I posted about this concept months ago but didnt get much feedback because everyone is anti cones:lachen:. But anyways

I grew my hair from the damaged SL chickenhead red you see in my siggy to BSL in less than a year without even knowing a thing about LHCF or BHM. After I grew the color out to BSL, I cut it to APL and got more color:rolleyes::lachen:. I found BHM and LHCF 2 months later. How did I grow my hair out that fast? No DC, no moisturizer, but I used my serum! My stylist had me terrified of oil so I would not put any oil in my hair:spinning:. I used serum instead every morning. Now I know Serum did not GROW my hair, but I think it helped me to retain length by really locking in any moisture (from my moisturizer and DC) I had. So lately I have gone back to this and I must say its a keeper (for me anyway!!). My hair is retaining sooo much more moisture, and I dont have tangles and knots anymore (something I have been struggling with for the past year!). My hair is so supple, I only have to moisturize every 3 days now! Dont get me wrong, I still love my oil. I still use my 2 pt tea tree 1 pt jojoba oil mix for my scalp. But um yea.....yaaay serum!
Just wanted to share!

Oh yea, please excuse the grammatical and spelling errors. I work 6 am to 11 pm on weekends and yea im a little sleepy!

You know shtow (my hair goddess, lol... :look:) I do the same thing too... We are like hair twins, **squeals in valley girl voice** OH MY GOD! I used to be on this coconut oil kick - which by the way I still like off and on. But my hair is very fine so oil really weighs down my hair after a few days. I started to seal with my Organix Coconut Milk Serum, waaaay long ago, and my hair has been great. I apply it to my hair when lightly towel dried following my dc and after I put in my leave-in. The proof is in the pudding (as in the rediculous amounts of photos in my fotki). Hair is happy.

We seem to be the antithesis of all the LHCF rules.

I'm not anti-cones (never have been).

When I get my hair done, I use cones each night before putting on my satin scarf.

I love cones (always have).

:)

ITA!

I have been using more serum lately, just small amounts, and my hair is loving it. I use some on my ends when they are wet to help prevent split ends and my hair looks great when I used just serum and water during a blow out. My curls last longer and my hair has more umph.

thanks for the info. the only time i really use serums is for a rollerset, but your way sounds like something i need to try.

btw, me and my hair love cones :)

:lachen::lachen: Geeeeez Gym, now what are you REALLY hinding from us.... A flat iron perhaps...:look:

I think we've had this discussion you and I in another thread before, about our love for cones.

What do you think I follow up the blow dryer with:look: Seriously though, I use less heat when I blowdry and flat iron than sit under a dryer.

Me LOVE cones! Viva la Dimethicone

Hmmm....

I had put down my serum, and lately I've been having trouble maintaining moisture, especially my ends. Maybe I should pick it up again.

That's the best way!

U know Roxie, I always thought we were hair twins!!! and underdogs cuz of our "bad" habits :perplexed:drunk::lachen:.All that heat and cones and your hair is gawjus!! Get em!

I think the issues with cones is that people think they moisturize -- when infact they can only seal whatever moisture you have in your hair already -- not impart moisture themselves.

I  cones - ESP while transitioning b/c they lubricate every strand and make detangling so much easier. The stuff that car oil does for your engine parts is what serum does for your hair. :yep:

very true!

 While we are at it......I love my blowdryer

***gaspss*** I use to, until I heard that it was bad for me. :perplexed Use to love my little bss only serum too. I was all over Claudio St. James perm stress reliever. I stopped because it had versagel as it's main ingredient, which is basically a mineral oil substance. Which I also heard was bad for me. I never put it on my scalp, but my hair ALWAYS had swang, I mean swang and I never had split ends. In fact, I only started to seek out hair help once I stopped using it and my hair got all jacked up. let me find out, let me find out that my hair thrives off heat, cones, mineral oil, and some blue magic grease(the coconut kind at that) lol

serum lover over here! my hair soaks up oil and it ends up looking dry or weghed down. serum is the only thing that works for me.

Bump.

I've been doing some research on cones. Some popular cones such as cyclopentasiloxane and cyclomethicone have been identified on this forum to be non water soluble. But upon a further look into their chemical profiles these cones are volatile which means they will evaporate. How long it takes to evaporate I do not know, but this is good to know for any of you LHCFers that was once a week or less frequently than that. You may not need to use sulfates. But these volatile cones are also often used to disburse the heavier less volatile and non water soluble cones like DIMETHICONE (insert scary voice) :)

I'm cool with cones, but I do not allow then in my shampoo or conditioner. I look for slip through other lighter ingredients so that it can penetrate my strands, and then I seal with a serum. Oil.... just... isn't... cutting it! So sad.

My hair products have cones in them and I love what they do for my hair. No issues with cones here.

This would be my regimen if I didn't like to baggy nightly. I don't use any other moisturizers and love love love serums. When I decided to go back to no products, I did use a serum to seal but found it to conflict with my love for baggying. Baggying a serum made no sense because it's already sealing my hair so nothing else can moisturize my hair, not even sebum. Plus baggying with anything on my hair made my scalp itch like crazy. So I had to give up serums and only use them when I straighten my hair. I don't use any moisturizer then. Just the serum.
