$10 Hair Salon

Would you trust a salon that does $10 sets all day everyday? The reason I'm asking is one opened around the corner from me, I went in there today to inquire about their hours. I asked if I could bring my own shampoo, they said no:perplexed. They said they use high end like Design Essentials and Nairobi. My question is, can they afford to make a profit with rock bottom prices with the same overhead as regular salons? Or do you think they are pulling the okie doke on the products, like switching out cheap shampoos in the higher end bottles. I can't for the life of me figure out, why they won't let me bring my own poo. Thoughts?

They must be switching products out...That's crazy. I wouldn't go if I were you.

I totally understand being paid what you are worth for your time. That's why I'm having a hard time understanding how in the world they are making any money, with lights, rent, products, insurance, etc.....Same thing for the Indians that do my eyebrows for $4. It's so low, I kinda feel bad, but I'd rather pay $10 than $25 at the dominicans, lol

They're probably paying their workers nothing. Another example of immigrants getting shafted wage-wise by their own...:ohwell:

Personally, it just would not sit right with me paying a woman only 10 bucks to do my hair. I hope they get bigger tips b/c of the low prices.

I call it the Hair Factory. They make tons because of the volume of women passing through there in any day. By 6am on a saturday there are usually at least 75 women standing waiting to get in and they don't open till 8. It's like an assembly line. You will have many beauticians working on your hair. One does this..one does that...and it just keeps moving. If you have issues with more than one set of hands in your hair, this is not for you. You can't go in and request anyone, you get who you get. lol...by the way I always leave with bouncin and behavin hair....

well this is exactly like the Dominican salon I used to go 15 years ago. the esact same prices. wash and set $10, $5 conditioner, $35 relaxers. My hair was always perfect. This was b4 the dominican salons became so popular. it's not a bad concept, if you don't mind standing in line, go for it!!!!!!

I'm back! My hair is soft and it's a great roller set! I'm not good at taking pics, here are some. I used the big rollers. And I blew it out a little in the last pic, I wanted to see my length since I put on my measuring shirt, lol. Next time, I'm going to try the red rollers and do the roller wrap. Will keep yall posted.

It looks gorgeous. Too bad I'm in Smyrna/Vinings and that far of a drive isn't exactly worth it for me. (I was thinking the same thing when I saw your CL posting...if I didn't work in Buckhead...)

Your hair looks great!

I"m going to be in Atlanta twice next month, I think I'm going to check this place out.

What time did you go and how long did it take before you were out the door?

I went around 8:30 and was immediately shampoo'd and rolled. It was about an hour fifteen-twenty minutes. I sat under the dryer an hour.

Very nice results :yep:! Dominican salons used to charge the same price Mons-Weds in NY and the results were great too. If I owned a salon, I would use this strategy as well.

Thanks for sharing Indefinite!

I went to a place like this once.....i washed, deep conditioned and saturated my hair with salerm 21 and put a plastic bag on my head and went in a told them that I just wanted my hair rolled and set.

They looked at me like I was crazy, but they did as I ask.

Perhaps they're targeting volume. With the economy these days, they know many will be foregoing professional haircare. But with a marketing scheme like this, even if a woman's budget is smaller nowadays, she can still maintain regular visits.... if its merely $10.

If they do enough heads daily, they are probably making a decent profit. I am curious to know what your experience is.

Here's my review from earlier :)

Ok, I'm sitting under the dryer now! So far, I am completely impressed! The name is "The Affordable Hair Salon". 770 469 8383.
The stylist spent a great deal of time with me discussing healthy hair care. All the employees and managers have long, long hair.
After she explained the liability aspect of bringing your own product, I understand.
She was completely nice and accomidating(sp?) When I told her I don't like setting lotion. She offered foam, but was still nice shen I declined that. It doesn't have a factory feel at all, everyone here is so nice. With the quality of service and the hardwood floors and beautiful atmosphere, I feel like I'm in a high end 100 buck salon.
While I'm typing this, someone just came by and offered me a free bagel!
I hope I'm not shooting myself in the foot by typing this, meaning so many ladies crowd it that I won't be able to get in in the future.
Ill post back with the end result, once I'm done.

Though I was a naysayer about you going, your hair came out very nice. :)

Awww indefinite,i'm jealous:sad: I wish i could find that around here.I'd be giving 100% tips:lachen:

Your hair looks pretty:yep:

Believe me, they make their money. There are plenty of $10 doobie spots here in NJ. I have gotten rollersets for as low as $8:grin:. They certainly get enough people to make the money they need in no time. Also $10 may be the base price. They probably charge more for longer hair, more if you want it styled, they charge for the pins if you dont bring your own, etc.

Plenty of places do $10 rollersets!
Well...see what ASSuptions will do. :lachen:
You almost missed out on a healthy, pretty, bouncy rollerset!

Almost makes me wish I was relaxed so I can go. I know they wont be doing no thick head of natural hair for $10. :lachen:

:ohwell:Well..went off to the $10 salon in Raleigh this am. Closed!! Gone!! Bummed! I was so looking forward to letting somebody else do my hair. Oh well..off to the sink.
