How about a type 3 support thread?

Hey Girl! Welcome to your new addiction!

Hello everyone,

I'm new to LHCF and I'm glad to see this thread. I've learned a lot already reading through it. I'm natural with mostly 3c, some 4a, and even the random 3b strand. I see a few hair twins here including the knotted mega-long strand you get when a shed hair gets enmeshed with a growing hair and you have to cut it. I really thought that only happened to me :look: Curly hair is like a chameleon. It feeds my PJism because its hard to find something that works and your hair is in a different mood every day!:wallbash:

Hey, hey natural 3a/b/c checking in! One of these days, I'll post a pic. My biggest challenge is with my hair frizzing up. HELP! I've tried a lot of products, but for me the best to date that helps to control the frizz is Beyond the Zone's Noodle Head and Sexy Styling Sauce (I think that's what it's called) - and I have to use that with lots of conditioner. Even better than that is when I use a bunch of Herbal Essence's Totally Twisted conditioner and seal with Nourish and Shine (which I did today). It even dried soft, not crunchy. I have my hair contained in a pony tail, so it does ok. But when I wear my hair down, it's a whole different story.

Hey .

So, I’m experimenting with taking oil and protein out of the regimen. It seems like oil is a big factor too. It’s been about a week since I ditched products with oil (except the small amounts in Elasta QP DPR-11).
It seems to be working well. I already knew that I can’t use oil straight up, but I figured some in a leave- in is not bad. Well, this might not be the case. My hair has been less dry, stiff, and brittle since I got rid of the oil. I guess my hair doesn’t absorb it well. Anyone else eliminate oil from their regimen?
If this is the key to my moisture issues I will be so happy. *crossing my fingers that it is*.
Only thing, it’s not so easy finding hair products without oil or protein, huh?
I bought some of the Motions Weightless Detangling Conditioner and it really helped the comb glide through easily, which is not something I can do with many conditioners. It left some moisture in my hair as well.
I also tried some Skin milk facial Moisturizer in my hair b/c it’s oil free (don’t laugh). It does have some milk and another type of protein but I did this to see how much the elimination of oil alone makes a difference. I really want to try the Motions Oil free moisturizer next.

i know i have some 3c in my hair with a mix of 4a as well.

its tough because the main problem is jus frizzies. i find that with me i actually like frizz ease conditioner as a leave in. i jus tried a new process ... i wash and condish with the frizz ease then leave in... get out the shower with soaking wet hair and smooth out about 5 sections in my hand smooth it out and force it to go into a big curl.. then roll it up and pin it so it will stay ( like a pin curl) anyway i let it dry like this and it turned out for me like a braid out only with my natural curlies. which was nice since with me braid outs can make my hair look more wavy then curly.. anyway for you natural 3's out there this might be worth a try to make your hair less frizzy and more defined. :yep:

WOW, stumbled upon this thread. Outta be interesting reading as I am a 3b/c who is running to the ayurvedic side with the mantra, "More oil or bust"! I am loving butters and oils for my hair.

So, on I read to learn another perspective (while lovin' the outta my oils).

Oh yeah, the oils on my neck and back are gettin' on my nerves, but I figured I'd suffer for the sake of long, healthy, soft, wavey hair that I have. :spinning:

"Hair hating protein"

Hmm, all this talk of hair hating protein. I rushed out, and I do mean rushed to get that darn, umm, Sebastian . . . and whoooa, stop the boat. My hair was hard as heck. On another thread I was told "protein" may be the culprit. Well, I purchased two bottles of the stuff (at over $14); and it's sitting in the b-room. Figured I'd use it for co-washing, but NOT leave-in. :perplexed

Now, on the other hand Cathy Howse's deep condish has beau coup protein, and her instructions clearly state, "follow up with a leave-in"; I follow what she says and have had no prob. Sooo, I guess for me, if I use it, it needs to be followed up with somethin' else. ???

On I read and learn. Umm, its 1:57 a.m. I need to go to bed. :spinning:

Anyone use Herbal Essence Long Term Relationship Split End Protector Leave-in?
I really like this. It's lightweight and moisturizing, which I think is ideal for my type 3 hair.

No I haven't, but I do like Totally Twisted. I might give the split ends protector a try b/c I'm having major issues with my ends. You wear your hair straight, right St8? If so, what do you do to keep your hair moisturized? Thanks!

Sorry, just saw this but no, I hardly wear it staight (my name is an intentional contradiction/ play on words -straight as in "straight up"...- ah you get it).

BTW I'm still moisturizer searching. My hair did feel a little dry after using the LTR leave-in for a while (silk protein). It's too bad b/c otherwise it would have been great:sad:.
