You can make your own WGO knock-off, sans the smell:

mix equal parts jojoba, olive oil, and liquid soy lethicin. Adjust the amounts of the various oils to your liking.

IMO, the SOY LETHICIN is what gives the WGO its softening characteristic. Try it and see if you like it for a deep con, I've never used it for that.

OOOh thanks winterinatl !!! Never thought about making my own version of WGO.. Hmmm Soy Lecithin eh? I haven't used that before...will give it a try when I let the PJ in me out again :sekret:
Now that I have made my own Sulphur/ conditioner mixes which are proven to work, I'll try making a little WGO 'improved formula':afro: to use as a hot oil treatment.

Can you ladies believe that nearly two years after I started this thread I STILL haven't found the perfect Hot Oil treatment!!!!!...

Brownie, Lately I have been using Amla oil/Vatika Oil, and my hair seems to like it..the only thing is.. the Amla smell aint pleasant!

Sareca, what does Palm Oil do for your hair? It's really shiny :yep:

Has anyone discovered any better/new hot oil treatments?

I usually don't do hot oil treatments but after trying it using the Blended Beauty natural oil, I found my hair to be soft and moisturized. I love it. The smell is wonderful!!

Oils of sunflower, avocado, and meadowfoam seed, grapeseed with rosemary extract and soy lecithin provide deep moisturizing without clogging hair follicles. This blend has a lightweight feel and has added nutrients to keep hair healthy and growing. It can also be used as a hot oil treatment before shampooing.

8 oz

Ingredients: Sunflower oil, grapseed oil, avacado oil, meadow foam oil, rosemary extract, soy lecithin, scent.

My special blend of EVOO, Jojoba oil, essential oils (rosemary, lavendar, and peppermint), and a little Taalijah Waajid oil is my favorite.

Also, EVOO alone works great too!

I have some of this one the way and i am pumped, do you hear me:grin:

My question is,how are you ladies doing hot oil treatments with these oils. I always buy them in the little tubes of oil,and heat the tube in some hot water.

So how am i supposed to heat the oils w/o killing the nutrients?
I have so many good oils to use up this way:yep:
I have some shikikai, amla, vatika, red palm, some emu, evoo, and i am loving grapeseed oil now too! That stuff is so light that it is perfect for my hair:yep:

I have been using Vatika Oil for my hot oil treatments and sometimes Amla Plus oil.
I have been doing this twice a week - adding it to my natural twists - in a bid to help out my damaged hair. My hair is extremely soft now so this regime is a keeper for me...at last, something actually agrees with hair. :yep:

Jojoba Oil is a great hot oil treatment for the scalp.

I also do an overnight oil treatment with Vatika, Olive Oil & EOs.

My last hot oil treatment was an almond and shikakai oil mix.
But I'll also use:
Brahmi Amla Oil
Vatika Oil
Sesame Oil
Olive Oil

Evoo is evoo(evil) to my hair. I dont oil rinse with it either because it just sits on my hair and doesnt let my conditioner penetrate.

COCONUT OIL!

I have been using Amla oil as a hot oil treatment overnight...it is GREAT!!! Although my Jilbere shower comb makes detangling in the shower reaaaallly easy, the amla oil overnight treatment makes it a DREAM to comb through. The amount of slip I get with the Amla is no joke :)

I think I'm going to try Castor oil...I'd like to see if doing the hot oil treatment with Castor oil makes the hair thicker....???

Kinda OT: I wonder if doing hot oil treatments replaces oil rinsing?

I've used regular grocery store variety EVOO, Dabur Vatika Oil, Africa's Best Herbal Oil, and Dabur Amla Oil as HOT's, and have gotten best results (though I have many other oils in my stash).

Often, to get benefits from several oils, I'll mix them together and apply. I like Mahabringraj and Brahmi oils too.

Ya'll will probably laugh at me for asking this but, what the heck is a hot oil treatment exactly? I have heard of this all my lifr but I've never had one done or seen one done. Can somebody break it down?

Bumping .......

hairgirl Emu oil! I must get some, it's been a while since I used this stuff.

The ends of my Locs are very dry right now (I have naturally dry hair, + I've colored them). I'm doing a HotOil treatment that's a mixture of Honey, Alma Oil, and Magnesium Oil.....and for fun I crushed and dissoved some Biotin Tablets (600mg) in the mix.

But yes, Emu Oil; ....** note to self to purchase a bottle or two..... amost 6 years later but thanks hairgirl

Jojoba oil,Coconut oil.Ginseng Wonder 8 miracle oil ,very dramatic name but it works well makes my hair very soft.

Eta:ULTRA SHEEN Naturals has this little bottle of 100% oils and EO surprisingly good

This is a topic I'm actually really obsessed with! (I'm kindve an organic pj)
Saturated fats gets metabolized faster than unsaturated fats because of their medium chain triglycerides, and are also absorbed faster! A rule that applies to the internal and external use of medium chain tryglycerides.
Coconut oil can actually enhance the absorbability of another oil! I stumbled across the info while looking up whether or not oil treatments could give noticeable improvements to the hair!really interesting stuff
