I don't really have a price range. Quality is more important vs the price. Oh yeah please don't ask me my hair type bc I have no clue. I'm relaxed and 9 wks post. I won't be buying it for a bit bc I'm on a no buy challenge but I like to research first. TIA!

I bought a GVP (Generic Value Products) ceramic iron which is the generic for a CHI iron from Sally's for about $60. I like it although I can't compare it to the original CHI since I've never used or owned one. I also purchased,, a long time ago, a cheap Conair ceramic iron from Wally world (before I knew what ceramic irons were or their purpose) and in comparison to my GVP iron from Sally's, the GVP is waaaaaay better, to me. HTH

Thanks, everyone :)! Off to research especially since those Follica links are surrounding this post.

I have the GVP from sally's and the Sedu. I prefer the sedu, it does not snag the hair at all and the plates are really smooth. The seams around the plates are not wide, so hair does not get caught up in them.

I'll have to check out that Sedu for myself one day soon. Been hearing some good things about it.

Me too! I was going to start a thread about this! I am natural tho- 3c/4a. I didn't realize how expensive flat irons could be. I've heard all the raves about CHIs but they don't have temp settings do they? And I think it was a Sedu or Solia?? there were some not so good reviews about the plates not lining up. But I was on folica.com and the before/after pics were amazing!!

Right. The lower-end CHIs and FHIs (the ones I could afford) don't. They are set at around 400 degrees, too. I tried both and returned both.
I have a BIOSILK flat iron, $99.00 made by the same people that make CHI and it has a temp setting. I like it.

i just bought an x5 superlite tourmaline ionic flat-iron from TJ-Maxx the other day. it's AMAZING. huge upgrade from the 14.87 Andis i was using from Wal-Mart

it's on folica for 139.95, but i found mine at TJ Maxx for 49.99.

the best thing about it is that it doesn't snag. it's tourmaline ionic, meaning that once the iron is plugged in, the plates themselves, even when the iron is on the "off" switch, become negatively charged. the same way a 3-way touch lamp feels, if you rub it... like electricity is surging through it. just passing the plugged-in iron through my hair made it feel... softer. its kind of hard to explain. but anyways, the iron made my hair look SUPER silky... and worked ten thousand times better than the Andis, CHI, and Pro=Touch irons i've used in the past.

here's a pic:

it's got a temperature control, ranges from 179 - 410. i was able to get my new growth super straight on about 325.

Original CHI. I love it!!! It doesn't have a temp setting though, but that never has bothered me. If you prefer one with a temp, the Maxiglide MP is good too.

GHD hands down.

Not from ebay though, as the majority are fakes. There was a big bust on ebay few months ago. Even the fakes on there have serial numbers so it hard to to differentiate between the fake and authentic.
