And, practices healthy hair practices? Are you willing to braid another member's hair? Put your specialty and your general vicinity up. We all complain about bad braiders, so we might as well help each other out.

I have been braiding for about 15 years now, I used to braid others hair when i was younger for cash but now I only do my own hair, and i barley have the patients for that, I cant do the hours on my feet anymore like when i was younger...

:giggle: Asummertyme you echo my sentiments with your last line. It's not even so much standing on my feet. I could be sitting...and I used to rent movies so we'd be having fun while I did the hair. But I just hate to be tied to one task for hours these days. At least when I do my own hair, I can stop and wear a hat or wrap till I'm in the mood again. Can't do that when braiding another person's hair. Gotta finish... Got to stick with it till it's done no matter how mad it makes you. I think I wore myself out too because I'd go out of my way to make my "client" comfortable, even letting them lie down on the couch and go to sleep while I slaved away into the wee hours of the night :sekret: (Never mind how tired I got leaning over them). :look:

Ditto what asummertyme said. The exact number of years too. I have been thinking about starting to braid again though. I recently put kinky twist in my own hair cause I don't even feel like sitting in the African shops anymore.

I just learned how to braid hair in March, I'm still not THAT great at it, but I can do it. I doubt anybody lives in my area though so it doesn't even matter.

I've been braiding other people's hair since high school...but I don't really like doing it, especially when they ask for something that's going to take forever. My family is horrible with hair, so I'm always the unwilling stylist:ohwell:

I feel ya'll; cause I've been thinking about doing this since I'm at home with the baby, but I just don't think it's worth it anymore. :nono: I've been braiding hair for over 15 years (and I'll be 30 in Dec; I started braiding my own hair when I was 11; and others when I was 13).

Not only does it take hours to do, because you're doing it alone; clients complained that it took too long. Eventhough I charged a lot less than the Africans, did a better job, and didn't break off their edges; they still complained about my price ($80-$90 for very small box braids)!!

I was working full-time; going to school part-time and still braiding hair on the side! I knew it was time to stop when I was able to charge $25/hour to teach a computer class. :lachen:I got more money in less time with less work; same amount of headache though.

Since I still love braiding hair; I'll just do my dd's. :lachen:

yup...its not worth it..i stopped braiding other peoples hair when i was young because of that reason alone..i was in the hood, so i would get asked to do human hair braids for 20 bucks, and then they had the nerve to want micros witha knot!...Smokin rocks i tell ya!
I had a bootleg salon in my room at 17..relaxers, wraps, buns , pinapple and fingerwaves..i even had price chart and people still wanted to give me I.O.U's...:nono:..yeah,i gave that up a long time ago.....I would love to do hair again..but not braids tho..unless its on my DD's like Blessed said..:yep:
