I went ahead and got a trim, blowdry and flatiron at Visible Changes on Saturday. I was really nervous because I didn't want them to take off too much, but the stylist really listened. I think she only took off 1/2.

My appointment was really funny though because I don't think the stylist ever dealt with natural AA texture hair. She commented a few times about how 'pretty' my curls were, and how much hair I had since it was so thick. She even told the stylist next to her to check out my short it is before she blew it out, which was ear length, compared to when she straightened it. lol I thought that was so funny because they were so surprised. I felt like a side show circus freak. Everyone was staring at me. She went to the front, and came back with a lower level stylist to finish blow drying my hair. I guess she didn't think it would take 30 mins to only blow dry a little piece in the back. :lachen:

Anyway the other stylist immediately knew that she had to use a wide tooth comb, and she took her time combing through because using the dryer and roundbrush. It took about 1 1/2 to blow dry my hair. When I was finally through with the flat iron and trim, I was satisfied but I still didn't have that Michelle Obama swang. I guess my hair just can't get that way without a relaxer. It was straight, but not straight and sleek. I love the trim anyway. I still have about 2-3" to get to BSL.

Here are the pics. I'll post more in my fotki.

This is what they had to work with. Trust me for some reason it was not soft. I've been cowashing almost daily, but it's still not soft.

Took these pics after I curled the ends

Don't know why the top is so sleek, but the ends aren't as straight. The frigging flatiron doesn't even straighten it all the way. Or, is it possible that as soon as it's straightened it starts to revert?

I'm still a little past APL but not yet BSL

UPDATE

Thanks everyone!!!!! I'm so happy that it turned out okay because I was really worried that my hair had thinned out some because I've been experiencing A LOT of shedding...handfuls and handfuls worth! I posted the thread below with a pic of how it looked and after getting such positive feedback I decided that I should get a trim.

Wow, you hair is beautiful! Very healthy too.:yep:

How were your ends after a year and a half?

Thank you! It was pretty uneven and had a lot of split ends. I think I still have some splits, but oh well. It wasn't as bad as it could have been.

OMG. I love your hair. It is absolutely beautiful! You make me wanna go natural.

Thanks! It's funny that you say that because I've really been thinking about relaxing. I love straight hair and I'm tired of it not being straight. I don't like that I can't wash my hair for week because it'll kink back up. :nono: I'll feel so bad if I relax though because my family will be so disappointed. Grown or not I don't want to hear their comments.

your hair is absolutely gorgeous!! so nice and healthy..now if only i could find a stylist to trim me n not leave me baldheaded..

so thick and lush!!!

w/ the right products and techniques your hair can be natural AND straight. before you decide to go back to chemicals, try some things out. :)

beautiful hair!!!
