I would have to be.

Re: Relaxed ladies:If relaxers werent for sale anymore and hotcombs were not availabl

Interesting............

Re: Relaxed ladies:If relaxers werent for sale anymore and hotcombs were not availabl

I would get micro braids or a sew in weave and straighten the hair that's out with a flat iron . Now if all the weave was gone and all heating tools did not work then I would have to face my natural texture .

Re: Relaxed ladies:If relaxers werent for sale anymore and hotcombs were not availabl

id be proud cuz ive been natural..and now that ive joined this site i am learning ways to tame and style my natural hair...had i not joined here....Heeeeeccck NOOOO id be looking a hot mess...not knowing what to put in it ect!!!...i will say id be wearing alot more weaves and wigs...cuz i like having straight hair at times too

Re: Relaxed ladies:If relaxers werent for sale anymore and hotcombs were not availabl

yes i would be ok with it. but i would still rollerset and flat iron my roots for the most part. i dont have a problem with my natural hair. in fact i transitioned for 11 months and only relaxed because at the time i was just in i dont care mode.

Re: Relaxed ladies:If relaxers werent for sale anymore and hotcombs were not availabl

You said nothing about a flat iron, lol

Nah, I'd do a big chop, braid this stuff up for a year and KIM

Re: Relaxed ladies:If relaxers werent for sale anymore and hotcombs were not availabl

seems like i wouldn't have a choice...

Re: Relaxed ladies:If relaxers werent for sale anymore and hotcombs were not availabl

would you be okay with walking around sporting your natural hair with pride?

:)
absolutely... I was natural just over 5 months ago and I love my hair. I relaxed because it was too time consuming.

Re: Relaxed ladies:If relaxers werent for sale anymore and hotcombs were not availabl

This is funny cause I made a joke about this to my boyfriend- I was like what if something happened and black women couldn't straighten our hair anymore? He looked at me dumb.:perplexed

Anyway, I would be okay with it.

Re: Relaxed ladies:If relaxers werent for sale anymore and hotcombs were not availabl

Of course I'd be okay with. Hell, it's what I do now:wink2:

Re: Relaxed ladies:If relaxers werent for sale anymore and hotcombs were not availabl

I'd be fine with it. Judging by my newgrowth, it would be thick and beautiful so I wouldn't care. I plan on transitioning after age 30 anyway.

I would have no problem. I was natural up until 14 months ago. If I had found LHCF before I used a relaxer, I wouldn't have used one.

Re: Relaxed ladies:If relaxers werent for sale anymore and hotcombs were not availabl

^Ditto. I've been natural twice and it was all good.

Pride comes from within in my honest opinion and when you're comfortable in your skin it doesn't matter whether you're relaxed or natural. :yep:

I totally agree with this statement :yep:. Though I love the hellz out of my relaxed hair, I have great texture and I'd rock my 3c/4a natural curls and still be fly

Re: Relaxed ladies:If relaxers werent for sale anymore and hotcombs were not availabl

i'd do what my older (as in my mommy's age older) cousin did when she was a kid:

take a metal fork to a hot light bulb, heat it up, and press it against my hair. :lachen:

Her sister tells that story to this day just to annoy her.

Re: Relaxed ladies:If relaxers werent for sale anymore and hotcombs were not availabl

Yes, I would. I'm transitioning now.

I love curls and hardly ever wear straight hair as a texlaxer. :yep:

Re: Relaxed ladies:If relaxers werent for sale anymore and hotcombs were not availabl

Why? Which ones.

...why?....

I just find it odd when people say that the hair that grows out of their head doesn't or wouldn't "suit" them. Especially if they haven't even experienced it since they were 5.

Also, some of the posters implied (or stated outright) that if there were no heat appliances or relaxers then they'd wear wigs/weaves/braids in order to avoid having to "face" their natural hair. That's weird to me.

I thought those responses were interesting. And, they literally made me shake my head.

Re: Relaxed ladies:If relaxers werent for sale anymore and hotcombs were not availabl

Gurl, I would find the nearest iron and ironing board!!! (just kidding) I would probably rock braids or cornrows!

Re: Relaxed ladies:If relaxers werent for sale anymore and hotcombs were not availabl

um, no. I would have to get my hair cut. My new growth would be out of control, I have to gt it to lay down before I go to work.. workin w two textureess?? nah dawg. Plus, you didnt say if there were no flat irons.. so I'd prob us that :)

Re: Relaxed ladies:If relaxers werent for sale anymore and hotcombs were not availabl

So I guess this is one of those undercover "If you don't like your natural hair, then you hate yourself" threads. smh

I felt this was directed to me since I was the one that said since I was 4 years old. I have a good grade of hair so I doubt i'd have a big nappy fro. I had very pretty hair before I was relaxed so I doubt it would be a serious problem. My curly or straight hair suits me because its my hair. But I personally prefer my roots straight.

Everyone has their opinion about their hair. Some can go natural, some can't. Its not odd for people to feel a certain way about their hair. If they had a serious problem with the hair that grows out their head they'd probably shave it off and wear a wig all the time. I don't think its right to shake your head at people for their personal opinion about their hair.

You haven't been on this board very long but the bolded is a little ignant...what is a "good grade" of hair and what's wrong with a "big nappy fro"? :perplexed
I have no issues with someone wanting to relax their hair if that is what they want to do but shm to the bolded statements.

Re: Relaxed ladies:If relaxers werent for sale anymore and hotcombs were not availabl

I admire women who choose to wear their hair natural:yep:

However I choose not to because my hair is very thick and very kinky, I wouldn't even describe it as a 4 anything its more like a 5. I don't have any curls or tendrils that I can play up. I know this because I went without a relaxer for a year while in braids and in between my installs I would try to play with the natural texture of my hair...I had no luck with it. So I choose to relax my hair.

Now, when I say that natural hair would not suit me that is not to say that I don't think that natural hair doesn't suit anyone, there are plenty of lovely ladies with naturals who look fabulous, its just not for me.

I find it fascinating that people will readily accept it when people say that they were born the wrong gender or in the wrong body, but the moment someone says that natural hair does not suit them everyone is up in arms.

My choice to be relaxed is no better than someones choice to be natural and their choice to be natural is not better than my choice to be relaxed.

They are just expressions of our personal preference,(which is not sad) it's individuality

ITA and furthermore it's not that people "can't" go natural but some just don't "want" to for whatever reason. It is a personal choice but I'm having a hard time understanding why it's that big of a deal. It's just hair :ohwell:. I'm sure people would survive the horrors of having natural hair. They'd have no choice but to get over it :look:

Why does it matter how long I've been on this board? I've had my hair all my life so it really doesn't matter how long i've been on here. I'm assuming ignant means ignorant. A good grade of hair is exactly what it says. Some people have nicer hair than others. For example alot of biracial people have a better grade of hair than people that aren't biracial. It doesn't take a genius to know when someone has a better grade of hair than yours.

I call a big nappy fro one that you can break a comb trying to comb through it. I doubt if I went natural I would have that problem. Naturally some people's hair is more manageable than others with or without hair products. Not saying that my hair is better than anybody else's on here.

Definition of ignorant- uneducated in general; lacking knowledge or sophistication
New to LHCF or not I am very well educated.
