Re: Relaxed ladies:If relaxers werent for sale anymore and hotcombs were not availabl

This thread should be a reminder that we still have A LOT of work to do....:yep: smdh So much ignorance...naw...flat out stupidity!

please don't let a few bad apples spoil the whole.
A poll declared more then half the board was natural. some relaxed and the rest transitioning. so only a few think like tht here.

Re: Relaxed ladies:If relaxers werent for sale anymore and hotcombs were not availabl

just to get this clear, the above posts are about me, right? and ya'll think I don't like natural hair and that I think it looks like pubes? just to be clear that ya'll missed the WHOLE point :lachen:

Re: Relaxed ladies:If relaxers werent for sale anymore and hotcombs were not availabl

People don't have a problem with you using the word 'grade' even tho on hair boards generally you will see people refer to hair types as 1 (straight), 2 (wavy) 3 (curly), & 4 (kinky) and all the subcategories such as 2a, 2b etc.

The problem people have is the way you use the word "better" or "good" in front of the word, "grade". You are not the only one in the world to use this terminology BUT on hair boards we respect all the types of hair there are and do not refer to "better" or "good" hair. That's why it was so obvious you have not been on hair boards for very long, becuz no one uses that type of offensive terminology & yes, it is offensive even tho some may prefer one type of hair over another. NO ONE's hair is ugly. All hair has the potential to be beautiful. When comparing a healthy head of kinky hair with a damaged head of say, wavy hair, it is much more respectful to describe the kinky hair as beautiful & healthy, and the wavy hair as damaged. You can talk in terms of straightness & say that the wavy hair person has straighter hair than the kinky hair person, but to describe it as better is very insulting to our hair board members whose goal is for everyone to take pride in their hair no MATTER THE GRADE.

It is not a matter of sensitivity as you state, but a matter of respect. And yes you can love your hair all you want, and that's the point: We all here to have healthy hair ( doesn't matter the type, processed or non-processed, colored or not) we can love. Welcome to LHCF:cool:

Very well put :yep:

This doesn't surprise me at all. Black people have ways to go.

Oh, I get it! You were saying that other people hate natural hair and think it looks like pubes, and that we live in a dream world if we think otherwise. Well, let me be the first to say thank you for pointing that out to us!

Re: Relaxed ladies:If relaxers werent for sale anymore and hotcombs were not availabl

I appreciate you for explaining it that way reyna21. Outside of hair boards people do describe hair as good or bad. I will not use that terminology on this forum again. I think alot of people on this forum relaxed or natural have beautiful hair. I have a better understanding of this forum now. Thank you reyna.

Re: Relaxed ladies:If relaxers werent for sale anymore and hotcombs were not availabl

Hi ladies! I see there is a lot going on around here but I did want to answer the question. If there were no more perms or hotcomes I would have to wear my hair natural. would I like it? as of now no. I wore my hair natural for a year and did not like it at all. Not putting down natural hair but I was not feeling the hair that grew out of MY scalp. I'm sure it was because I didnt know how to take care of it properly. I love my hair relaxed and I'm looking forward to growing it out with a relaxer but I like I said if i didn't have a choice, I would just do what I had to do. Probably rock cute cornrow styles and braids until it got long enough for my liking.

Re: Relaxed ladies:If relaxers werent for sale anymore and hotcombs were not availabl

mmmmmkkkkaaaayyyyyy...:nono:

i think natural hair is gorgeous and for the sake of my daughter and sons will most likely transition...but to think natural hair is like pubs??? wow

I know right!...Hell my pubes look like Puerto rican/Indian hair peoples hair:look: :lachen:

Disclaimer: I do not intend to offend any Puerto rican or Indian people on this board. My assessment is merely contingent upon the fact that my pubic texture is closely associated with the "good grade" of soft waves that are common amongst these people

Re: Relaxed ladies:If relaxers werent for sale anymore and hotcombs were not availabl

I would, I'm transitioning and don't plan to use hot combs.

Re: Relaxed ladies:If relaxers werent for sale anymore and hotcombs were not availabl

Why does it matter how long I've been on this board? I've had my hair all my life so it really doesn't matter how long i've been on here. I'm assuming ignant means ignorant. A good grade of hair is exactly what it says. Some people have nicer hair than others. For example alot of biracial people have a better grade of hair than people that aren't biracial. It doesn't take a genius to know when someone has a better grade of hair than yours.

I call a big nappy fro one that you can break a comb trying to comb through it. I doubt if I went natural I would have that problem. Naturally some people's hair is more manageable than others with or without hair products. Not saying that my hair is better than anybody else's on here.

Definition of ignorant- uneducated in general; lacking knowledge or sophistication
New to LHCF or not I am very well educated.

Please expound. What exactly makes some hair a better grade? What do better grades of hair look or feel like?

Wow. There is way too much ignorance in this thread.

ETA: Jokes always have a bit of truth to them. But hey, if your pubic hair is APL, more power to you!

I agree:nono:

But on a high note, I guess our natural hair is the most sexy, literally:lachen:

Wow. I can't believe someone wrote this...Anyway, to take it there, if your hair is a 'good grade,' why'd you have a relaxer since the age of 4? Your story doesn't compute.

To answer the original question, if I couldn't straighten any more, I'd just accept it and move on. I'd invest in a bunch of SitriNillah masques, scarves to tie down the edges, and a Denman. It's not that serious, it's just hair. I'd rather have a fro, then some Yaki up in my head.

You shouldnt have erased your comment.

Yeah, it would have been a very interesting conversation with interesting responses.

But I'm not sure everyone would know how to handle it, and it would have turned ugly. :(

Ah well.

Re: Relaxed ladies:If relaxers werent for sale anymore and hotcombs were not availabl

I would have a freakin heart attack. I haven't been natural since I was 4 years old so I don't know what my hair would look like. I like my hair silky straight. I would go crazy especially without a flat iron.

As cute as you are?! Girl please... you would be sooo fly!
