I am still in my twenties, but I try to visualize myself older.

I always think I have crazy long (MBL) jet black natural hair.
But actually seeing these pics made me think I might not mind
having gray hair... if it could be white white and not the brownish gray

Oh and Oprah at 54 looks better than she ever did

Check out these hotties... This one is my fav. She's 57.

I'm sure I'll have a long salt and pepper french braid like my great grandmother use too. But those styles are hot!! :yep:

I love being of AA decent... we age so gracefully!

Well some of us :look:

Good thread! I'm 37 and this has been something I've been thinking about alot lately. Should I have long or short hair as I get older? And if I should let it be gray, jet black or a lighter color? I swear yall just don't know, for some reason I have been obsessing over these questions!!!!

Wow! They are all so beautiful! The second lady at 72 looks AMAZING! her body, her hair, everything is is great shape! 52 is so beautiful! She has REALLY nice skin and her hair is beautiful!

The woman that's 72 looks YOUNGER than the other women!!! Amazing!!!

This woman's hair is HOT

She's very beautiful

I doubt I would ever let myself go gray. I see little hairs now and freak out.

Hopefully my hair will be very, very long and just gorgeous.

I think she looks great, nice hair cut and she looks like she's in great shape. All of these women are inspirations and they are very lovely.

Great thread SouthernTease!
Those are some beautiful sisters with gorgeous hair.
My mom is 70 with very few gray hairs; so I'm hoping I have inherited her hair genes and wont see any gray until then.

i'm in my 30's and I think about this question, also. I don't want to wear gray hair until I'm like 70, but I dread having to dye my hair on a regular basis.

I saw these ladies when their pics were in print and was equally awed - they look fab. My mother is creeping up to fifty and I found her fist grey hair over the summer. So like pinkskates, I'm hoping to take after her. I'm thinking that I'll have great length at that time too.....although some of these ladies sure do make grey hair look stunning!

I know they say long hair ages you on all the make over shows
and magazines and what not... but I actually thing some of the
women look better with long hair... I especially think it can make
older Black women look younger if it was full, thick, and healthy.

I used to think that longer hair would age older woman too. But know that I am almost one of them, I must say that people thought I was older when I had shorter lengths. I am also salt n pepper essspeciallly in the front. Depending on how I wear it gives me that youthful edge. Now I am not trying to look like my daughter either.

Shorter hair on me commands a different presence than longer hair. Since I am no longer in a mangers role I let my hair grow out. In my industry people tend to take women more seriously with shorter hair.....perceptions... oh...well....but the photo's of these women look hot and these are very inspirational!

Wow, that first woman looks smokin' hot! :yep: Man, I hope I can look like that when I get to that age.

Hopefully I won't be gray until I'm in my mid forties like my mother. I dunno, I love my jet black hair, but I think I could rock so sexy long gray thick natural hair (I would prolly go natural when I turn 50)

I won't go grey for quite awhile thanks to my genes...but if/when I do...I don't know if I'll want to give up my naturally jet black hair and natural burgundy highlights....:perplexed

Now if I would just stop using color rinses and enjoy my color as it is I'd be fine. :wallbash:

Thanks for posting, OP!

I agree with the natural part! I could imagine myself transitioning in my 40s and having some superthick classic length grey hair with silver streaks that has been heat trained into a cute press-n-curl..... Yea i know i can dream lol:lachen:

Gorgeous women! I actually don't mind about graying. And I have never been one to follow fashion so I believe I will always do my own thing, regardless of what folks think. Since having long hair has been a lifelong dream, I doubt I will cut my hair just coz some folks believe old age and long hair don't go together. But I'll just wait to see how I feel about it. Of course, if it's not practical, I won't be killing myself with it just to have it.

Part of why I don't worry about graying is I no longer dread telling people that I'm not as young as they think I am. It's actually flattering when you don't really look your age. So as long as I look as I feel, then how my hair looks won't bother me at all. Plus I don't think I wanna look like twenty when I'm in my 50's. I do want to look good for 50. But I do also want to get the respect someone of my age deserves and hopefully appear to have the wisdom of someone who's lived that long.

As I posted before, this lady is 60 and looks fantastic with long hair that can be worn in an updo:

While this one is 77 and looks hawt in a short do:

Both are wearing their gray with pride and it's not taking away from the youthfulness they seem to still have in them. :yep:

Women in my family get white hair really early like in their 20s and so far I've been spared but I want MBL natural hair.. by then I know I'll have some gray in the front!

The most important thing about these women, is that they are confident within themselves, regardless of what they are wearing and their age. It shows! They are already at the level, alot of us are trying to get. They rock various lengths and colors with relative ease and grace. They look great!

i saw this pic in a hair mag (remind me to find it) she was a blunt, smooth salt 'n pepper apl, very sophisticated and classy lookin.
i dont think i want to deal w/ all the work of natural hair when i get older.

I agree and I will add that they all seem to have a great sense of style.

I'm 50 and I use henna and indigo (they color without harming the hair and strengthen) so you too will have options!

My hair has improved greatly using cleansers that don't strip the hair (Wen & Ovation Color Therapy Shampoo) and the color stays vibrant longer.

I will be 45 in November and I have 2 gray hairs! My hair is in great condition and I love the fact that it is growing longer.

The women in the pics are fabulous!
