Hello All,
I gave myself a rollerset on Friday and to make sure that my hair was dry I slept uncomfortably in those hard rollers until Saturday morning. I took them out and it was cute, but when I woke up the next morning it was flat and not as cute as the day before. This was my first time doing it and know that I wil get better but would like to know how you sleep at night with a rollerset? Please give me your secrect becasue I know that you have some to share. My hair is short mid neck length.

Thank you all for your time in advance for responding to this thread,

I use my satin covered rollers. I tie my hair down and then roll the hair left out at the back. I have pretty waves and curls in the morning.

no I've not tried pin curls, but did try the satin rollers. I was not sure if I was going to have to roll my hair with the satin rollers everynight, but it looks like I am going to have to. I cannot seem to get any good sleep in any rollers. Thank you for responding.

Girl i hear you!
I try to rollerset after every wash solely as a healthy air-drying option.
That set is flat by the next day:lachen:.
I feel like i'm wasting my time, but it allows me to have straighter hair than if i were just air-drying,because i would have to use heat to get it straight then, and my ends would be snapping from doing that so much:nono:

I'm checking this thread out too for responses,so Thanks for starting this!!

hello lady beesrch,
I thought it was just me, becasue I thoght i was wasting my time doing a rollerset as well.

Over the past year, I have tried pincurling, re-rolling, wet setting, and no matter what I do I can't get the curls back from the original rollerset.:ohwell: I am convinced that weekly rollersets are a one shot deal, and can only be achieved after your weekly shampoo. I've learned to enjoy mine for one day each week after a shampoo,:look: then put up in protective styles for the rest of the week. Short of going to bed with rollers in; I haven't discovered any other way.

I just re roll every night. I don't have any issues with sleeping with the rollers. I think i've gotten used to them.

But pincurling is also good. I just apply a small amount of my leave in then seal and do a pin curl. Makes the curl keep its hold for days.

I use the magnetic rollers initially, but I think it depends on your setting lotion. If I want my curls to last for a while then I use the dudleys. If I want a softer set then I use Kera Care Setting Lotion or QP Elasta Design Lotion. Dudley's gives me a firm curl. At night I sleep with a satin bonnet on, and I can manipulate my curls for a for a few days if I decide not to sleep with rollers. When my hair starts to look ratty then I manipulate the front with cute pins, clips, combs, and headbands. Sometimes I opt to sleep in the satin rollers or the magnetic rollers. It depends on how I feel, but I am used to the hard ones. Of course you can always sleep on your arm or get a neck pillow so that your hair won't get smashed:) HTH, Silkydreamgirl

I re roll.
I use Mesh rollers.
For a while, I had gone back to the magnetic rollers with the snap on caps and I don't know why I every stopped using the mesh. I re-rolled last night with breakfree and my hair looks better than it did yesterday! Mesh rollers are a keeper for me.

Mine don't last that well. I mean when I unwrap my hair, I do have a bit of a flip action going on. Other than that, I have a problem with the time it takes to re-pin curl. So, I'll just sit back and read everyone's responses as well.

Bump! I want to know too. I re-roll but there's got to be a better way.

If anyone has a pin-curl tutorial can I see?

TIA!

ITA! I dont mind sleeping in the rollers(magnetic snap on) at all especially if it means that I wont look like a chicken by the head the next day LOL!:yep:

Same here. I've slept on rollers for so many years, it doesn't bother me.

I pin-curl. I have a NUMBER of ways to pin curl to achieve a lot of styles. Maybe I will make a tutorial album or video when my schedule frees up. This is all based on how my hair behaves, but I think generally speaking, experimenting would help everyone figure out what works easiest for them.

depending on how I want the curl or how the curls fell and how I am trying to replicate, hold, or change them, I pin curl them some kind of way (I have gotten good at making this a very quick and simple process and often only have to do a few pin curls now, even to get a lot of curls).

I figured all this out by experimenting. I was really bad a pin curling 1.5-2 years ago. I had to ask a friend to tell me how. So part of my advice is to not get frustrated and experiment. It's a life saver and I can keep my hair looking cute without a lot of brushing and manipulation now. Next, I want to master bantu knots... But that's OT.

Anywho, what also helps a lot of my hair is particularly flat or limp, or I just got a relaxer, or it just isn't holding a curl well for whatever reason, is to use a very moisturizing leave-in, or hair butter or something. I find that moisturized hair holds curls a lot better, and getting a bit of moisturizer on the hair as you pin curl it helps set the hair using a bit of moisture overnight. I find that this is better than serums because you don't get stickiness and tangles.

Also, if you want your hair to look sleek, don't use too much moisturizer, or it may wave up, depending on your hair. Don't use too little either or it won't do the job. It depends on the moisturizer and your hair's thickness and current state, like I said. Experimenting helps figure it all out.

I also used to sleep with rollers, before I became adept at pin curling. While I was experimenting, I tried using oils and setting lotions to help hold the curl, then figured out moisturizing leavev ins worked best for my hair. Rollers worked for me, but I sleep a lot more comfortable with the pin curls. My hair also snags less, and now the pin curls take only about five minutes to do before bed.

Depending on the style, there are also techniques you can do with your scarf (including changing the shape) to help control, create, or reshape your style.

Hope osme of this helped.

If you pincurl your hair following the shape of the curl, you should be able to hold your rollerset for a good set of time. Even pulling your hair back and curling under all of the hair and then pinning at the nape of your neck works. When you wake up in the morning, you just run your fingers through and you'll have a bouncy look. Hope this helps.

what are the diff ways of pincurling for diff styles?

At some point your hair will be too long for magnetic rollers. Unless you want to sleep sitting up.

Try the pin curls. I find not only are they more comfortable but more kind to your scalp. I used to get sore scalp and lots of breakage trying to sleep in rollers.

I have no issue sleeping in the magnetic rollers or the satin rollers..But what I do to make my rollersets look nice as the first day it was done is to just re-roll the middle with foam just on the ends and wrap the rest..In the morning when you take the rollers out of the middle and comb down the wrap it has a nice look/bounce to it!! (When I say roll the middle, get a big chunk of hair past where you would wear a bang(even if you don't wear a bang))..Good Luck!!

That's exactly what I do. If I'm too tired/lazy to pincurl all of my hair I pin it all back in a couple of curls at the nape of my neck. My set always lasts until I wash it again in about 5 to 6 days.
