The first style looks like it's a roller set, maybe with medium size rollers.
The hair is brushed up on the sides and secured with pins to form the mohawk. The curls might be combed through with a wide toothcomb to give it a softer look. The front half is rolled forward and from the mid section to the back is rolled downward or 'normal' way.

The second style is another roller set but with tighter curls (almost looks like pin curls). If the hair is full and thick you can comb the hair, smooth the edges, place the headband and then take each section and wrap around your fingers to make the curls clump and until the hair appears full and pin down.

OR big spiral rods might do it because if the hair does not hang down they form that circle look. You might want to add some pieces if the hair is not full.

Yeah it kept popping off so I had to put my hair in a poytail and get it to lay down overnight and then in the morning I was able to get it on after it popped off a billion times... Also I had a fresh perm so I am going natural I do not know if it will hold after I transition my hair is super thick:spinning:
