Do you only get attention because of your hair?

I usually rock not so cute hairstyles during the week and a cute style on the weekend ONLY if I'm going out, which is rare. This weekend I followed instructions someone posted for twist-outs or braid-outs. My 'outs' usually look good but THIS one...wow (since I have no pics I'm not going to get into it too much- I know how ya'll ladies are :)

From the event I attended to the looks and come-ons hanging around town I was FEELIN' it. But, at night, when the braids went back in, my face cream on, my thermals on and my mouth guard in, I started to wonder, how could I possibly keep up this attention? I'm NOT interested in doing the work it takes for my hair to look that good and simply won't do it. So when it happens, I tend to completely dismiss all the attention I get whether it is from females or males because after all it's not ME, it's the hair.

How do you feel when the attention you get is mostly because of the hair?

Hmm, to me, hair is an attribute and complements a person. When my hair is "done," I don't associate all the compliments I receive with the hair. Instead, I think it just adds to my 'pizazz.' They're complimenting the whole me, not just the hair, in my mind at least.

I get attention no matter how my hair looks. It's all about confidence. My hair always looks neat and that's what counts.I can go out in a nappy bun or something more sleek but i'm still just me.

I get this, but I think that it's more than just the hair, it's also the added confidence or energy or aura that comes with not simply looking good, but feeling really good about yourself. When you feel like you're on fire, people feel that. They might be admiring the outward appearance, but there's proabably also an added internal energy that attracts them, too.

I feel this way too. When I'm feeling myself other people tend to also. I like to look good anyway so I'm feeling myself 99.3% of the time . That energy in itself is attractive. :yep:

I do get more attention when I wear my hair out, but I think that I exude more confidence when I have my hair loose. Its such a change from my daily bun, it's almost like I kinda know that I'm looking kinda good. Thats why I think I get more attention, the confidence that shines through.

I get the most attention when I wear my hair pulled back in a puff or a bun, rarely when I wear it out or down.

I agree with the OP. I so much more attention when my hair is out in big braid outs than when it is in a bun. HOWEVER, I also think I am much more confident when my hair is in a braid out than a bun because I KNOW I look good. You were feelin' your braid out this weekend so the guys were feelin' you.

Ditto.

That's very true. I was walking in an isle in some store feeling like a super model with the 'wind in the hair' look. I def. felt the 'fire' :)

I like the attention I get when my hair is different, but what sticks to me even more is when someone compliments me when my hair is just in a plain everyday bun because then I know that they really do see something that goes beyond the hair. I got a compliment today on my bantu knot out by 2 people and i was appreciative, but Saturday when my hair was in a donut bun i really took it to heart because it was something plain and simple that got me that compliment. She said it looked "nice and neat" awww I was blushing

No, I get it. Confidence is part of it, but folks act different when your hair is done. The only time my hair is really done (shinny, bouncy, etc) is for the first 4 or 5 days post-relaxer. The men at my gym all smiles and double-takes. I get extra attention from all sorts of folks. Yes, even some non-black ladies stare. I can see the envy. It ain't pretty, folks. I pull a similar level of attention when I'm wearing skirts/dresses or on rare occasions when I'm rockin a little cleavage.

I don't let the hair inspired attention mess with my head. I take good care of myself - I exercise regularly and eat right. I could be dressed in a potato sack, but I know I look good. (All of me!)

When I wear my hair down and curly I get more attention from women (who love the curls and want to be natural too). I think my hair intrigues them and they wonder if their natural hair would do the same.

When I wear my hair straight I get more attention from men (who seem to especially love the length). One man did a triple take the last time I wore it straight, and I had other men cheesin asking "is that all you?"

Personally I think I look cute with curly hair (but it makes me look younger than I already do), but somehow when it's straight I feel more grown and womanly.

I think well-styled HAIR just like a stylish outfit will spark a positive response in everyone! It is part of your grooming and will either add to or distract from your TOTAL LOOK!

We all like what we like.....:yep:
