Has anyone used coconut oil in their hair?...If so, how often?

Yes, it is a staple. I usually buy mine from the health food store. It is the best oil I've used in my hair. I'll put it on after I wash. It defines my curls and gives a nice shine. I love it! If I'm wearing my hair curly, I'll use it every time I wash/cowash and that could be every other day.

I use it as she mentioned, except I do it once or twise a week.

I use it for everything!! DC, Prepoo, Sealant, in my normal conditioners, in some of my moisturizers, and I take it internally and use it on my skin:yep:

I've recently returned to my coconut oil concoction:

Coconut Oil
WGO
peppermint oil (for scent)

ETA:

And I've used this on my scalp for the past two days in a row.

Over the last three years or so I have experimented with several different oils and this is one of the few I can use without awful, crunchy results. I've also learned that a very little, tiny bit, particularly on the ends, does the trick for me. I don't need more than that. I love coconut oil.

I recently bought some organic virgin coconut cream oil from FNWL. I really like it. It's a bit expensive, but since I only use a tiny bit, it should last me a while.

If I had to choose one oil that I couldn't live without, it would be coconut oil. I use it in pre-poos', conditioners, to seal my ends, etc. I have tried both Spectrum and Parachute, and like both of them. I love the squirt bottle that Parachute comes in, because it dispenses easily in small amounts. I love Spectrum for its very light coconut smell. I even use it as a moisturizer on my feet and lips, as well as cook with it. You can use it as often as needed, it's a mild carrier oil, and mixes easily with other oils. I use it at least 3 times a week.

girrrlllll....did you ask if anyone used coconut oil on their hair???? :eek2:

the answer is a big, fat YES!!! lots and lots of ladies here use coconut oil as frequently as everyday (like me) or as infrequently as once per week.

i don't think anyone who uses it as a part of their regimen uses is more infrequent than once per week (ie once a month), though...THAT would be pointless imo.

Hi, new member here, I'm learning a lot from you guys :)

I have to say I am a huge fan of coconut oil. the type I use is edible, it's unrefined, unbleached and has a beautiful coconut smell to it. When I apply it to my body (just have actually!) my skin feels like satin.

I apply it as a pre-wash once a week. I apply some to my hair, leave it for at least an hour, if I have time overnight. Apply shampoo and wet hair. You'll have a hard time washing it out if you wet your hair first *lol* my hair is manageable, strong, soft and SO shiny. In between washes I apply a little to give hair a bit of shine and to keep in moisture on the edges when they're a bit frazzled.

I'm in the UK so I get a huge big tube from Holland and Barrets for £10. Worth every penny!

Welcome :welcome2:

OP...Yes, a lot of us use it and love it. :yep:

Coconut oil is my new favorite thing to use on my human hair half wigs. It minimizes frizz and shedding. Also it rarely tangles now.

Yes, it is a part of my daily oil/spray mixture. I also add it to my deep conditioner after I take my weaves down. I also apply it to my hair at least once a week for a few hours when I'm not wearing a weave but wear my natural hair.

Yes girl get you some coconut. Funny you ask b/c I just purchased some Indian Coconut oil, can't remember the name right now. I love to use it as a prepoo, I think it is good for your scalp if you prepoo with it as well.

Good Luck!

Staple. I mix it with olive oil and hot water, put in a old braid sheen spray bottle and spray my hair every night. I use it to pre-poo as well, and if it gets wicked cold this winter, I'll mix it with shea to do my twists for the winter...

I love it...I use it to moisturize my scalp and seal my ends! I also discovered that applying to my hair after a hot bath makes my hair feel fantastic in the morning...now that i'm 9weeks post (aka the longest i've been) it helps a lot

Thanks for this! I had no idea that H&B sold unrefined CO! I've been buying it from here. www.sheabuttercottage.co.uk, and waiting for days in the process - doh! :D

CO is gorgeous though, I'll be using it along with some other oils as a hot oil treatment tonight. :yep:

lets just say your hair doesnt like coconut oil as a sealant (i can imagine but lets just say) you still cant go wrong with mixing it in your conditioners. it does wonders.

I just mixed up a moisturizer with coconut oil, EVOO, some leftover leave-in, and an unimpressive moisturizer. I put it in a spray bottle and will be applying it to my length nightly.

:lick: Mmmm...every single day - a small bottle of the Parachute brand oil, and a bigger bottle called Surabhi from one Indian store I go to; same packaging though. It's made my hair thick, shiny, and darker :yep:

All day everyday. Coconut oil is my preferred hair oil because of it's nourishing properties. Jojoba and the others run a close second.

I use Goya (Spanish), grace (Jamaican) or Roberts (Guyanese) most often. Cheap effective and they all do double duty in my kitchen.
