I haven't DC'd since I started steaming.

Is it necessary to do both?

The steamer makes my hair feel soft, but I cannot deny that MegaTek has left a strong protein impression on my hair.

Curious to hear what u ladies think.

Yodie it's that serious? I'm getting excited thinking about the possibilities! I just assembled my steamer today and I can't wait to try it. My strands are already feeling the effects of the season (dryness). I plan on steaming every 2 weeks. How often do you steam? Also do you find that it helps your scalp (itching, dryness)?

I class steam treatments as deep conditioning as effectively it is the same thing, although steam is better than using a hood dryer because the steam allows the conditioner to penetrate the shaft more easily.

If you're using MT, it is still a good idea to continue your DC treatments.

I agree with this. :yep:

I think in some ways you can do both.

When I shower (As they are ridiculously long and hot -I know, bad, I compensate with rich oils for my skin after wards) I wash my hair first and apply a conditioner, pop on a shower cap and at the end rinse. My shower cap is FULL of steam, as is my bath room. After 45 minutes of that I consider my hair "Steamed".

Same thing when I sleep in conditioner. I can actually feel the steam escape the cap in the morning (I also wear a bonnet over it and sleep with my head covered more of than not out of habit which also helps).

If I leave a shower cap on long enough to build up said steam...then sit under the hooded dryer...did I steam or DC? :ohwell: Did I steam first and then DC? :spinning: Or was I DCing all along and not steaming? :perplexed

The lines blur, me thinks.

If I were to put on conditioner, a shower cap, then hope IMMEDIATELY under the dryer for 15 minutes then rinse it out I'd call that a DC. :look:

But It I put on conditioner, a shower cap, sat under the dryer for 15 minutes then I'd say I DCed...AND THEN steamed.:lachen::lachen::lachen:

Are you suggesting I continue hooded dryer DC's? Just curios... why?

I don't have a steamer yet but I am waiting on God to release my financial breakthrough which will be manifested in short order and then I will invest in one of these as I believe my hair really needs it right now.

I usually steam on a weekly basis. My hair loves it & I've seen nothing but benefits. No itchy scalp at all.

My hair is still sometimes drier than I like. Started using WEN cleansing conditioner. That's helping.

Just curious... why don't you steam naked hair?

I prefer stea treatments to getting under the hooded dryer. My hair absorbs more moisture with the steamer vs. hooded dryer.

Last night I decided to sleep w/conditioner in my hair. I've neglected doing this for way too long. So now I'll sleep w/conditioner & still do my weekly steam treatments.

I put my DC on my hair and then go underneath my steamer.

i never steam naked hair.

I'm in agreement w/u. You'll have a steamer in no time.

Where are you ladies purchasing your steamers? Is there an online store? Thanks in advance for the responses.

I wanted a tabletop steamer that I could disassemble after use. So, I thought I would save $ by ordering one from China. Not so!! Had to buy a converter. Should've just purchased a U.S. tabletop version.

Either way, I love my steamer.

Hey there,

Do you know of any where online to purchase this? I really want a tabletop hair steamer.

I remember two on-line sites for tabletop steamers posted in one of the old steamer threads. You might have to do a search. One site listed the steamer that I brought from China and the other was a US steamer. Both were tabletop.

No if you have a steamer you should use it for your DC'ing, as it is a more effective method as opposed to the dry heat of a hood dryer.

When you sit under the steamer what do you apply to the hair?

I guess I replaced my conditioning treatments under the hooded dryer with my steamer. My hair feels better with the steamer.

I apply conditioner, no baggy and get to steamin.
