Would you trust a salon that does $10 sets all day everyday? The reason I'm asking is one opened around the corner from me, I went in there today to inquire about their hours. I asked if I could bring my own shampoo, they said no. They said they use high end like Design Essentials and Nairobi. I can't for the life of me figure out, why they won't let me bring my own poo. Thoughts?

I'd be a little skeptical about them saying you can't bring your own products. That just doesn't make sense. I'm sure they aren't asked that much, but still :perplexed:

That doesn't make sense to me either. Can you atleast bring your own conditioner?

as for the 10$ a sets it could be a marketing strategy called price penetration...however I do understand that your skeptic if I was you try to get booked on a day that theres a lot of customers and see how they do the hair of people ahead of you. And as soon as you see something weird or smell something weird ...RUNNN 4 YA LIFE!

That's cheaper than the Dominican Salon ain't it?

Are you sure it's not

$10 for the set
$10 for a shampoo
$10 for a deep conditioner
$10 to sit under the dryer :lachen:
$10 to take the rollers out and style

Lol, that's was my first train of thought. That's why I went in today to get an idea of what was going on in there. The price list was $10 for set, $5 for deep condition, $5 for a temporary color, and relaxers $30 bucks!
My first train of thought was, they must use Suave shampoo, so I wanted to make sure to bring my quality shampoo. It seems like they would be thankful that I'm not dipping into their products. I'm going to try it anyway. I'm definately taking my Salerm. I HATE setting lotion, and I asked if they use it and they said yes.

I was trying to see the heads, but they were in a different room:lachen:
I'll know tomorrow though!

It's a great marketing idea for a new salon. Is that's name or just a advertising sign I had heard of a place that did roller set for $10.00 before
but thats all they did was roller sets and after awhile the customers got tired of the same old roller set.

The $10 sets are on the wooden sign outside. That wasn't the name of the salong though. It was something along the lines of cheap salon. The two ladies I spoke with seemed to be of Ethiopian/Etrian decent.

Let us know how it goes, Indefinite. And err uhh, if it's in the DC area and it turns great- let me know the name :sekret:

She said no, they use a good conditioner that "coats the hair nicely that their clients like". Me no likey coating of any kind, I have fine hair.

I don't like their concepts...you should be able to bring their own stuff. Keep us posted.

Lol, it's in Stone Mountain/Lithonia off Rockbridge. I forgot the name, it's something like A Cheap Salon, An inexpensive salon, something like that, I'll know for sure after I go back tomorrow.

It's not like they're gonna wash your hair with bleach and condition it with relaxer, so I'd try it. Hell I'd try it if a hobo was doing hair under the overpass for $10. Just as long as there's no chemicals or scissors involved I'm pretty sure it can't be that bad.

I'd go for you first to show you my results if it were here in Atlanta.

I had a customer ask why I charge so much to just roll hair on rollers and sit under dryer I thoght if it's so easy then why do you want me to roll it for you..:ohwell: maybe she wanted $10.:perplexed

There is a salon here in Raleigh that is a $10 salon. They do a wonderful job. I go there occasionally when I get lazy since it is right around the corner from the job. Always crowded especially on saturday mornings, they line up like mad in the parking lot at like 6am. It's $10 for a rollerset/doobie wrap. They wrap it around and pin it with bobby pins and everyone leaves looking like a conehead. It's $5 extra to comb it out. Like $25 dollars for a relaxer. Been going there for years and never an issue. Great deal and very nice people.

Cool. I feel a little better, lol. I'm going at 6 am as well. I have a ton of stuff to do tomorrow. It's brand new, so hopefully it won't be crowded.

I totally understand being paid what you are worth for your time.

I totally understand being paid what you are worth for your time. That's why I'm having a hard time understanding how in the world they are making any money, with lights, rent, products, insurance, etc.....Same thing for the Indians that do my eyebrows for $4. It's so low, I kinda feel bad, but I'd rather pay $10 than $25 at the dominicans, lol

I call it the Hair Factory. They make tons because of the volume of women passing through there in any day. By 6am on a saturday there are usually at least 75 women standing waiting to get in and they don't open till 8. It's like an assembly line. You will have many beauticians working on your hair. One does this..one does that...and it just keeps moving. If you have issues with more than one set of hands in your hair, this is not for you. You can't go in and request anyone, you get who you get. lol...by the way I always leave with bouncin and behavin hair....

Yes, there are salons like this in the Raleigh/ Durham area of NC. Like AngieB said, it's an assembly line. But, the one I went to would let you bring your own products. I even saw a woman with her own rollers. I would always take my creme of nature with me. I think you should take your own products. It's always worth a try. Good luck.

Are they all licensed?:perplexed I think I would look on the wall for a license for each one.

I was going to say the same thing. It's a great marketing concept!

ITA with Curlee. I would go too. No chemicals, No scissors. I would have a fresh roller set every darn week.

Some places will not allow you to bring your products for legal reason and/or they also don't want to use products they don't know about or dont care for. When you walk out the door, you represent them and their business. I understand this concept, but this also the reason I love my current beautician. She lets me bring whatever. Her concept is, "It's your hair and you know your hair better than I do. You do it all the time." I :love3: her!

I wish they had something like this in my area.:look: Is there enough room for me to park a truck near the salon? I may have to check it out the next time I have a load going to ATL.:yep:

I went to one in raleigh nc and it was ok for 10 dollars. I was able to bring my own product. They also do garlic steam treatments for 20. I also asked them to use only water to set my rollers. They gave me a strange look and said it wouldn't last a day. I informed the stylist that I like soft, springy curls. She was cool with that idea.

Ok, I'm sitting under the dryer now! So far, I am completely impressed! The name is "The Affordable Hair Salon". 770 469 8383.
The stylist spent a great deal of time with me discussing healthy hair care. All the employees and managers have long, long hair.
After she explained the liability aspect of bringing your own product, I understand.
She was completely nice and accomidating(sp?) When I told her I don't like setting lotion. She offered foam, but was still nice shen I declined that. It doesn't have a factory feel at all, everyone here is so nice. With the quality of service and the hardwood floors and beautiful atmosphere, I feel like I'm in a high end 100 buck salon.
While I'm typing this, someone just came by and offered me a free bagel!
I hope I'm not shooting myself in the foot by typing this, meaning so many ladies crowd it that I won't be able to get in in the future.
Ill post back with the end result, once I'm done.

Sounds great! Keep us updated! I'm serious about the parking though. Would I be able to park an 18 wheeler near the salon?

I can't wait to see your hair!

Lithonia is far out for me but might be worth it...I can totally afford a 10 dollar set every week!
