.I.H. Syndrome.....(I need help yall) I can't keep my hands out of my hair for nothing!!!

8. Using the Scarf Method for my edges and new growth....put down the brush!!!!!!

9. Taking more progress pics to post on here and starting a Fotki album after being a silent stalker for 5 years.....SMH at myself....lol

10. Deep conditioning 2x per week like I did when I first started off.....it really helped my hair....I guess I got lazy.....or I thought I no longer needed to do it, since my hair is in good condition now. WRONG!!!!!!!!!

Er . . . . ok, some of yall have lists of things to do, I feel kind of deficient since I only want to stop my hair from breaking. In order to do this, I'm going to stop (i) combing/brushing as much, (ii) using more moisturizing (and not protein) conditioners and (iii) get regular trims, (I know that some people on the board swear by the non-trims, but they really work for me). If there's anything else, I'll ETA.

- I'm going to try to be a tad more consistent with my regimen

- stick with the C&G technique

- keep the moisture and protein balance in check

- pay more attention to my overall health

recover from pjism after I try beauty by donna marie products :look:

moisturize like i am sick in the head

only trim at each stage (blunt apl then bsl then midback, etc)

My regimen will remain the same. I'll try the jamila henna and possibly indigo in 09 and if that don't work-i will probably use some semi perm color from HE

For me I will be keeping my hair in perfect moisture balance, and then also I plan to use Crown and Glory technique for my braids. Stay committed to my Take Better Care of my Hair Challenge. Also I plan to try out HairVeda products to my regimen.

I am currently back to my old regime I started when I was a member years ago. Since I've been back (2 weeks), I have picked up some new tips for 2009. I already have added a hot oil treamtent using Amla on damp hair for several hours before shampooing and I love the results :yep: . I intend on implementing some of the self relaxing tips I picked up this week in 2009. I trust no one but myself when it comes to any chemicals in my hair. Everytime I do I regreat it. :badidea:

My hair is looking better already thanks to you ladies. You always come through. :yay::yay:

I think that is a good idea - might have 2 steal this one.

Since I'm weaving until September (& maybe beyond if DH doesn't put up a fuss), the only thing that I'm going 2 do is add Ovation 2 my routine.

This year I'd really like to become a do it yourselfer.
I'm tired of jumping from place to place trying to find a good stylist only to become over/under processed and that they cut of more that I tell them to.

So I'd like to get personal with my hair and learn how to..
Relax
Trim

No brainers for some but HUGE for me.

I'm in the one year bunning challenge and I'm sticking to it. Thanks to all of you I FINALLY found a great moisturizer and I feel that 09 will be the year that I reach APL.

Also using Mega-Tek and sticking to my current washing and DCing routine.

Good Luck and God's Blessings to all!

I just got a trim to clean up them ugly looking, thin ends, so just focus on growth for 09'. I plan to increase my protein intake, keep my hair pinned up and no trims until I reach MBL, which will hopefully be soon :look:.

I will be relaxing and focusing on maintaining healthy hair. Hopefully 2009 will be the year of bra strap length for me! Also, I am going to exercise more.. not directly tied to hair, but a healthy body = healthy hair.

I plan to use gels less and wear less buns in 2009. I love the look of gel for most haristyles, but the protein is too much for my hair no matter what moisturizing products I use with it. I have been wearing buns 90% of the time, and I made a personal challenge to wear more non-bun hairstyles.

Hi Kiya!

Yeah I know! When Victor told me this I thought he was crazy!:perplexed He said deep conditioning treatments offered at salons are a waste of money because the hair only absorbs so much and that the water from washing is sufficient if sealed properly.I posted his emails to me(in the latest Sabino thread) about water being the only moisture we need(and anything else just mildly penetrates while the rest just sits there) and sealing it with MB in the latest Sabino thread. He did say that I could leave a little of my regular conditioner in for a little "feel good" as he calls it but the water is key. Sabino is suppose to lock the essential moisture in and any additional out until I shampoo again so there's no need for daily application of anything.

The member luckiestdestiny said this method is working for her she is reataining length and her hair is very moisturized. This could possibly be a set back for me if it doesn't work but I figured I'd try. I wouldn't really call this a bandwagon though, in fact it's the complete opposite.:lachen: I would definitely save money because he said get rid of all my products get a good shampoo, conditioner and Moisture Block. That's all I need.

I was relaxed but am transitioning to natural. I have thick course and dry 4b hair. I did not BC so I am dealing with two textures(3 inches of new growth). I have tried his method for a week and so far so good my hair does not feel dry and brittle and my scalp is moisturized from my natural sebum. I flat ironed it following his method on Saturday and have not added anything to my hair since.

I know that 4B is the most fragile hair having the least amount of cuticle layers than any other hair type(so I hear) so I figure I can't go wrong with giving myself an extra layer of protection with MB. I just keep thinking it shouldn't be this hard for black women to maintain healthy hair.

I completely agree with the bolded. Lately I've been trying a similar thing...I rinse with water often (every day/every other day) and seal with castor oil. I'm a 4ab natural and my hair is moisturized and soft. I'm going to continue on with this and see what happens.

For 2009:
-I'm going to try to keep my ends stretched at all times. Wash-n-go's are fine but they cause me to play in my hair and create knots/tangles. And, they make me lazy.

-I think I'm going to be in weaves/half-wigs until December. My goal is to be full APL by 12/09 and if I don't hide my hair I'll play in it.

Steam treatments (weekly)
DC 1-2x weekly
Experiment much more with natural styles
No trims in '09
Stay on top of my supplement game.
Make it a point to wrap up my hair at night (it's such a shame how badly I slack off at this :o I should probably just get a satin pillowcase.)
Try more natural products with all natural ingredients.

I'm not planning any huge changes except I have a goal of learning to rollerset in 09. And stepping up my bun game. I'm bunning for APL in 09.
