U know u have my support (from afar :look:) cuz if u wanna transition....

I'm just :sekret:

 I need a buddy for the stretch Mona, I would love to go natural again but I got too much hair for me to just whack it off. If I was still in damaged hair domain, I would be all for it. So what do you say....stretch with me, atleast for 4 months :look: Don't make me beg

It is nice to hear that stylists are progressing in this area. When I first transitioned I had such a hard time finding a supportive stylist.

Momi,

My goodness your haircut is just gawjus! Was that done on natural hair? If so WHO is your stylist and WHAT is his/her number?

That is what got me too. I asked her about that and she said that her clients fall in one of two areas, people that want to wear their hair curly sometimes or people that want to wear their hair straight nearly all of the time. She said depending on what you want your final result to be, her technique changes.

I then asked of course then why don't you just keep relaxing those ladies instead. She replied that many of them have fine hair just lots of it (which is me so my ears totally perked up) so even with the regular heat use, they find that their hair is thicker and stronger than when it was relaxed. She said that she still does things to protect the hair from heat as usual but they still like it better now. I have seen her work up close and personal on a classmate. She has BSL bleached hair and it is beautiful. I asked her how much her hair curls back up when she washes and she said that on a scale of one to ten, it goes back to about a 4. She said that she doesn't care because she wants her hair straight but she said that it doesn't break as much and is much thicker than before.

This is me too!!! I can't wait to hear the info you gain from her....I wonder does she utilizes steam treatments for her clients.

:bighug: Thanks a bunch!!!!
Please do not refer this woman to your sister. I spoke to my sister about this woman and it turns out that she isn't all about healthy hair as she claimed and my sister is no longer going to her because of her poor haircare and styling skills. However my sister is interested in the lady you found. So let me know how it goes.

def interested. I am thinking of transitiong myself. I am tired of this damage on top my head and I am looking for some versatility.

Hi newbie here! (Long time lurker:grin:)

I find this fascinating that a lot of her clients wear their hair straight 90% of the time and it's healthy. I have noticed a lot of people will shun heat but embrace relaxers:perplexed I may be biased because I love my flat iron-but only with the proper heat protectant.

I am transitioning to natural without a BC and I love the way I look with straight hair. Relaxers broke my hair and messed my scalp up(or should I say the improper use of them by my former stylist). I am curious to hear about the products she uses and her technique.

My plan is to stay natural with heat straightened hair and I believe heat used regularly and properly won't damage hair. This woman may prove that.

You and I are on the same page. I'm transitioning with heat, I don't plan the BC. I want to be chemical free but straight most of the time. I hope I can do this and keep my hair hair healthy.

I'm interested in hearing what your appoint is going to be like. I've never heard of anyone specializing in transitioning; that's a real plus.

This describes my hair to to T. I am almost 24 weeks post and my hair looks better flat ironed now than it did when I was relaxing. It's straight but thicker with more body.

I am also in the process of transitioning. I find that my hair blows dry and flat irons and gets straighter than the relaxed hair! It just responded to the process better. I just gotta figure out the frizz thang and I'll be on my way!

Looking forward to gym's update to this thread :-)

I've been thinking about this more and more. I've been using MT and DCing and I'm loving my new growth.... for me, if I go through with it, the only way for me to transition without BCing is braids, weaves, or light low-level weekly heat... (unless someone else has any good do-able options.)

I believe we can have healthy hair and use heat just as the people who relax believe they can have healthy relaxed hair. We just have to be careful and make sure we moisturize and protect our hair. I am staying on top of the naturals that straighten regimens and techniques.

I am loving how strong my natural hair feels. I am only hanging on to my relaxed ends for looks/length(just soooo much easier to style). I can't wait until I have enough natural hair to finally let it go. I love threads like this because I can get healthy hair tips and wear my hair the way I like to.

This is so interesting to me because I have heard others say that their hair feels thicker and stronger pressed as opposed to permed. i wonder why?

I'm so glad I ran into this thread! I'm only about 10 weeks post, but I've been really pressed for time lately so I haven't been able to do my regular rollersets (which I roll again every nite with satin covered sponge rollers). I've just been blow drying on low heat and flat ironing, and I really like the way my hair looks (It looks better when I rollerset then flat iron, but I don't have time).

If I could find a good stylist who would help me transition and keep my natural hair healthy, I'd turn my back on relaxers so quick.... :yep: It seems like my hair is looking really thin lately (I really don't know if it's relaxers or stress, but either way relaxers aren't helping).

My mom said that she believes that by the time I start my career, I'm going to be natural.

Another thread just popped up about a lady who has her stylist helping her transition so I thought I'd bump this up.

Where are you Gym? Did you talk to her yet?

I'm looking for a new stylist in LA that specializes in transitioning because my current stylist has not adjusted her rates for the economy lol. I'll be subscribing to this thread, I can't wait to find out new tips!

I'm thinking about NOT relaxing. I'm 25 weeks post and I think I can do this. I really want to. I love the texture of my new growth and I hate relaxers. I only do them to tame my new growth. But now that I'm learning how to soften it and condition it, I think I can transition.

Of to look for transitioning threads...:roadrunner::happydance:
