When you measure for APL, do you measure with your arms up or with your arms down? Now, of course I say down because I don't walk around with my arms up in the air...

but I see some ladies who have their arms up (mostly to take the picture). What do you think?

I was just thinking that this morning.
I am grazing APL with my arms down(I'm not claiming it yet though) but with my arms up it is definitely there.

I think it should be with the arms down. I have seen some pics with it up so I am curious to see what the other ladies will say.

It should be arms down. When you put your arms up the line that you use to measure to see if you're APL goes up to.

Kinda deceiving!

Down.

I remember hearing that you're APL if you can pull your hair up underneath your armpits.:lachen: I guess waist length would involve pulling your hair around your waist. LOL.

Definitely down! :yep:

If your arms go up, so do your armpits. Not to mention that you have to slightly tilt your head up, to make sure the camera is at the right angle.

I think it should be down. although when I touch my armpit and bring my arms up and down it doesn't seem to move(the bottom of the armpit) but that can't be right because the armpit is a glenohumeral joint that is a fully moveable synovial joint- therefore it must move to some degree.
Anyhow I say DOWN because in my avatar, it looks like I'm past armpit close to brastrap and I was right at armpit and my hands were up. no tilt to the head either.

Down!! I see so many ladies taking pictures with their arms up asking if they are APL and they are just barely there if at all :nono: But I shut up and keep it moving. I know how some ladies can be on this board

Thanks ladies for the replies.

I'm going to spend my day tomorrow walking around with my arms straight up to see if anyone will say anything to me.:lachen:

Down! No doubt!

I'm starting a petition that APL should be towel length.

You know how you wrap a towel under your arms when you get out of the shower? That right there, where the towel hits you across the back when the towel is as high and tight as it can be - that, I think, is APL. :yep: :look:

Who's with me?!

:lachen:

I'm with you!

Down. When I measured I always take the picture with one hand and keep the other down. That way I can get a more accurate view.

If I took pics with my arms up, I'd probably be APL already - but Im not trying to delude myself so ITA with kiya.

DOWN!
Claiming APL with your arms up is the same as claiming BSL with your head tilted back.:nono:
I told someone once, VERY nicely, that I think they aren't quite APL since all her pictures were taken with raised arms. Down, she'd only be past SL...My comment was deleted but the "YEAH, GURL, YOU MADE IT!" surely were kept.. :/

:lachen::lachen: hopefully she read your comment before it disappeared. there's nothing worse than a few people filling up your head while most of the others are laughing behind your back.:lachen:

It was on her fotki, so yeah, she read it. I meant no harm, but I can't say you're APL when you're not! :nono:

That is so silly...why wouldn't you want to hear honest answers when it comes to your hair?

I posted a question about how long people thought it might take me to make APL and some said 2 months but there were several that said 6-8 months. I didn't get upset...ok hair grows so GOD forbid I should have a setback, I'll get there.

For me I prefer to measure it with my arms down. But the funny part is that now that I take self measurement pictures it's hard for me to measure it with my arms down. But I think arms down gives you a more accurate measurement.

People get so doggone creative trying to come up with ways to make their poor little hair look longer than it is. It gets on a person's nerves! :wallbash: ... I mean come on now, do you measure shoulder length hair with your shoulders relaxed or do you measure with your shoulders hunched up? Do you measure brastrap length with your head titled back or held straight? Are you supposed to measure your floor length hair by just laying your head on the floor or what? Some ladies are seriously tripping.

That's it.
